General Monster Hunter Thread

I looked I looked I looked, and I saw no threads. Regardless if there is one, it needed a jumpstart.

Monster Hunter is one if the greatest, if not the greatest Action J-RPG that ever existed. Seriously, for 30-40 bucks you get well over 500 hours of gameplay, battling terrifying monsters with a difficulty scale out the frickin roof.

3U is a great place for people new to the series to jump in (They give a lot of buffs in the beginning, not as punishing until later) and with 4U around the corner, probably my most anticipated game, there is no greater reason to jump in and discuss this great series.

I'd love to discuss this series with any of you and whether you are having trouble with the game, questions, need a friend to play online with, hopefully this thread will be of use.

It always looked like a nice game to me but i don't know if i'd really like it. I tried the 3 Ultimate demo, and the gameplay was actually fun … but i just got frustrated because i was dying all the time ...

Maybe i'll look into it again when the new game comes out.

My first experience with the franchise was with MH3 on Wii and I totally fall in love with it.
How many hours I spent with that game.
It's a shame the 3DS version doesn't have online since that's the strong side of the game.
there's nothing greater than hunt with your friends.

I'm totally getting the 4th installment on day one.

The demo is shit. It just throws you in the game with no directions at all. The only thing I can tell you is just to buy the game and start from the beginning , read all of the text, and slowly plow through it. You will be good at it in no time, it just takes a little.

Btw I would get 3U for now, it has tons of monsters that 4U wont have, so if you play 4U and decide that you want to play some new monsters, you may be disappointed that 4U improved so much on 3U and you wouldnt enjoy it as much.

@ Hekti: Me too! I already pre-ordered it an everything. The amount of content in 4U is staggering.

Forget the lance, my favorites are the insect glaive and the charged axe. The fact the later is an upgraded version of the Axe/Sword makes it gain additional points.

I've been getting my feet wet in Monster Hunter, starting with the 3rd one since I got in on some sale forever ago. And 20 hours in, it feels like I've haven't accomplished anything lol. I've completed some 3 star quests but I've gathered materials for only 1 decent weapon so far and it's one of those jumbo swords so I'd rather not buy it. The game is fun to play but after 20 hours I doubt that I scratched the surface.

It's fairly challenging, I can't believe I ran out of time to beat the Qurupeco on my first try. FIFTY minutes or slashing away and I couldn't win :blink: But I did win on my second try at around 35 minutes I think. Packing extra paintballs helps a ton

Still nowhere close to finishing 3U on the 3DS but I recently got 4U and I love it. Need to increase my skills with it but I'm working on it. I haven't been with the series long–-I started out on Tri close to when the servers were about to close---but I've spent a decent amount of time on the series.

As far as 4U is concerned, I'm working through the village questions for a while---at least until some point into High Rank---before I try online. Just fought my first Tigrex the other day though. I've been looking forward to that. Is anyone else getting/have it?

Last time I tried playing it, I got to a point where the monsters were either too fast for my attacks to hit, or they seemed to have so much health that I wasn't even causing any visible damage.

Have you watch Pro Jared's beginner videos? Those helped me a lot when I started the series.

You just have to keep hunting and playing. The more you hunt monsters, the more you will see yourself improve. I promise you. I only started playing 3U sometime last year and was terrible at it. I now play 3U and 4U (currently on high rank in both) and hunt with challenge but little to no struggle. Its such a rewarding experience!

! I shat myself when I saw the Dah'ren Mohran. I was like "a friggin elder dragon to start with!?". Thankfully, it was meant for me to make a flashy entrance.

I beat high rank in MH3, but to get to G-rank you need to do the quests at the tavern rather than the village…

So redo dozens of quests (most of which will be mind-numbingly easy at this point) for G-rank or start playing MH4? Yeah, pretty easy choice

The Nerscylla was a pain in the ass. I did well in packing up antidotes because the bastard kept poisoning me everytime it had the chance. But I had a lot of fun and finally obtained carves to craft myself a brand new insect glaive.

I have no idea what effects these nectar upgrades actually have on the kinsect(those values are vague), but this insect glaive seems OP so far. Bosses are going down like flies. I'm still early in the game though.

It does wonders. I felled the Zamtrios in just 7 minutes with that. Though now I have something better, the Guardsqual. I'm also fortunate I farmed all I needed for the Najarala Long Sword in my first hunt.

Surprised how far behind this thread got relegated. The new and soon to be released MHX looks incredible.

After introducing us to the different types of hunting styles and their implimentation to each weapon class, Capcom takes it up another notch by introducing the new variants of existing monsters. To put it short, these new variations are classified as HC (Hardcore) because of their crazy new movesets and the insane damage output. The over the top monsters of MHF have finally made it to the main series!

I always find it baffling this thread isn't more active. Monster Hunter is one of the best videogame sagas I've had the pleasure of playing, and MHW is already shapping to become the game of the year, IMO.

Which is why I skipped on the beta this time. The visuals are enough to make me drool, but the full game is the way to go.

I've been keeping half an eye on this game (having never played any of the other games in the series) after some of the gameplay trailers made it look like something that could scratch my "fairly mindless, open-world, action RPG with a decent character progression system" itch after BoTW kinda shat the bed in that regard. What stood out to you as being eh about the beta?

I imagine it to be more or less similar to MH4 (with new world etc), so the game shouldn't dissapoint? Also it might not have that many new Features?

It's a definitly buy for me, but I didn't have time for the betas. But they made a 3rd beta for this Weekend, and I will definitely Play it with some friends now (if it's possible in the beta)

I will give the Charge Axt/sword and the insect weapon a try Always played with the Long sword… time to try something new

The beta is no different than in previous entries. You get to choose between three monsters to hunt. Only this time, because of the seamless maps and freedom of exploration, you can also opt to hunt any other monster that isn't part of the mission.

Also, you have probably chosen the worst time to play the beta, Kroggar, as they are throwing in a buffed up version of the flagship monster with a 15 min. time limit to complete the mission, lol

But really, the game is a must for anyone who wants to experience a living ecosystem and thrilling hunts first-hand.
