I'm curious to see if Brook has a tragic background that got him to be a kingdom guard.
Oda's Interviews

-
Maybe I shouldn't jinx it, but I doubt Oda is even able to ruin One Piece on a Got-level at this point. It's definitely reassuring that he had the endgame scenario in his head since the earlier days - and we're pretty much there.
Iam also confident Oda won´t screw up. Wanting to draw a certain scene in his manga wass always Odas motivation, and him knowing the ending since the beginning and craving for it for such a long time (it may be even the reason he wants to see his work finihed) has to count for something.
Maybe i will be disappointed when it hasn´t to do with destroying the redline and uniting all Blues, thought -
Maybe Bonney has something to do with him if she is in deed far older than her usual appearance…
-
Perhaps something related to that "certain kingdom" he was a guard for.
There's a possibility, of course. Brook comes from West Blue, the same sea as Robin (and Ohara), Moria, Sai, Laffite, Sanjuan Wolf, Capone and the Firetanks, Shanks, Daz Bones and Carmel. Any of those could lead into a past related to that kingdom. I've heard theories that Laffite (often considered Brook's counterpart in the BB pirates) may have come from the same force in the same kingdom.

Lafitte was a policeman though, not a soldier.

It's not like we know a lot beyond brief descriptions of either. They could come from the same kind of national guard, but one was sent into battle, the other was keeping order in the kingdom.

Considering Tsuru knew about him, it sounds more like he was a WG employee instead of a kingdom soldier. The Marines tends to work with the police the few times we've seen the latter (like in Loguetown)
The impression I get from "sheriff" is that he came from some island akin to Usopp or Nami's, with no kingdom affiliation, which would explain why he was so brutal and corrupt (no one was above him). Kinda like if Genzo were Arlong.

Brook, Ohara, Laffitte, Shanks. West Blue is interesting.

If I remember correctly, Kid too.

@All:
If I remember correctly, Kid too.
Kid, Franky and Killer are from South Blue, which is interesting as well. Torino Kingdom, Linbergh. A couple technicians, engineers and inventors as a theme. I wonder why

Brook, Ohara, Laffitte, Shanks. West Blue is interesting.
There's Capone and the story of the mafia too.

One Piece is already enough of a mom cemetery as it is.
Banchina, Bell-mere, Sora, Olvia, Otohime, Titi, Scarlet, Rouge, Toki, Law's mom, Doflamingo's mom…
Am I forgetting someone?

Mayumi Tanaka asks Oda-sensei about Luffy's mother and he answered like that :

I guess someday he will tell the story. Im not sure if luffy's mother isn't going to be portraited even once in the whole story.
We'll see it once Dragon get more screen time. -

We'll see it once Dragon get more screen time. She'll probably be a flashback character. Wouldn't be surprised if the reason Dragon, the son of the world's greatest Marine, started the Revolutionaries for some horrible crime committed on Luffy's mother. We dont know what took place before Luffy was 7 anyway
-
I'm more interested in who Luffy's Grandmother(Dragon's Mom) would be.

Saaaaaaame.
It already makes sense that most revolutionaries (like Sabo for example) started from a personal place,
and it would certainly feel fitting if Luffy's Mom was a motivating casualty for Dragon. -
They've been wrong before, but iirc the Vivre Cards contradicted that by establishing Dragon created the Revolutionary Army before Luffy's birth.

Luffy's VA mentioned in the latest Jump interview that Luffy escaping with Crocodile and Ace's death are the most memorable scenes. In 2019, Japanese talent asked Oda if Ace will revive, but he instantly denied. Here is my summary of how Oda considers manga characters' death.
Question: Why didn't you create a manga like some other mangakas where dead characters revive?
Oda : Revival of a human isn't natural, right? (laugh)
If a mangaka ends up reviving the dead, he shouldn't have killed that character in the first place. My characters don't die even if they are thrown into a desperate situation. On top of that, I have been hating the revival of dead characters ever since I was a kid. It made me doubt a mangaka, like "The reason why this mangaka revived a certain character may be because the character was popular…"
I won't do what I doubted as a kid and I'll do what I wanted a mangaka to do. 10 years have passed since OP started, but my criteria hasn't changed that I should satisfy 15-year-old myself.

Oda: My characters don't die even if they are thrown into a desperate situation.
Pell: Yes.
Monet: :ninja:
Shenlong: =(.
Nice to know dead characters are never coming back. I love Ace and the continued relevance of his existence in the arcs but his death in the story (along with Whitebeard's) was such a massive moment in the manga.
Considering Oda's writing style, I only consider a present time named character to have died if Oda has explicitly shown/illustrated said character to have died e.g. Higuma, Alabasta Tsumegeri Guards, Mr 11, Roshio, Zabo, Jigra, Going Merry, Ace, Whitebeard, Yasuie. Any other character with ambiguity surrounding their perceived "death" I interpret as being still alive until otherwise shown/illustrated to be dead.
Thanks for the info and post Sandman!

I know its not a good thing to write it but its news and bad news,
Today in One Piece live-stream to celebrating 1000 Chapters, Media Editor, Takuma Naito was present his screen in the live-stream and he tried to search for something, and unfortunately it shows that Naito has enter to illegal website which uploaded illegal scans for "NSFW" manga
However, today Shueisha start campaign to Copyright "illegal" content in twitter like One Piece, BNHA and etc. Bad day for Shueisha !
Here is the picture from the live-stream:

I don't know japanese and don't know these sites, so maybe I'm missing something more dramatic… However, while this may be an embarassement, it's maybe part of his job as a media editor to go to these parts of the web and see what's going on.

damn
worst day for one piece stans

Well, if you look at the website, you will know that is not a part of his Job as Media Editor for One Piece or anything else.

Isn't Naito the editor who wanted to badoinka-doink Carrot? Maybe that would explain the NSFW aspects of it. The legal sources can't possibly satisfy him in this regard. He's the victim, I say!
-
Oh god it's bunny porn. Dear god no
-
Where does oda find these editors. I used to like them more when they only told oda when his story is boring and should make it more interesting.(introducing the supernovas). But the only way Oda can make the story more interesting for Naito is if he draws nudes with carrot…
-
Oh god it's bunny porn. Dear god no
As if we needed any more proof of Carrot fan degeneracy
-
So is it a hentai site or just a generic site "which uploaded illegal scans and NSFW"?
-
Checking the popularity poll website every day, I'm wondering how Oda will feel if Luffy doesn't win.
Oda in the 1st popularity poll: I'm glad Luffy won. I was worried he might get surpassed by Zoro or Shanks.
Oda in 2018: Luffy is an ideal kid for me.
Oda's email to Sanji's VA: Don't speak ill of Zoro.
Isn't Naito the editor who wanted to badoinka-doink Carrot? Maybe that would explain the NSFW aspects of it. The legal sources can't possibly satisfy him in this regard. He's the victim, I say!
Yeah, editor Naito said, "I wonder what kind of baby would be born if I got married to Carrot." Editor Sugita tried to prevent him from talking further, but Naito continued, "Diversity like this should be tolerated in this modern era."
So is it a hentai site or just a generic site "which uploaded illegal scans and NSFW"?
The website only handles pirated hentai mangas including both professional and amateur works. Some 5ch users appreciate Naito for letting them know the "helpful" site…

I'd love to talk about the diversity of sexy, underage bunny people.
-
According to Shueisha official announcement today, editor Naito touched that link "unintentionally". :ninja:
-
Can't wait for him to unintentionally release his private tape "One Naito in Carroto", filmed primarily with a single stationary, tripod-mounted camera using naito vision.

I wish I could read sandman's article. That they addressed it publicly is so funny I can hardly breath. Did they excuse the bunny porn or the fact that it was a scan site? Or both?
-
I see, the standard excuse of every teenage boy that gets caught watching porn and their mom pretends to believe.

I bet it was one of those oddly specific pop up windows

He probably told his superiors and the others at Shueisha "hey, you guys all watch hentai too, bunch of perverts, just look at the ecchi mangas we publish for teenagers!", and so they quietly accepted they couldn't do anything to that man.

Maybe that's how he became an editor in the first place. He found their porn stash, made them put his waifu front and center and held this above their heads until this finally freed them.

Is the problem that it is hentai or that it is pirated? I think it´s the latter, no?

Oda commentary about Ruroken exhibition !
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EsAp0GAWMAYKbc0?format=jpg&name=largeThank you for the pic, Kurowon! Here is my translation.
The author Watsuki, Oda's mentor, said he should have reduced the number of 10 Swords, an antagonist group.
Oda made a similar statement in 2017 that he should have reduced the number of Shichibukai.Oda: Watsuki-sensei has an amazing personality. People love "Rurouni Kenshin" probably because of his seriousness toward his fans.
Fans fully understand it, which is why they love Watsuki-sensei. Hopefully he will draw manga forever.
Below is his old interview I posted in 2017.
Oda: OP has not finished yet despite this 20-year-serialization. The main reason is Shichibukai. I intended to finish OP in 5 years.
It was supposed to be a story to fight Yonkou. However, I came up with the idea of Shichibukai…
I just thought, "It would be badass if these characters showed up". Then as you can see, it caused this long serialization!!Why didn't I make them Gobukai or Nibukai!!
(TN: "Go" means 5, "Ni" means 2 and "Shichi" as in Shichibukai means 7 in Japanese.)
I thought 7 was a cool number!! That said, I don't regret it since I drew what I wanted. …I'm regretting a bit!! -
Just saw some complaining about this on Twitter. Oda can't change his admiration for his mentor because you want him to. Some people need to just deal with it.

Yeah, honestly that was more than I expected.
On a side note, Aside from Oda, 14 mangakas sent celebration messages to Watsuki including Kishimoto, Sorachi, Shimabukuro, Obata, Inagaki, Yabuki, Hiroyuki Takei, Yusei Matsui, Shinya Suzuki, Kazuhiro Fujita, Nobuyuki Anzai, Yasuhiro Nightow, Katsunori Matsui and Mikio Ito..
