      Hi APForums,

I have been a member here for quite a while although I am not really that active here. I'm surely here around "Spoiler posting days".

I'm not sure if people here would be interested in a retro-style of game using 8-bit sprites especially in this age of everything hi-res graphics games, but I would like to share a game I have been planning and making for more than a year now. This game only covers East Blue saga, but if I ever choose to continue, I would plan to eventually reach up to current arc (Dressrosa) by releasing a version per story saga (1 version update each for East Blue, Arabasta, Skypiea, CP9, Pirate Summit, Pirate Alliance).

Here is a simple trailer I made:

After asking a staff (CCC) via PM and reading the rules, I realized I can't put any site links here as it would be advertising. So I'll put the download link directly here.

      http://www.mediafire.com/download/xn0kd8bk7pks10m/OPSAv1.0.zip

I haven't tested this in other computers but I think some of the main requirements (actually not technically required) are:
      1. WebGL (for palettes of minions and also for game performance)
      2. DirectX Web (for game performance)

Those 2 above are "needed" to make the game be at its best performance-wise and visual-wise.

When you run the game file, it will make a folder called "locales" but it won't do/save anything and you can delete that folder after it gets made each time it exists. The game saves and high score are not saved by creating new files.

If anyone here is interested, tries it and has questions, feel free to ask. Thank you.

Were you making this on McLeod Gaming Forums a couple years back? Also, those aren't 8-bit, but the game looks pretty promising.

I know that site and I have an account there, but I'm pretty sure I only made an account there to talk to someone I was trying to find in many sites. As far as I can remember, I never posted in that forums. The "couple of years back" part of your post is true though (if I go back to 2013 when I first had thoughts of making a game like this). Might you have mistaken me for someone else? Or are you someone I know from other sites?

About the "8-bit" part, I always thought that refers to all sprites. Ok. My bad. Thanks for responding here. Much appreciated.

              and

Hi, first of all, thanks for trying to play my game. I read your post earlier today (about 12 hours before this post was made) and during my free time today, I did some checking.

About the virus scan results, I think it's a false positive. I scanned the game file using another online scanner https://www.metascan-online.com/en/scanresult/file/0267e3547998404a99705e5ec6c9e3ef

I don't know if this will help alleviate virus-related fears, but I made a video recording of me scanning the game and opening it (and also confirming that the folder "locales" has no files whatsoever inside

In the video above, I used 2 scanners (AVG and Malwarebytes) to scan the game. Then I opened the game, locales folder was created, I close the game, then opened the locales folder and confirmed that there's no files inside.

As for the other error message
              http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914232

              Error code 0x80004005

This problem may occur if a file that the Windows Product Activation (WPA) requires is damaged or missing. This behavior occurs if one or both of the following conditions are true:

              • A third-party backup utility or an antivirus program interferes with the installation of Windows XP.
              • A file that WPA requires is manually modified.

So it's the Avast antivirus that is both warning you (via the small pop-up in right corner) and preventing you from opening the game file. From the online virus scans, Avast also did not detect any virus. I think those 3 and 4 scanners out of all the 57 scanners that detected viruses were false positives because the game was packed and it thinks of it as a virus.

Nevertheless, I will perfectly understand if you won't try it anymore. Thanks for reporting the situation.

edit: new link in first post (it should fix the palettes and performance issues)
