Hey, how come Arlong has Bounty on his head when he is one of the Warlords?
Arlong?

Arlong is not a 7 Armed Seas member…..
Where'd you get that idea?

**Arlong is not and never was a schichbukai….......
**
-
Never mind, there was a translation error in the Viz Manga I think, it said Arlong was Jimbei's equal & was a god pirate instead of "& is Jimbei's equal, qho is one of the god pirates".
EDIT: Wait, how come Nezumi gives Arlong money then? >_>

This post is deleted!

Arlong gives Nezumi money because he knows that will keep his bounty low. Since Nezumi is a greedy bastard.

True, but bounty still wouldn't have gone up to schichbukai level.
-
Maybe, maybe not. I think all Merman come close to qualifying as God Pirates once they get to a certain age and maybe train enough.

I don't think any more merman than humans qualify for that. remember all those gygon in arlong's crew? they weren't even close.
-
Well, yes. They were all killed by a heavily enjured Zolo. But I think Arlong over-estimated them (easy since they're Merman) and most of them were probably a bit young and untrained.
-
They were all at least somewhere in their 20s. And you kinda understimate the Shichibukai if you think anyone under Arlong could be one.
-
Well, what is the criteria for a Shickabuchai.
-They have to be good
-They have to be willing to sell out to the WG.I'd expect, depending on circumstances, there might be willingness to be lax on the first criteria when expedient.
I'd be surprised if they're the only privateers out there. I could see where it might be easier for a crooked/lazy Marine captain to just go around convincing local pirates to sail under the WG's flag, so he can report to his superiors "Okay, pirate situation addressed!"

Wait, I hought Nezumi gave Arlong the money.
-
Nope, it was the other way around. For the reasons I stated. Nezumi is far from being the kind of person to give ANYBODY any sort money, especially if that person has a bounty on their head, much less the biggest in East Blue. Greedy bastards like him would never do that sort of thing.
-
Oh, ok, gee I was so confuzelled >_>''''
-
And by the way.
Not merman. Fishman. And yes, they are different things in OP.
-
No, it's Merman. Fishman just sounds lame. Who came up with that Fishman crap, anyway?
-
ODA DID.
They are different.
Lets check the ol SBS.
Question: In the Cover Page Stories, there are "Camie the Mermaid" and "Octopako the Fishwoman". How are the races of mermaids and fish(wo)men
related?Oda's Answer: As you can see here, the ones with the bottom half of a fish are "mermaids". The ones with fish-like upper halves are "fishmen". To
illustrate the difference with an octopus, look to the right. (Octopus Fishman, Octopus Merman)
The difference in their natures is that mermaids try to be friends with other fish, while the fishmen try to rule the fish.
That's about right. Of course, their habitats are different too. Well, you'll be able to see if they ever appear in the story
again.Even Viz translated it that way. Only the dub overlooked this.

um, Rama, He did give arlong some money…....
-
Also, Arlong's name was probably only known in the East Blue, and with such a low bounty, he wouldn't pose much of a threat or intimidate pirates, so he couldn't be a shichibukai
Fishman makes more sense imo, usually we see merpeople with those fishlike bottom halves.
-
Oh, Ok. I thought Kaizoku Fansubs overlooked it, too. Sorry.
-
The difference is in the Japanese, too – 人魚 ningyo means "merman" or "mermaid," while 魚人 gyojin (the same two kanji in reverse order) is Oda's word translated as "fish-man."
That concludes your Japanese One Piece lesson for today.
-
If they are the same kanjis but reversed shouldn't that be ningyo/gyonin or jingyo/gyojin?
-

Well, he laid low for several years after getting to Cocoyashi. If he started his plan, he'd definitely have a higher bounty.
And Fishman is the correct term, I think, since Oda specifically made a designation. KF also does Mermen, but that's alright, since they most likely did that arc before we knew any better.
