It'd be nice if the wiki in general started to prioritise the colour manga over the anime for its images, but good luck getting that change implemented across the whole site.

I tried doing that, and a Sysop undid it because “consensus.” Said consensus was before there even was a colored manga, but wikis are pretty conservative that way.

Consensus of who? Taken when? I think they just don't have the manpower to prioritise the manga across all 5,000 odd pages now and aren't bothered enough by how it is now. Which I understand, but still…
There's other things the wiki could do better as well. I think they commit too hard to Oda's jankier romanisations (Levely hurts me every time) and keep things a little too weeb-y in places (no mi instead of fruit all the damn time). Their arc/saga designations are also less than ideal in my eyes (particularly anything to do with the "Yonko Saga") and are treated waaaaay too much like official material by both editors and readers. There should at least be a disclaimer at the top of that page that it's all either speculative or pieced together as a middleground among the range of contradictory official material on the matter.
But eh, that's wikis for you. Anyone can edit it, but good luck changing anything.

You just verbalized pretty much everything I've been thinking about the wiki since I got into One Piece. I understand that they started prioritizing the anime images over manga before the color manga was even a thing, but I agree that they should make an effort to change it at this point, or at the very least update the manga images to their color counterparts. As for the romanizations, I've come to terms with Mary Geoise, but Levely is something I just can't get behind, and I'm not convinced that we won't see a better romanization of it in the manga sometime in the future, much like Nefertari and Shiryu. And the no mi… ugh... things like that feel intentionally exclusionary at this point, almost like they're trying to ostracize fans who prefer that their translated manga actually be translated.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a great resource that I use a lot, there's just… so many things I would do differently.
I think it takes a certain mindset to be a hardcore wiki editor, one of scouring everything related to the series for something to take as an official word rather than admitting some of the data is speculative or could be taken two different ways. And in the need for that official confirmation, certain things and statements get taken far too literally (such as off the cuff romanisations done for aesthetic purposes to please a non-English speaking audience, or an editor's note that was just meant to hype up coming battles, not give an official start point and name to a whole story arc). Some of the forums/discussion sections I've seen are a big back and forth circlejerk of who has the most "official" source for their interpretation, from databooks, to what version was used more often or more frequently, to what version was used most often to what was used when a character or place was at its most relevant.
That, and some old school weeabism, since I figure these guys are the long-time fans who've stuck around since nakama was going translation for basically any show of comradarie. I also get the impression they're the mainly the fans remember the official release only for the issues in its first few volumes and don't care how much better it is now, which is still so disappointingly common.
It would be nice to see the wiki more centered around the manga for images, or using the official release to decide make consistent decisions on contentious translations, but the culture I've seen there doesn't make that kind of sweeping change feel appealing to suggest to even suggest to users, let alone try to implement.

You may be right, Captain M, but people will never agree how to do things, as they never agree how to rip a single volume…
Maximum res or best quality/size option?
All single pages or all double pages? Or maybe a mix?
Rip every single page or better skipping some stupid ones (blank ones, Ussop's Gallery, etc... because they are stupid, right? Or not?)And all of this apart from bigger mistakes like doing single pages (from double ones) and then you join them... to realise they are a total mess, not fitting at all.
Pages with such a different contrast, some are black, other are grey (talking about B&W version, of course).
Nonsense everywhere.People.

Ain't that the way. I know my answer to all those, but who's to say if it'd be the same as everyone else's.
As easy as it would make things, there's no perfect answer to pleasing everyone, whether it's for ripping volumes, formatting wikis and even just translating the manga. But hey, you gotta voice what you want to see, because you never know how many people might want the same thing but are just being quiet about it. Sometimes the number of people who agree with you is zero, but that's just life
-
Yeah, pal. True.
Right now just reading a comment about how we should always have single page on every rip, because of programs like CDDisplay which joins them automatically, etc.
Those upscaled Colored RAW rips were done double page, because that's the "natural" way of reading it.
I use CDDisplay in the past, but now I'm reading manga on a very different way, so I prefer a mix of single & double (but please WELL DONE double) pages. So… Very good. All different opinions in a moment. WTF xD
Edit: There is a guy who uploaded a very good Bleach DCR (3056px, wow!) but he "forgot" to include the very first pages on each volume (poem, index, etc)... WTF again. You were doing it so well >_:getlost:

CDisplay is nice in a bunch of ways, especially for casual reading, but (unless there's a way of using it I haven't figured out yet) it isn't great for the things I use my One Piece archive for. I've got a 10,000 image "complete one piece" folder with the whole manga in it. I mostly use it to quickly reference pages and events for discussions and theories, but cause you can set the thumbnails to extra large and scroll through fairly rapidly to quickly scan for a key moment. It's even faster than flipping through one of the physical volumes. Having to compress each volume into a .cbr file for CDisplay would kill the ability to do that. But I think it's also easier to automate the connection of single pages than it is properly separating natural double pages, so for now it probably pleases more people to rip the volumes that way.
It's good to hear more of Jump's colour series are being actively ripped at all. I wonder if a finished series like Bleach still has enough of a following to scanlate it as well. I found torrents for the colour version of Death Note a while back, but they tragically stopped at volume 10 at the time, which was incredibly frustrating. That was ages ago tho, I should go back and see if they ever finished it.
Wish there was a better way to let Shueisha know there was demand not just for English versions of the series they have done, but for them to do more series as well. I reckon tons of people would be interested in say, full colour Hero Aca if they started doing it now.
-
For sure. Digital Colored is the best. Even more if we have high res releases like this Bleach one. A pity those missing pages, tho. Damn.
Now I have found all D.Gray-Man volumes from Mr. Kimiko (B&W). Nice one, but again… Single pages, and when you join them... argghhhh... They don't fit at all. WTF.
Why always doing such a big fail. LuCaZ was doing it with a little less res (2100px instead of 2250px, still haven't found any +3000px) but at least with WELL MADE double pages.About Death Note Digital Colored RAWs, I remember a (not very kind) girl? from several years ago... albasti?... She had a blog, and was doing it, yep. First volumes quite bad, she used a frame around every page (WTF????), all double pages. Later on she started doing it better, no senseless frame, single pages, higher res. And... I think she was with volume 10 last time I remember...
This is from albasti... _"I used a different method from what was done in 2014. Instead of screenshotting SJ’s HTML player with a fullscreen monitor, I ripped directly. That’s why the images are bigger too (2017 method = 1892x3033 and >5 MB for one page VS 2014 method = 2042x1613 and <5 MB for two merged pages.)"
That's the way, +3000px is the quality we want. But this was from 8 onwards, so the previous ones… Damn._
I have a look and it seems some other guy (mikami on tumblr) upload volumes 10-12, then… Maybe we have DN colored RAWs out there... Let's hope with good quality (+3000px).:ninja:

Sometimes when the single pages don't fit together it's the fault of the publisher, not the ripper. The page layouts are designed for physical books still, and they assume the exact place the pages join will be lost in the spine. It's a real frustration. Even some super recent One Piece chapters have had it in their official digital versions.
I think Albasti might be where I got it from. I thought it was torrent because most things are, but the name and mention of a blog sound familiar. Good of her to do as much as she did, if nothing else. It takes time and money to do even low quality rips of a whole series. The white boarders show it's not the best possible quality, which is always a shame, but at least they're an easy fix. Takes like 2 minutes to set up photoshop to batch crop a whole volume automatically. I did a similar thing recently with the digital rips of I believe it was vol 91 of One Piece, which all had the same borders.
The only fan communities I've really see embrace the colour thing and work to make it fully available are One Piece and Jojo. Most of the other series Shueisha is colouring seem to be finished works (aside from Hunter x Hunter I guess) so having new versions come out could breathe new life into the fanbases if anyone ever got to it.
-
Yes, I think only One Piece has these hardcore fans.
Not interested in Jojo, but glad to know it is translated aswell. Great.I have seen a torrent with HxH DCRs, but not a very good quality like that Bleach one (+3000px).
If double page issue is a publisher's fault, oh my God… ¬¬U... Crazy world.
But what about those different tones (black vs dark grey?) -
If there is anyone on this thread that can help me. I am missing the RAWS for Volume 83 Digitally colored. I've been searching high and low for them but to no avail. Could a Real MVP help a fellow OP brother out? Thank you

Damn, Nyaa does not let me register with my hotmail account >_<
I wanted to tell HigherSky the missing pages I founded on his Bleach Digital Colored torrent (high res 3056px).I will leave my notes here, if anyone has an account I will be grateful to leave HigherSky a comment on his nyaa torrent…
Bleach DCR missing pages (HigherSky):
Poem, Characters & TOC (first volume pages) & Back cover, etc (last volume pages) till v53.
Volume 28, pages 093, 094 (also Volume 28 after double page 128-129 there are 2 repeated pages). There are a few pages on DCR with awesome resolution (6112x4825). More than epic.
Apart from this, there were a missing page on the typical DCE we had since a long time ago. However, easily fixed with same page from DCR, which has no dialogue at all, so… :D!
Bleach DCE missing pages (LostNerevarine-Empire):
Volume 45, page 160Thank you!

I dont know how to rip them

I know that this is probably a clichéd thing to say, but I really wish they would've made physical editions of digitally colored One Piece, to me this is the defintive version of the manga and I really wish I had the ability to read it without resorting to scanlations.

Hey, maybe if it gets said enough maybe someone in charge of that kind of thing will start to listen…
My dream would be an omnibus release based on the Japanese log collections with a revised and updated translation, but I'd take anything I could get honestly.
-
Yeh, an improved translation would be just about perfect for all the B+W fans if thats what your talking about… First and foremost, the English version of the One Piece manga needs to be enjoyed from a reading perspective, with a translation everyone can agree on and be happy with. I've been thinking more along the lines of fonts design and charcters voices inside the speech bubbles. Like MofoGoku in his prime, I guess. Maybe that isn't the best example of what I'm talking about. I think the fonts should a semi-formal/comicy and bouncy handwriting style, with visible quirks in speech. It'll have to be consistent with the expression of the art… throughout the entire series. That includes the visually appealing sound effects. One Piece is a huge world with a shit ton of characters, once a translation is there the manga just really needs fonts that compliment the artwork.
P.S. Yes, I'm re-(re)doing the upscale of the digitally colored volumes... The quality is a major improvement, but its double pages and everything:sad:... doing it the double page way really saves a lot of time cause I'm doing this all on my phone and I need to select each image one-by-one. I seriously need time for this so I really dont know why I'm bothering to tell, but I only have volume 6 done which I am completely satisfied with and undoubtedly proud of.
I will send previews on discord in a little while.
