Shueisha announced One Piece Volume 77 will be on sale 3rd April 2015.
Volume 77 Predictions/Discussion
-
-
I think we can all agree on Rocinante and kid Law being on the cover of this
I'm leaning towards "The trigger on that day" (ch 768) being the title of this volume.
covering chapters 764-774
-
just hoping for a Doflamingo crew cover
-
I'm partial to "Smile".
-
I think it's a safe bet we're getting the Don Quixote themed cover this time around, possibly still including Rocinante and Law to in some way contrast the rest of the crew. The safe bet for colours would be pink and/or purple, but I think there's a chance we'll get a white one in reference to the lead poisoning.
I'd like to say chapters 764 to 774, but 774 was just published in the magazine literally today. Has a volume ever been announced so soon after the last chapter in it has been published before? It seems too soon to me, but 774 is a much better place to conclude a volume than 773.
I'm betting 'The Trigger That Day' as the title, with 'Smile' a close second. 'Cora' may yet come through though, especially if Oda is planning a cover that features him prominently.
-
Vergo wasn't featured in any cover during Punk Hazard, so I guess this is his last chance.
-
I'm betting on the complete Donquixote family of the flashback on this cover.
Just a crowded cover with Doflamingo Rocinante and Law in front and the rest of the family in the back.
Vergo will be allowed a little space to show off his weard hearstyle from the flashback. -

It's gonna be great contentwise. See you in 2023, English edition?
-
I can envision Doflamingo and Rocinante back to back, some of the Doffy pirates with Doflamingo on his side, maybe some Marines on Rocinante's side, Vergo in the background at the back with his back to us and Law at the front, either with his grenades or crying, Doffy with a frown and Roccy with a smile.

Actually they're doing quite good, heard they're in the 60's (I own a few)

Viz is up to 73 actually (but they're on a ~9 month delay).

AH. Freakin solid, I forgot how far they were, I just knew they were at a pretty decent pace… and they're starting to 'slowly catch up' anime wise have Funi, they're already finished Thriller Bark.
[/stares intently at them]
dO NOT FUCK UP THE SUPERNOVA
ESPECIALLY LAW
ISTGalso still amused at Moriah being voiced by someone who was an abridged voice actor… HIS LAUGH IS PERFECT
-
We get the current volume no 74 in end of April :3~
-
I think the cover will be the flashback version of Doflamingo's crew
-
I think that this will be a luffyless cover, just Vergo, Rocinante, Law and Doffy.
-

More than half of the volume is focused on present time.
In fact, only 4 chapters of the flashback will get in, with 6-7 present time chapters.
-
A thought: the new cover could mirror volume 76's, with villains instead of heroes. The villain cover's always come first in the past, but why not change it up a bit? Maybe with Doflamingo and Rocinante in Luffy and Law's place in the middle.

April 7th instead of May 5th
Hoping that B&N still have a sale by then and you could get a third volume free when you buy any 2 by VIZ -

Neat idea. This is really the last and best chance for the Family to get a cover and boy do they deserve it. I'd expect a cooler color palette with more emphasis on blue to contrast the previous volume.
The number of characters is almost identical. 10 characters + Farule in addition to the center two in 76 and 11 currently active bad members of the Donquixote family.
-
I think that Corazon is more important than the agents, who were sprinkled around before.
-

Again, the problem is that the volume only has 4 chapters of the flashback, so only having flashback characters won't work.
-
There's no hard rule for covers, and while this flashback was short and weirdly placed volume wise, is more interesting that having all the officers on the same cover, specialy considering that only Jora, Delinger, Machvise, LaoG and Gladius are left to be shown, and this is Corazon and Vergo's last chance ever. They could show up in vol78, unless there's a crazy twist during the next 5-8 chapters that deserves to be on the cover, specialy if the officer fights manage to be over a chapter a piece, so it's the "vs comanders" volume and leave "vs mingo" as 79.
Cricket is another character that got shafted in the volume covers.
-
About the idea of looking similar to 76, I would actually prefer if it's Law and Rocinante at the center.
-
I'm with Dexter, I would make Volume 77's cover be flashback-centered and 78's officer-centered.

Those 5 are all going to be taken down at 77. By the time 78 happens, only Pink and the 3 commanders will be up, and Pink, Trébol and Pica have all been shown in the cover before, leaving Diamante as the only new cover character.
I mean, look at the chapters 77 will cover:
- 764. White Monster
- 765. The Island of Fate: Minion
- 766. Smile
- 767. Cora-san
- 768. The Trigger on That Day
- 769. Pirate Bellamy
- 770. The Spear of Elbaf
- 771. Happo Navy Don Sai
- 772. Cabbage & Lomeo
- 773. Half and Half
- 774. Leo, the Tontatta Troop Leader
I certainly don't think a flashback-centered cover will work if it only represents 4/11 of the chapters.
Also, all officers were present in the above chapters. And it's not like they can't have Corazon in there anyway.
-
I don't think chapter 744 belongs to this volume.
-

I think you mean 764? If so, 763 was the last chapter of Volume 76.
-

Sorry, I meant 774. I think this volume will have 10 chapters.
-
I agree that chapter 774 should be in volume 78, since it focuses on Mansherry, and the chapter after that has some other infos about her power. Splitting it into two separate volumes wouldn't be the smartest choice, since in volume 78 its possible to get even more stuff concerning her so it should stay focused on that. It would also mean that volume 78 would come out some weeks earlier

Hmm I just had a brainwave. How about if the cover is officer centred with their flashback appearances including all of them (even Vergo, but no Monet) and Law.
It explains the chapters contents better sorta. It's either that or we have the flashback as the main centre image and the officers and gladiators involved in the background perhaps?
-
Volume 77 will have 232 pages. We knows One Piece lately got a little pages, so maybe it will contain 12 chapter (764-775)
-
775 is a pretty nice cut off. differentiates between the officer fights and the executive fights.
-

this pretty much sums it up, next is gonna be good.
-
232 pages is a huge volume. Biggest since volume 69. Going off my saved files, chapters 764 - 775 is about right as page counts go. 220 pages including blank ones next to each title page for SBS's and the like. Add the recaps at the front and Usopp's gallery and merchandise advertising at the back and we have our volume. With this, volume 77's looking like it could become one of the strongest of the Pirate Alliance Saga.
Weird how the release date was announced before all the chapters were even published though. Is there a precedent for that?
-
Yeah, officer-centered cover.
-
Looks like this'll be a pretty damn complete volume.
-
Having the end of Law's flashback and both Baby 5 and Senor Pink's backstory all in one volume is really an overkill (in a good way, i loved all of these so much)
-
-
Confirmed or just hoping? (I´m really hoping it)
Hoping, but very confident thanks to it ending on Pink's chapter.

To RussianWith Love?

@Medical:
To RussianWith Love?
Yes, we already fixed that it's Russian
-

To RussianWith Love?
Yup, that's what Viz went with.
I mean I guess I see where it comes from. Remember that the initial spoilers for that chapter it was speculated the title was a play on the name of the Bond movie, From Russia With Love, and given the thing with Ls and Rs in Japanese, it doesn't strike me as an incorrect translation. However it is a very awkward translation, just because Russian simply doesn't work as a given name in English. Usually Viz trumps the scanlated versions for quality every time, but in this case I wish they'd been a bit more liberal with their adaptation.
-
The movie and the drink. It's perfect as Russian.

It isn't just the movie title though. Her name comes from ホワイト・ルシアン(White Russian), while her son is also named after a cocktail. Add to that the fact that there are several instances in the chapter where Pink and Franky mention getting drinks at a bar and it seems pretty obvious what Oda was going for. Whether or not Russian is an actual name is irrelevant, especially since I know there have been instances in manga/anime where characters have names which people in real life probably wouldn't.

You should've seen the swedish translations. They decided to translate almost all of the names, and it was the most awkward thing. Skorsten (Chimney) and Fältsnäppa (Tashigi) were among the stranger.
In the end I kinda liked it though, it had a certain charm to it. -

Oh, good catch. I hadn't known the Japanese for her name before, and I'd completely missed that Gimlet was a type of cocktail, so that makes a lot more sense now.
