Splatoon

Gimme now.

Nintendo's not messing around.
Glad the Barrier and Kraken aren't totally gone, just turned into defense up and hamster ball. That bubble special looked interesting. And that sweet sweet super jump dodge! Ah, a new charger and roller. Burn them Nintendo.
So, are teams of three fighting other three player teams or is someone joining them? Didn't understand that part. That cluster blaster looks good. Not sure if that or the umbrella is my favorite new weapon. The horde mode looks good. Doubt I'm getting a Switch anytime soon but I'm gonna be all over twitch watching players.
If they fix the lag issues from the first game Splatoon 2 will be unstoppable. -
I'm not sure how a close-range rapid blaster will work but the umbrella looks way too damn fun. I'm very interested in the gear ability that's essentially Point Sensor as well as the Jump Roll, since I think both will be huge buffs. I wonder if you can have multiple abilities of that kind at once, and whether it's in addition to other main abilities (they did a poor job explaining how gear rolling/infusing works).
-
I want the umbrella so bad. It looks like a shotgun weapon with added shield and push mechanics. Also love the ink armor and bubble blower specials, the latter particularly since it's such a threat and could probably control space much better and for longer than other specials.
-
The only thing that matters to me is that Dodge Rolling with the dualies.
I want it so much.
-
I await the Marina Amiibo.

I refuse to lose to Anime!

Uhh okay.
Anyway I participated in the Splatfest. Really disappointed they made no effort to reward people who played with basic rewards in the full game. But ah well, it was fun. I'm definitely still not used to using the map efficiently. And super jumping is kind of frustrating because it's hard for me to tell when I've respawned when I have the map up and am trying to select people to jump to. Been playing with a pro controller though, and it works pretty well, though I still have to get used to aiming more precisely. I felt I had to crank the sensitivity up to max, which is weird since I never went anywhere near that in the first game.
Anyway as for weapons I have to say I had the most fun with the Roller. I love the fact that I was able to outrange every allowed weapon in the demo aside from the charger, and generally just felt so mobile and solid with the special. Tentatek was fine I guess; still can't use the Inkjet very well though. I don't like the Dualies as much as I thought I would. Their range is so miserable and I just had a really hard time coming out on top in 1-v-1's. The dodge is kind of nice (when you don't do it accidentally lol), but it seemed of limited use, particularly since it's so hard to get/stay in range to begin with; I guess maybe with practice that will change though. I used the charger the least, especially with my aim needing work and me never having gotten particularly good with them, but it felt fine.
I did constantly feel like I was running out of ink though, with every weapon. I don't know if it's the lack of gear abilities or what, but that was rough. Especially with some of the subs using a ton of ink. And I also felt really slow, but again maybe I'm just used to those speed abilities.
Oh and what the hell is wrong with the results screen? What were they thinking by stripping away the most useful data such as number of deaths and amount of turf inked?

I guess it's that time again?

Played up to level 4 (for some sweet gear), but I also played a level of Hero Mode and tried out Salmon Run. Luckily it doesn't seem like I'm rusty, although some matches i got smoked :)
Pearl and Marina ain't no Callie and Marie, but they're growing on me.
-
You can't be rusty if you never had skill to begin with :ninja:
-
Mayo all the way. Ketchup tastes bleh.

Just finished the single player.
Level design is amazing, the challenge is ACTUALLY THERE, and the bosses.
Oh maaaan, that final boss. Won't say more I guess, now to level up a bit so I can actually buy weapons and do things.
-
Definitely gonna shoot for all of the Scrolls this time.
-
It's going to take longer in this game. In the first one I got most while doing my first single player run. This time I missed most while doing so.
My main appeal at the moment is blitzing the stages with weapons I like.

Second stage I found it on the first try, but the first and third I had to play through it again. ….I don't expect it get any easier XD
-
Just made it to 155 Pay Grade.
This is where dreams go to die.
-
I really like the dualies (and the dodge roll <3) but dang, not really a fan of the sub weapon.

Tried Salmon Run for the first time today, and thought it was insanely fun. Now if only the devs had the common sense to let us play it whenever we want :pouty:

Technically, you can. You just need a group of friends locally.

True, but that's still incredibly inconvenient. But then again, this is the same game that doesn't guarantee that you're going to be on your friends team if you try to go online together, or have bots to replace people who DC. Don't get me wrong, I really love the game, but's a real shame that the devs don't seem to understand simple stuff like this.
-
I know, I agree. Don't forget the whole inability to play splatfest with friends unless you have four people, that one also grinds my gears. Or the whole thing where Splatnet 2 and voice chat are locked behind a phone app.
It's just one of those cases where for some reason Nintendo continues to be mindbogglingly stupid about online services.

So someone found a glitch that allows you to obtain infinite meal tickets for the food truck. All you have to do is warp to the entry point for level 6 in Octo Valley, smash the box in front of you, and hop down to the ledge below where there's another box with a 1.5x exp ticket inside, which respawns once you go back to Inkopolis. The ticket becomes gray once you collect it for the first time, but it still counts for some reason, which is why I have like 65 of 'em right now
Apparently there's a money ticket you can do this for that's near level 27, but I have yet to get that far myself. I was planning on taking my time with the single player, but I might have to speed things up considering that Nintendo will probably patch this out soon.
-
might want to go do that myself
Finally cracked level 10 for ranked battles, although my quest to find my preferred weapon continues. Now I'm giving the Splatshot Pro a chance after the NES Zapper.
Endgame: to find a red-theme outfit :ninja: -

Thanks for the tip!
And yea, right in front of 27 there's a box you bounce-jump to and it does give you the cash ticket. Currently harvesting both =3edit: 83 of cash and 87 of exp now =3

I haven't yet played or bought splatoon but I had to get those two new controllers. They are so nice.
The joy cons arrived today!
-
I only ended up with around 60 of each ticket type before I updated my game to play online. Haven't used them yet though; maybe next time I play ranked. I can't wait to break out of ranks where matches feel like RNG due to how half the players are legit clueless noobs and the other half are probably people like me trying to level up to where they should be. I hate that I can get 32 kills in a match and still lose it because I literally have to do ALL the work. I'm currently B in all 3 ranked modes and it still feels like shit. And I don't know what the hell the game's algorithm is for skipping ranks because I got skipped from C- to B- directly in one mode but in the other two it made me climb rank by rank.
-
As fun as Salmon Run is, it's infuriating when you lose because your teammates refuse to cooperate.
In the most recent session, I had three separate rounds with the nighttime Cohawk rush, and in all three rounds, I was the only one who actually knew how to use the cannons. Then there's the fact that I rarely ever see anyone besides me try and shoot down the Drizzler's missiles, which have gotten my killed plenty of times, and then no one else seems to get that all you have to do for a Glowfly round is situate your team around a choke point instead of running around aimlessly.
-
Salmon Run is really fun but I'm not sure I would do it alone (I've always played with one or more friends). Even with 2 competent, coordinated people it can all be lost to others' inexperience. Still, we always win a lot more than we lose. At least so far. I don't know how hard it gets the more you rank up.
-
unless I actually am playing the game with people I know, I find it hard to really expect anyone else in the team to have an ounce of strategy. Goes for both ranked and salmon run.
It's particularly mindboggling to me when I see people with the heavy splatling rushing into the middle of an enemy swarm in salmon run.
-
Haven't done Salmon run yet, but really want to.
Overall I'm loving this game. I don't know if it's balanced better or if I'm just marginally better now, but I feel like I'm picking things up quicker and getting better at a faster pace than in the original.
… Or maybe I just suck and am overestimating my skill lol.

I find Salmon Run very addicting, I think I like it more than the rest of the game honestly. But boy, does it get tough.
-
I can not stand Flyfishes.
They exist purely to fuck my day up.
-
I think I updated the level six trick out? I'm not seeing any ledges with the ticket.

This was fixed in the latest patch.

snaps fingers My fault for waiting to do it then.
Meanwhile I forgot I'm horrible at Tower Control D: -
Well the splatfest lasts for ~6 more hours, but I played for a good amount, went from Mayo Fan(girl) to Mayo Champion. 70% of the matches my team lost lol.
I switched to Dualies because I hated the Rain sub-weapon on my previous weapon, and while the "be a sitting duck while you aim missiles" sub-weapon has made me die for being careless, it's made me more alert of my surroundings.Dodge roll <3
-
if you lost 70% of your matches I kinda wish you had gone Ketchup <_<
-

The match making is a cruel mistress. Once it was me (~11) and those around the same level or lower, versus a team of 20+ people. Hell, someone was once level 28 I think?
Losses aside, I had the most fun on the Shifty Station map.
-
It tries to calculate your Splatfest Power by how well you do in the first 7 matches. So in theory the teams should be about equal. Level doesn't matter that much anyway… there are plenty of really terrible players at level 30+. But even with the basically-RNG matches at low power ratings, a 70% loss rate is statistically really unlikely just based on team composition lol.
What's your rating, out of curiosity? I think when I got Queen and stopped playing I was at 2134.
-
It's probably supposed to find matches based on splatfest power, but since it's likely infinitely more people picked ketchup because of Marina, then the matchmaking just struggled in the first place to get Mayo teams for Ketchup people, resulting in highly lopsided matches of nonsense.
I do recall having multiple matches where a team was set to lose due to having a level 4 or level 6 player that would just walk around with a roller like a dumbass.
Then you also have the problem of all the good people who have been sticking to ranked instead of turf war suddenly invaded the domain of the turf war people…
My favorite was when I would get teams of aerospray noobs and it dawns on them that they painted their spawn early in the match and after that they can't build up special if we just kill them at their spawn. -
Connection was fine for the most part, but I distinctly recall one instance where one person on the opposite team was disconnected, so us 4 vs. them 3 won pretty handily….then the opposite happened towards the end of my run XD
-
By the way, Mayo won in Japan.

I'm just gonna leave this hereI bought the switch because of splatoon 2. And because of the whole mess the online is, I stopped playing it. At least, mario kart is fun otherwise, I would have soled it.

I constantly go back and forth on whether this game unfairly screws me more or less than Splatoon 1. My opinion of the moment is that the really bad matches are worse, but the average match is better. But who knows. I'll see how the salt goes from here on out, since I just hit S in all 3 modes.
