Blizzard: Hey guys we made a first person moba!
Gearbox: WTF!?
I can't watch the videos right now but the site's descriptions make it sound like TF2 with more complex MOBA-inspired abilities. Potentially great.
Character designs are cheesy as hell, though. The Reaper looks more like something from 1994 than 2014.
Looks kinda wacky.[h=2][/h]

They won't make Starcraft Ghost but they'll give us this.
They won't make Starcraft Ghost but they'll give us this.
Starcraft Ghost was meant to be a single player console game - then Blizzard was bought by Activision who politely reminded Blizzard that they don't make single player games anymore they make franchises that are esport multiplayer with a regular income structure.
This game looks fun - but I just get the feeling Blizzard has lost some of its soul the games feel and look like people who want to make things more fun but have a weight dragging them down requiring them to ensure what they make is able to produce income.
Hearthstone from all accounts is an anomoly since it was made by a small team and then given massive backing once they found they could sell card packs
I feel this game shows a lot of promise, also its not too violent that my lil ones can pick up n play. After watching the trailer it reminded them of the Incredibles, I see a good appeal for this if marketed right, and if of course the gameplay is approachable and fun.

Blood and headshots aren't violent? dont confuse the artstyle with it not being violent, I dont get why people seeing the kids at the museum makes them say its a game suitable for kids…Anyway I saw it live at blizzcon love the artstyle and gameplay seems fun, Im not much of an FPS player(used to play a lot Unreal Tournament years ago) but when they are a little different I can enjoy them, like TF and this kinda reminds me of that but looks more polished and I like the art more, looking forward to it hope its a success.
I certainly wasn't expecting this to come out of Blizzcon.
Signed myself up for the beta, and really hoping I get in at some point… because this looks awesome.

There is no proof of anything that you said. Even in beta Blizzard explained that they would be selling card packs for Hearthstone and the development team is nowhere near MASSIVE. You have absolutely no idea what kind of impact Activision has had on Blizzard outside of whatever conspiracy you and the rest of the internet have come up with in your mind.
"lost some of it's soul" :getlost: my eyes can't roll far enough
Anyway this looks great. I love TF2 and i love MOBAs. I can't wait to play it.
I know from past experiences that I'm not going to actually play this game, but I really dig the character designs and overall aesthetics.
I wish the west could push out fighting games with this kind of style.

Granted most of what I said was tongue in cheek.
But you know what - it doesn't matter in the end what any of us think - WOW's numbers are declining which is to be expected after this long - They're expanding heavily into the micro-transaction area of gaming and haven't made a pure solo play game in decades. A lot of the core team - or members who were part of the explosion of WOW's popularity have departed to focus their efforts elsewhere.

Not really. WoW's subs are still staying 7-9 million (Higher at the start of a expansion), granted there was a time when they had over 12 million, but they are still two or three times as big as other mmo's. That's insanely good for any game let alone a sub based one.
Looks amazing <3
Apparently this is the remnants of Titan?
So this has technically been years in the making.
I am so onboard for playing as Mercy.
A fun multiplayer shooter with cool characters? Why not.^^
Winston and Reinhardt are totally for me! I'm about the tank life. WHat are you guys lookin' to play as :0
We've got 2 newly revealed characters and a new area.
Man, I wish this wasn't an FPS, I'd be all over it!
I like that Mcgree fella.
Remembers me Red Steel 2.
Holy hell this game is fun!
I'm in the weekend stress test and am having a blast. It's like Team Fortress 2 but with a shit ton more wacky diversity in character stuff.
Anybody else playing?
Oh wow, I wasn't even aware a stress test was happening. Thanks for the post.
Been wanting to play this since it was announced, so I'm installing it now.
I've never been interested in any FPS, but the open beta has me convinced! Day one purchase for me.
Just downloaded the Beta and I like it so far, will definitely be getting it

I don't think that I'll be getting it right now, I had some fun, but I'm pretty bad at it, and my friends won't play with me.
Awww.. Progression won't stick, so my 7 levels and 2 skins will go away once it's over. Oh well.

Bunch of faqs around.

Ohh that sucks but it is understandable, everybody should be on equal grounds, sort of.

There's also the sheer fact that its a beta. They'll be looking at the win/loss records and tweaking characters for balance accordingly.
Bastion is almost certainly going to need a little nerfing, the sheer firepower he gets from switching to stationary mode is way overpowered compared to that loss of movement… especially when doing defense on a base.

I haven't had that experience personally, because there's a lot of specific tactics that can destroy a stationary Bastion that a lot of bastion players don't quite know. For example, Genji can deflect all of Bastions bullets right back at him and decimate him instantly, which bastion can't really do anything against. Like, your only operation at that point is to…leave, or wait on team mate support.
Overall the game seems mega balanced which I think is mega cool The actual only character who seems genuinely doesn't have drawbacks is... Roadhog?! His worst asset is his reload/lack of bullets, but otherwise he's just a very fine all around character for his class. I think we'll have to wait that first month for all the hyper competitive people to really scope out what can and can't be dealt with. I'm sure there will be surprises.
Also I've been playing 99% exclusively as Mercy and it's been a blast... SHe's just so very satisfying.
I haven't played too much, but that was my general experience. If there's actual counters to him that's fine then.
I just wish it was more TPS than FPS. I know I know, FPS is better for precise aiming, and TPS gives too much advantage for peaking around walls and seeing behind you, (and PC players with a mouse are way better than anyone with a controller) but when there's this many characters with movement and positioning things it's just kinda weird to me.
But then I know other people have been playing FPS for decades and know what they're about, so I'll just have to trust that judgement. But overall I don't think Overwatch (Or Battleborn for that matter) is for me. WHich sucks cause I like the bright colors and characters and other people are having a lot of fun, but… oh well, that's just a me thing. I also have problems with Mirror's Edge and Portal due to motion sickness.
(And I played penty of Goldeneye back in the day and countless hours on ME3's multiplayer, so its not just an inherant dislike of shooters.)
That's okay! It's like… A competitive oriented game, one of those that feels designed for inevitable esports, and if I didn't always have five other friends to play with I probably wouldn't do it at all. It's hard to coordinate stuff like this with randos. When everyone in the call is always talking about what they're up to, it's much easier to feel comfy about it.
Some characters like Tracer or Winston don't need to worry since they're just intended to disrupt and harass people and can be semi-solo at times, and some characters like Mercy have actual visible UI promts that tell you where party members are or who needs healing (in fact this makes her by far the most accessible and fun healer I've ever played in something like this). There's so many different playstyles one of them might help you feel more like you have control over what you're doing and have more awareness on what's needed for your specific positioning.
But also like also. DOn't worry too much if you're just not having fun, thankfully it's a free beta!
Especially with Paragon coming (which is third person) and Paladins (which is free and from the Smite people) and who knows whatever else… there's more like it on the horizon.
And eventually in a year or two, Mass Effect 4 I guess.
Glad people are having fun with it though, it looks cool.
But yes, probably much better coordinating and building teams with actual friends than just randoms. I did like the healers quite a bit though.
I managed to play around 20 hours of the beta in those last days and the game is great! Too bad the dollar exchange rate is so high here and Blizzard is charging even more (it would cost 140, but Blizzard is charging 160 for it on Brazil), so it'll take a while until I get to play it again.
But I feel the heroes are balanced, they would need to just make some tweaks here and there. One thing that bothers me is the fact that some combinations are way too overpowered. I lost a match against 3 Mei, Lucio, Reinhardt and Hanzo and it wasn't that fun. I won a match playing as McCree with another two McCrees and we obliterated the other team. I wonder if Blizzard will end limiting heroes picks to one of each in competitive mode.
Also, I played it so much that I'm having trouble to go back to CS:GO.

I'm in the same boat. I can't stand FPS, I just don't enjoy them. Yet I love this world. I put money down so I could try out the beta, but I don't see myself actually having fun playing this game. It's such a shame, but I can't shake the feeling that these characters are wasted on what amounts to "random characters shoot at each other endlessly". I'd much rather there be some kind of actual story going on here. I had fun with Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, but that's because it revolved around a whole other game I cared about. (and wasn't First Person).
Yeah, I think Mass Effect struck a really good balance. It kept the camera just behind your shoulder, so you could make sense of positioning and movement, and still see your (customized!) character and where they're going and duck behind objects, but the camera wasn't so far back that you could see behind your or lose the elements of a shooter… (I think the key is the camera moves with whatever direction you're facing, rather than being rotatable around... Smite does the same thing) and you could focus aim with zooms and scopes and whatnot for when you do want the precision. I think it's a pretty good middleground and I don't know why more games don't go for it. I also really liked how the waves in ME worked. It wasn't infinite respawns, but pick your teammates back up, and it was always against computer so there was never any suffering against a human player that just had way better gear than you.
Lots of little things added up that I really liked. (and I guess having a connection to the races and power types from the story mode helped.)
Dunno why I was so okay with Goldeneye and Timesplitters back in the day. Maybe because it was so early on, or the graphics were chunky enough the movement didn't bother me... or they were designed for consoles rather than PC... or because it was almost always played in four player split screens. Something.
I get terribly nauseous with perfect dark, but overwatch didn't bother me at all. I dunno, maybe is that with PC I feel more in control of the camera and I don't fall prey to nausea.

There are going to be comics and animated shorts and stuff

Ehh I feel like it's the complete opposite in my opinion. If these characters weren't in it, it's like. Where's the draw. First person shooters aren't much in the field of having personality, so a competitive game where you genuinely care about the characters adds a ton to the experience so putting such a beautiful coating on what's mechanically a very solid game just increases its appeal. What game would you do with this cast? An RPG? There's tons of RPGs already with better casts and storylines than Street Fighter Stereotypes With Guns.
The fact that a strictly non-campaign multiplayer game has a great cast is nothing but like, added benefit with no drawbacks whatsoever. A lot of people would play Overwatch entirely because of the characters, whereas they'd never play it otherwise.
You don't need some cutscene driven narrative or story to be attached to characters. It's like having a favorite trading card making it your own solely based on its description or design. But if you aren't the kind of person that could see things that abstract, then well… it's your loss.
Also, there's the chance of a campaing later down the line, if they ever feel like it. That's gotta be easier than the multiplayer and balance.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Maybe a tutorial level for each character, like "defend this point" for the dwarf or bastion, or "keep your teammates alive" for the tanks and supports.
Overwatchh Vs. Machine?

There's no need to be that way. I already am attached to the characters, I just feel like there could be more to them than "random assortment of interesting characters shoot at other random assortment of interesting characters." Tho as mentioned there are animated shorts and I guess comics (I"ll have to check them out).
Not gonna lie, I admit to having a bias against FPS here as well.
We're up to four comics now and we got two more shorts coming in the next couple of weeks.
I have to admit I don't really play fps but I really enjoyed the open beta. Got to level 24 and had horrible loot box luck. Play the mystery brawl so I played pretty much everyone and enjoy pretty much all of them. I would say I had a big that was awesome with everyone.
Well I gave this game a try on its open beta and I have to say it's not worth the asking price ($80 Australian).
Also from online it seems many people are thinking the same that it's just not worth the asking price or more accurately - what they're asking for people are not willing to pay. I have a feeling this game is going to suffer a rather large drop off in players due to it's paywall. So you'll have matchmaking become harder and harder as players are mismatched in level just to get games running after a couple of months that Blizzard will have to come up with some ways to increase players.
My bet is first they'll try and entice their Hearthstone/WOW/SC/HOTS players into it with rewards for those games only accessible from Overwatch - when that doesn't work they'll offer it for a lower price which might attract those who chose not to at entry price. Then will come the Free to Play model.
For Free to Play they'll basically allow you to join matches but not choose your character (either rotating you when died or leaving you for the duration of the match) you'll still earn XP and level up your character to help with matchmaking but the Lootboxes you earned will be locked from you until you purchase the full version.
Granted this is all just conjecture and opinion but with all the other competitive shooters on the market even with Blizzard pushing it heavily on the E-Sports stage I don't think it's going to entice enough people from TF2, Counter Strike, COD for it to be classified as a success by their shareholders.
I wanna buy this game so bad but i don't have a pc good enough for it. Ungh need a new one.
What's everyones favorite character or will be interested in plaing when it comes out?
Personally hanzo and spider widow are the ones I'll be playing. I like long range shooters.
Any APers playing Overwatch?

In fact there are characters that need a lot of accuracy, such as attackers and snipers, but there are also characters with different weapons and characteristics so that they do not need too much accuracy. You'll definitely find characters that suits your type of play. But if you are playing with a controller like me or not so good at aiming, then you'll have hard time when choosing snipers and fast attackers. I don't know if you know, but it's a team game only, which means, you never do things on your own, but what a blast.
