Im just wondering if anyone knows wat the longest manga is and how long it is. i only bring it up cuz one piece is alrdy at vol 40 and it doesnt look like its gonna end any time soon

Berserk's pretty long, but I think the world's longest manga is at around one hundred volumes. I cannot remember what it is. =/
The longest running Anime, though, is (although not by far), Case Closed, or rather, Detective Conan.

Kochi Kame, Doraemon and Sazae-san hold the title, at well over 100 volumes each (approaching 150).

I gather the longest runners tend to not be "serials" (clear progression, defined beginning, middle, and end, but more episode oriented (everything wrapped up at the end of a chapter or a few and returned to zero for a new start next week).

I'd expect it's harder to pull off a long serial manga– you have to clutch onto a fanbase and not let go. Picking up OP 400 chapters in with all its backstory is a hard sell, so you can't really get new fans in.
