While I'm not super-familiar with this series, I'm starting this thread for two reasons. One, I intend to start reading it soon and hadn't seen a thread for it specifically, and two, there's a kickstarter in place to get the anime an official English release (manga already has been I think) with, as of this posting, just over a week left on it.

Our heroine Kyoko, who followed her boyfriend Shou to the Big City while he pursued his career in showbusiness. When she comes to the realization that he was only ever using her for his own convenience, she gets mad, and then decides to get even. When Shou mocks her, saying that the only revenge she could possibly take against him is the impossible task of becoming more famous than he's become, Kyoko basically decides 'Challenge Accepted' and takes on show business herself.

Is anyone else familiar with this series?

I remember reading the first volume or so in bookstores before, but recently with the kickstarter a friend of mine I do manga review videos with has gotten me curious about it, since he's supporting spreading the word on the kickstarter so I'd been thinking of reading it more thoroughly.

AMAZING manga. A very long manga, and still going, but if you want a heroine who defies tropes yet still adheres to the shoujo standards, this is a great manga.

There are some fans who want her to get back with Shou, and all I can say is, "Are you idiots? That would defy her entire character growth."

I'd be more behind this if I wasn't more of a manga person than I am an anime person now. But I support people supporting it! Skip Beat is worth every dollar!

With less than 4 Days to go the project now has been fully funded, so the North American release is a go. There's a stretch goal of $185,000 for a Blu-Ray release.
