Do we have any release date for the next colored volumens?

Do we have any release date for the next colored volumens?
I've been doing pretty regular checks of Amazon and Booklive and there's still no listings for anything new. Probably not gonna happen in the early May release window at this point. Really hoping they give us at least three at once when they do drop. The wait's been killing me.
-
Oi Captain M, nice to see you online.
-
Feels good to be back! Was starting to think the forum was dead forever.
And hey since it's come up in this thread before, there's a new torrent up from aKraa with black and white digital rips of every single volume. Most of them are newer rips with all the SBS, UGP and other extra pages intact and in proper HD, which is great for anyone looking to properly round out their archive and catch the bits missing from the earlier rips. (also proper digital rips of the early black and white volumes, after being stuck with nothing but physical scans for so long) The volumes still missing HD extras are 41 - 45 and 47 - 68. Something fun to go track down if y'all haven't seen it yet.
-
I posted this just about three months ago on discord but apparently no one saw. I need feedback or else I’m staying retired.
This is a Mega link to my proper upscale to volume 45 in Japanese, I hope you guys enjoy.

I need someone to download akraa’a torrent and reupload it to somewhere where I can download it from an iPhone…

Edit: Thank you so much, discord user Dante! I have no idea if Akraa’s torrent is better than the collection I’ve gathered… I really hope it’s got everything that’s missing. -

Thank you once again.
I quite like the screentone included were you able to find a more efficient way in adding them compared to what you could do to the previous volumes?
Also scale wise Is this Volume the same dimensions and DPI like the rest of the HD versions? -
This post is deleted!
-
For that last question, yes it’s the same dimensions as my previous uploads except I went through the effort of separating all the double pages that weren’t meant to be double pages. I’m going to explain every detail over on my discord channel- which I plan on using more frequently now.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Very lazily put, the screentones look the way they do because this time I did the whole upscaling thing on my iPhone. I don’t have a computer.

So if you decide to get new equipment will you continue to Re-upscale this volume as well as future volumes to match with the quality of the original HD volumes? What can we do as fans to help/support the project? Since I know how laborous and time intensive it can be.

Mookins, I wanted to let you know that I left a couple updates on my discord server and they should satisfy your questions.

[This is a copy-paste from my discord server, along with some paraphrasing.]
I checked out akraa’s torrent; all the edges of the lineart look funky after being upscaled.
Every page appears to have been already cleaned of jpeg artifacts… (Not 100%, more like 95% removal)
My version of waifu2x seems to like using pure raws straight from the source; basically I’d like raws that haven’t been played with beforehand. I’d rather clean them myself cause I do that anyway before upscaling.
Right now I have an excellent source that already meets my expectations collected on my phone. (It’s fast and I’ve got tons of storage) As I go along I’ll make a list of volumes that’ll most likely need to be rebought. -
If you use Telegram and need something, let me know. Ganbatte, lil_kami42!

Due to these hard times, I’ve decided to retire indefinitely for my own mental health. I pass the torch to anyone willing; I give you permission to follow my footsteps and guidelines as long as you shoot me a pm. I already posted a long detailed list of instructions for the iOS waifu2x app on my discord server, which you can join with this permanent invite link so we can discuss stuff.

Just came here to post the same thing as Greenness. I'll embed the image to save a click.
Fingers crossed the next few volumes are coming soon, especially with the next black and white volume probably getting pushed back a little to compensate for the extra breaks. It's been so long.

Today marks 11 months since the last set of colour releases. Let's see if it ends up being only a year between volumes.
It wouldn't be so bad if they could just be consistent. Three colour volumes every August would be something to look forward to rather than sitting here hoping the line hasn't been cancelled or something dumb like that.

*10 months, but that's still longer than I thought it had been; didn't realize so much time had passed. If nothing happens by August, I'm going to be pretty bummed. Agreed, some consistency would be nice. That pic you embedded of Katakuri from the staff Twitter account was beautiful. If only the actual volumes were that high res… I still love what we get though.

The social media pics and Vivre Card art from unreleased volumes is reassuring, but it's hard not to worry for the future when there's no news at all for so long. A Japanese ebook site with actual size pages would be a dream come true. Even the raw monochrome release is so small compared to what the English volumes get on Comixology and wherever. It must just be a Japanese thing that they still aren't invested enough in digital to think it's worth uploading the volumes at such large sizes. And physical release or an official English release would be on another level entirely.
-
I had a look around at the other series going under Shueisha's digitally coloured imprint on Booklive.jp to see were there was movement recently. In April, they released 15 volumes of Shokugeki no Soma/Food Wars, presumably in a push to get the colour release caught up with the ending before the hype totally disappears. The delays could be due to the work on that. There's six volumes left to go in the series before it's up to date.
At a quick scan through the listings, the only ongoing Jump series with colour versions seem to be One Piece, Jojo and Hunter X Hunter. HxH moves at such a glacial pace that the colour release is only two volumes behind. Jojo hasn't had a colour release update in 11 months and is six volumes behind, and One Piece has been waiting 10 months and is 10 volumes behind. The good news here is that colour releases are still coming out and that there's not a lot left to distract from One Piece unless they start on a new series. I think the main candidates for a new series would be Kimetsu (obviously), Hero Aca, Promised Neverland or Assassination classroom. I don't think there's much else that has the sales or cultural staying power to be worth the effort, but at least all these possible series come in at under 30 volumes, so they should take too long if they are picked up.
(There's also Dragonball Super, which has only just started coming out this year, but I'm not sure if the difference between Jump and V Jump factors into the colouring process and which teams are set to work on it at all. There's also a bunch of ecchi type series that were listed under the Shueisha filter on Booklive, but I really wasn't feeling up to checking the release status of every last one of those.)
The little bit of scary news I found in my digging is that Shueisha absolutely isn't afraid to drop a colour release if it isn't performing. Toriko was abandoned with 9 our 43 volumes coloured in 2013, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, dropped with 7 out of 42 volumes in 2012 and Gintama, let go with 17 of 77 complete in 2013. I strongly doubt this kind of thing is any kind of threat to One Piece, but it's still worth keeping in mind the precedent for killing an underperforming release. Good reason to buy the new volumes as they come out, even if you don't read Japanese, given they're only a few bucks each.
-
Nice info, Captain. Thank you : )

Has there been a physical release of any kind for any of the series you mentioned?
The US got physical releases of the full color Dragon Ball chapters for the Saiyan arc and Freeza arc. Sadly, they never released the Cell or Buu arcs. They didn't design the covers very well I think, so it's easy to see why they ddin't sell well.
I don't expect it, but I'd love a high quality full color physical release in English. I'd buy even Japanese volumes if they were released physically though.
Are they worried it would take away sales from the regular volumes? I think I still prefer the pen and ink chapters, but it's cool to read the color ones as well.

All of Dragon Ball, from the very beginning to the end of Z, had a physical release in Japan between 2013 and 2016, but as far I can see it's the only series to get that treatment. Maybe Dragon Ball didn't do so well. Could have been the fairly uninspiring covers, could be that the colour release was only two volumes shorter than the Kanzenban release for not that much of a price difference and didn't come across as a good investment for anyone who already owned the series. Maybe the mainstream physical bookbuying audience over there just wasn't ready to move away from the tradition of black and white manga yet.
I'm right there with you on a physical purchase if it ever did happen. English preferable, but I'd take what I can get just to have the art in a better quality than what the ebook sites offer.
I think the concern is actually the other way around. People aren't going to buy them because they already have the black and white volumes. I assume one of the reasons even the digital release is so far behind is to avoid people thinking "I just bought this" when they see it come up. It has to sit long enough to suck people in for a revisit. That exact thing happened to me with the English Dragon Ball colour volumes, actually. I'd just got my hands on the VizBig collection when they started coming out, and I couldn't justify diving straight back for another release that was going to be more volumes and more expensive per volume than what I'd just picked up. If they reprinted the volumes they did and made a commitment to doing the rest in a reasonable timeframe I'd probably jump on board now, but I guess it's a bit late for that.
My thinking is that any colour rerelease of anything that wants to succeed will probably need an omnibus or box set format and either some really good marketing or an easy hype tool like a revised translation, but I'm not any kind of professional marketing person or anything, and I haven't seen any figures for how the English or Japanese release of Dragon Ball actually did, so who knows.
-
I like the opposite, always prefer Digital AND Digital Colored Edition if possible. RAW or not, but full color please.
They should release everything that way, IMHO.

For a full color release, I'd really like a large print omnibus format.
For the regular manga, I like the regular volumes, but I think the Viz Sig imprint is the perfect format. They have acid free paper so they don't yellow like standard Viz volumes. They have stronger binding and a slightly bigger page size so it's way easier to open the volumes without bending the cover. Its not really an issue for most series, but Oda does so many double page spreads, often with text really close to the center of the page, that regular volumes can be difficult to read. Also, they usually have color spreads, particularly for the higher end releases like the Monster and 20th Century Boys 2 in 1 perfect editions. Something like that for One Piece would be perfect.
-
The VizSig volumes I have are pretty nice. One thing I appreciate is the flaps on the end of the covers, which is a great way to keep things like author comments in their original place without adding a fiddly dust jacket to such a small book.
For a rerelease of One Piece though, I'd like to something even bigger and more deluxe. A Sig or VizBig upgrade would have been nice earlier on, when the series was still relatively short, but now the upgrade needs to really tangible. The oversize hardcovers Dark Horse has been doing for Berserk, or the five-in-one Colossal Editions Kodansha's doing for Attack on Titan would be ideal for distinguishing a new release from the tiny single volumes (and would make an absolutely fantastic shelf centrepiece when there's a few of them out). I think whatever they do with it - if anything - it's going to be a tough balancing act managing volume count, affordability, marketing an upgrade to people who already spent hundreds of dollars on the single volumes and marketing an official release to one of the most broadly anti-official release fanbases still hanging around the anime/manga space.
I'm gonna keep hoping and dreaming though.

Yeah, those are valid points. I think they also need to be careful not to make the books too big and unwieldy as well. I think there's a balancing act between increasing page size and not making them uncomfortable to hold and read.
-
That's true. And the balance between having enough pages to finish the series at a decent rate and making the volumes so overloaded you feel you have to be super careful with it. My personal preference is for something that feels super deluxe, but who even knows if my vision is something that would sell.
-
At the very least Shueisha could release 3 volumes at once like last time.
