OST's were great in this episode, really made it more enjoyable
Damn, that was a great episode. Animation was decent, art and direction were on point, and the voice acting was amazing. Way better than the manga IMO.
Good episode all around. I only had one problem with it: Diamante says the Toy Soldier "cried like a baby" when Scarlet died, but it's explicitly stated that he can't shed tears, feel warmth, etc. Even if he just means the sound, it was a poor turn of phrase.

People seem to say it all the time… but eh... I never really agree with it.
I don't think the chapter was bad, I just think the content came across better in the episode.
The only episode I enjoyed more than the corresponding chapter was 651: "Always protect! Rebecca and the Toy Soldier".
My favorite of 2014, easily.

I don't mean it as something negative or anything, it just surprised me that 3 or 4 posters all agreed that this was much better than the manga counterpart; I don't visit this section very much, so I don't know if that's a trend? I honestly would've thought the opposite, with people enjoying the manga a bit more.
I mean, there IS a tradition of hating what Toei is doing with One Piece, though it seems the Dressrosa adaptation has upped the bar a bit.

It was a decent episode that didn't have any serious greivances in art or animation, which in and of itself is kind of remarkable. As a more emotional episode it was enhanced by solid voice acting and excellent music choices. I think it also benefitted in several people's minds from two factors:
A) the framing of the shots put less of a focus on Ussop in his infuriating moment of character regression
B) there's no argument about a weak girl getting beaten down because we already had this discussion a year ago
So basically it was a good episode of a bitter chapter.

Watching the latter half of Punk Hazard all in a row, not having seen it before/yet, I was really rather excited throughout the whole thing. I hadn't watched episodes in over a year, however, so it was likely to be just a really good refresh. But, I think the consistency seemed rather good, in any case. I'm getting used to the "big" style of art, a more mature one than previous Old World arcs. …With this arc, I'm not as sure. The coliseum crowd repetition is the hugest offender; the rest's pacing is just mildly less attractive than Punk Hazard's. (There was much more conflict of big power happening at that island, or something, making it more interesting, all happening at once, lots of action/activity simultaneous in everyone's group. Islands without towns on them are also massively appealing, possibly, for me.) They also seem to be getting exceedingly close to the manga (but, maybe someone can provide numbers showing that it's no more close than recently it's already been). I'm also caught up now, having watched too many episodes in a row, on top of the pacing literally likely having been slowed down (again, compared to PH).
Anyway, glad I didn't watch the preview for the next episode.
