Street Fighter has ALWAYS had 'idealized' characters, as have MOST media in general. What I find to be funny is that no one cares about the blatant racist portrayal of ALL the characters. And I have a theory as to why: It is inclusionary. No one is 'safe' or off limits. I also believe that to be true of all the character's designs, female AND male. Most of the men are rippling ponds of muscles, and on average show much more skin than their female counter parts. Where is the outrage about the potrayal of the men in the game?

I need to make sure this point hits home: I am a feminist. Women and men of all colors should be treated equally, and in the case of Street Fighter they are. On closer inspection it looks like the men are more tilted toward eye candy. If anything the females need to catch up.

The fourth and final SFV beta is scheduled for Jan. 30-31, but it appears Capcom opened up the servers a bit early… at least for now. Early on Friday, the SFV beta went live on both PS4 & PC, featuring 15 out of 16 playable characters (still no F.A.N.G.). Whether or not it's live when you read this, you might as well try logging in throughout the weekend. It was supposed to read : the blatant stereotypical racist portrayal of ALL the characters.

The original scetches and names of the characters were even worse, but I've never seen that as a bad thing. Street Fighter treats everyone the same. There are no sacred cows. They treat everyone as equals. And I really like that about them. It never feels classless, and that they are ridiculing any race color or creed. We are all free and equal to take a hell of a beating on the streets.

You haven't? I think there is a youtube video out there comparing Dhalsim and The Great Tiger trying to find out which character is more racist. I have the same love for Punch Out as I do Street Fighter. I can still beat Tyson with no cheats, no deaths, and zero continue codes. I wish we had more games like it.

On a stream, I heard someone on the Capcom UK team imply that he'd been recently hands-on with a build of Balrog. Based on that alone, I'm going to predict Balrog will be the first DLC character.

(though it's entirely possible that they're all completed, just waiting to be rolled out, in which case your guess is as good as mine)

Today, Capcom released a "full-length" version of the Street Fighter V CG trailer / opening movie! The complete version is just over 3 minutes long and features all 16 launch fighters. This is definitely one of the most epic Street Fighter intros we've seen in quite some time… be sure to enjoy in full 1080p!

Today, Capcom made two surprise Street Fighter V announcements via Twitter. The first one is that Alex from SFIII will be SFV's first DLC character and will become available in March! Once again, players won't have to purchase SFV character DLC with real money, as it will be unlockable through playing the game. Additionally, PS3 controllers & fightsticks will be compatible on PS4 version of SFV!

With Street Fighter V's big release coming in just under a week, there's no stopping the hype. Capcom didn't really need to increase the hype today, but they decided to anyway… by showing a brief glimpse of Alex's in-game model in their latest Japanese trailer for the game. The 5-minute trailer includes segments from past trailers, then runs through all 16 launch fighters. That said, you might just want to skip to 4:45 to see the Alex teaser.

Capcom Unity posted a new blog today detailing SFV story costumes and new modes like Survival & Challenge Mode, which includes: Trials, Targets, Extra Battle and Battle Tips (coming in March). Capcom also mentioned online battle lobbies will support 2 players at launch, but 8-player lobbies along with Spectator mode will be patched into the game as part of the March 2016 update. Yeah, but the mainstream press has no idea how to evaluate a fighting game at launch anyway. To be fair, it's hard for anyone to, because you still don't know how the balance and meta will shake down. I expect it will get 8.5/10s, with reviewers praising it for being "easy to pick up, hard to master!" and having "gorgeous animation!" while complaining about the lack of content for anybody who doesn't want to actually play the game online against other human beings. Each review will be obligated to mention how the ladies' costumes are problematic, so that might be another half-point docked right there.

I've had it on pre-order anyway, and I can deal with a month of "lacking" features. There's plenty of other games coming out in February that will be commanding my attention.

Loved F.A.N.G. alt outfit, way better than the original one in my opinion, and what Necalli is made of stone ? One last thing, I really liked the way Vega was portrayed in this art, he is so happy…Can I say insanely happy ?

Birdie's alt outfit is supposed to be a reference of Bison's outfit, but in game, he looks like Rufus..Which is a bad thing..I think.

If you only want one character, then take advantage of the way their presenting it, and use all your hard-earned Bipson Bucks to just get that character! Personally I think I'll be taking a pass on Guile and Balrog, unless they come in massively re-designed. Just never been a fan of those two.

The painting on his face and arms is slightly different, he has small bones on his necklace instead of the three small skulls and is wearing gold protections in his arms and legs instead of three rings made of rope/wood/whatever. The only clear difference, though, is his upper body is covered.

If SFV's in-game currency and unlocking system is unclear to you, here's an image from Capcom's official guide that explains everything you need to know about Fight Money, Zenny, and how to obtain DLC characters & costumes. To sum it up, Fight Money is earned in-game and can be used to buy post-launch characters & story costumes. Zenny, based on real money ($1 = 100 Zenny), can be used to buy characters and premium costumes (purchasable with Zenny only).

The game ain't bad, but man is it incomplete as of today. I'm surprised story mode costumes can be bought with fight money, they're pretty neat. And I already have enough FM to buy Alex next month, so there's that.

That said: 1- Story Mode (more like Extremely Short Prologue Mode) is so crappy. No difficulty setting, 1 round, full EX and Trigger gauge from the get go, against static mummies that don't even defend themselves? Wathever. . .

2- The Lag. Goddammit. Is Capcom trying to solve this issue? Cause if I restrict fights to a 4-5 connection I can't find anyone to fight with. In 2 hours I managed to fight a total of 2 times. This is very annoying.

yeah, I'm playing these "story modes" just for the points. It's a little fun to see the characters interacting, but the awful art hurts it, and the fights themselves have no challenge whatsoever. Survival on the harder difficulties is a little more meaty if you want some single-player stuff, but it still takes a while to get past the braindead AI and into something remotely threatening, and even then you're still playing a CPU.

Since last night I've had no issues with lag or finding matches, but of course that's all anecdotal.

[hide]I completed all the stories, they are fun to read and I also liked the way the characters interact with each other. Surprised to see Oro during the cutscenes, it may give me false hopes. But I have to agree, they can be fun to read, but they are kinda boring to do, no challenge whatsoever, and in the end, I wanted to know more about the characters and what will happen next (and I don't want to wait for a Street Fighter VI). Another thing, characters like Nash, Bison, and Vega that I used to consider hard to master, now they are easy to learn, IDK if this is a good thing.

I've played….about a few hours (half of the stories, a good amount of survival) on the PC Version. Honestly, the only slowdown I ever had was during the tutorial. I think the game looks great and I love the art in the story but I feel like the simplification is hurting the game. It made me reminisce about IV and the fact that I never got ultimate (which now I want it). I modded the game to remove the censorship, still can't believe it was censored but Laura's story mode costume gets a free pass (BTW, Mika special, Cammy's intro, and Chun-Li's win pose are what was edited. Other mods are fun too but there's not much point because modding disables online).

Basically….I feel like this game will have LESS staying power with the fighting game community when compared to IV and that has nothing to do with missing modes or characters.

No options for supers, less specials, less combo potential, removal of different types of set up play (since there isn't FADC), can't really play defensively, charge attack removals, etc.

It just seems like a less technical game. It definitely will get played, but I doubt it can ever hit the popularity of IV (unless they really do release an updated version that adds a lot of new mechanics). It's a lot more fun for new players, and it's a way easier game to get new people into fighting games, but it's sorta feeling like the transition from melee to brawl to me.

Yes, and it still only happens on the 2p side. It's a literal glitch that they acknowledged over 9 months ago, and have still somehow never managed to fix.

I don't know if the programming team is just three dudes in a single, unlit room sharing a 2011 Macbook or what, but things like this make me wonder.

It'll be interesting to see how the game shapes up. Vanilla SF4 and USF4 are pretty far removed, after all. Personally, I don't mind the lack of combo flexibility - you don't need a thousand combos in a match anyway, just an optimal one for each situation. But it would be nice to get a different super - I feel like almost everybody just has the "combo ender" variety, hardly any anti-fireball or anti-air ones.

but regardless of how GOOD the game is, the fact that Capcom and Sony are pushing it so hard, the Pro Tour is pumping money into the scene, EVO has registered more people (already) for SFV than SF4 got last year, and the regular content updates makes me think it can't help but keep getting played, as long as those entities keep pushing it. Also, the balance will be a big factor - MetaKnight looming so large over the early tourney scene really killed a lot of interest and excitement I recall (to use your Brawl reference), so with just 22 characters, people will already be seeing less character variety than they're used to with USF4. A mirror match grand finals at EVO would really hurt the game's reputation, I think.
