or show's that should never be dubbed personally I haven't seen a badder serie's then this one but maybe that's because I haven't seen the original's
Dubs that are worse than one piece
-
-
This should be in Other Anime.
The worst dub? Well the original dub of DBZ was terrible, but at least they kept the original score.
And then there was CCS… -
could a mod come and move this thread then
-
The only dub worse than OP's is Cardcaptors.

And here's an obligatory sentence to pad out this post.

@Anime:
This should be in Other Anime.

And then there was CCS…Maybe, but the acting was very good. I guess Saban's DBZ was just a demonstration of how much effect acting and phrasing has on a translated show.
In response to the topic…I doubt any of the current dubs are worse that OP's. Perhaps older dubs, but a comparison with those kinds of edits (before people actually learned how to piece Japanese shows together) isn't really fair.
People often cite Cardcaptors as a poor dub, but I never really understood why; they edited out episodes and flow, but aside from that no "major," changes. Just a large number of annoying minor ones. Regardless, it wasn't a very good series, so I doubt the dubbers could do very much damage to it. ~.~;
Hmm, what else…oh, specify in your topic title. "Poorest dub by intention, or unintentionally"? Duel Masters, a blatant rip-off of Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh, has a deliberately funny, somewhat poor dub to make the show interesting. The puns, at least, are somewhat funny, as opposed to lame in OP. If Duel Masters didn't have the tongue-in-cheek dub, it wouldn't be popular; just boring. Tongue-in-cheek dubs sometimes works really well; take the cases of Duel Masters and Lupin III.

Episodes shown out of order, relationships destroyed, horrible voice acting.
Hell, one episode they forgot to put a title card in. The list goes on. Check those sites if you are interested.
-
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon's dub was pretty bad. But, specifically the first two seasons that Dic dubbed. It was horrible! There were name changes everywhere, they were inconsisten, the characters were seriously out-of-character, and there was crappy CGI everywhere!
-
When I said poorest dub I mean both intention and unintentionally It seem's that 4kid's is really trying to wreck one piece over here but since dub viewer's don't know about the real one piece it does'nt matter
-
Wait… I thought Duel Masters WAS Yu-Gi-Oh...

Horrible voice acting is debateable. A number of those actors are currently employed by VIZ in dubs that are not considered "poor" (Inuyasha).
Furthermore, Sakura was nine years old at the start of the series. She can't have any relationships outside of "friendship".
Episode order only really needs to apply to new powers or cards; if Sakura gained Yin and Yan at the end of the series, KidsWB would look pretty stupid showing them at the beginning. If Sakura employs the same three cards for a long time, and only shows them, order doesn't matter.
Consider Bleach. If there are no flashbacks, people should be able to shuffle any episode from the beginning to the "rescue Rukia," arc wihout any problems, because the episodes are stand alone, day-by-day basis kind of stuff.
The same applies to Sailor Moon, but not to Yu Yu Hakusho. SM had enough stand alone stuff to accomodate for mix-ups; YYK switched arcs quickly and couldn't accomodate.
-
Huh, this is a bit odd. I can't post my message. ~.~;
Yes you can.

Ten years old.
But I didn't mean just her. The realtionships involing the people around her are one of the things that holds the series together, and they were just ignored.

New powers and new cards are a good portion of the episodes. I had never even seen the Japanese version at the time, and I had to wonder what the hell was up.
I was wondering what was going on with Sakura having the Water card in one episode, then seeing her get it in the next episode.

I don't think they're intentionally thinking of ways to make it horrible, they're just not doing a very good job at not making it horrible.
And I'll move this.
-
Yes you can.
Moron. If I couldn't, I obviously didn't. -.-
The problem occured when posting after a quotation; the info box requested twenty characters, despite well more than twenty characters previously. I addressed two quotations, the latter of which had problems.
-
Dub's are getting better and better as long as their not done by 4kid's
-
Wait… I thought Duel Masters WAS Yu-Gi-Oh...
That's "Duel Monsters" x3
Oh, And I Think One Piece Is The Worse Dub. No Questions Asked x3
The Early Dragonball Dub Sucked Pretty Bad Though..
-
No way I liked that card captors dubbed.
-
Not a series, but I heard that before Disney dubbed it, there was a horrible dub of Nausicaa. 1/4 of the entire movie was cut, there were really bad dialouge edits and name changes.
-
I don't remember Cardcaptors all that much but I do remember growing up watching it, I think the last episode I saw of that is they were on some treehouse or something.
-
I would say Cardcaptors, because they not only made all the ridiculous and pointless changes, but they pretty much tried to change the main character. They took a magical girl show and tried to make it into something as gender neutral as Pokemon, and that just wasn't happening.
-

Yep, done by Roger Corman no less. I've never seen it, but with Corman involved, you just know that no expense was spared to ready the film for American audiences.
-
When doing regular conversations Cardcaptor wasn't bad (I remember a scene where Tomoyo told Sakura there was a kanji test that day, in dub it turned into spelling test, good translation) but they changed so much of nearly everything that the series was about that it gets handed the worst dub award.
For one they downplayed Sakura and tried to up-play Shaoran so that it looked more like a boys series. They tried to make it more boyish in general, concentrating more on the card battles and taking out nearly every cute thing in the series.
They fundamentally changed a lot of the characters. They completely skipped Tomoyo/Madison's loving devotion to Sakura, the relationship between their mothers, and also the relationship between Yuki and Toya, which was a HUGE part of the series. These relationships were a big part of the plot, and they were completely skipped.
Then we have the fact that only a fraction of the episodes were actually dubbed and aired.
So yeah, Cardcaptors the dub sucks.

Ah, who cares about the stupid ol Naausica movie.>=(
Funi's DBZ was pretty terrible…..but mostly because of the audio and script.
-
As I recall the Fox version of Escaflowne was pretty well butchered as well. They took out everything having to do with tarot cards (a HUGE part of the plot) and got rid of Yoko Kanno's opening song and replaced it with some pretty shoddily done techno.
Zephos– Some people care about the Nausicaa movie. If you're not one of them, fine, but don't comment on it.

Are you taking "stupid ol" seriously?
That was a purposefully immature comment. In fact I was more or less quoting young Scrooge from the Muppet Christmas Carol. A delightful romp through a Dickens Classic by way of talking puppets.
-
escaflowne was on fox when was this :molly:
-
It was a long, LONG time ago. Methinks that was something around five or six years ago, when Saban still ran Fox Kids and Digimon was in its first or second season.
-

It was kind of a "blink and you'll miss it" deal back in the late '90s, early '00s. Fox used to show quite a few anime shows even before 4Kids took over: Digimon, Flint The Time Detective, Moncolli Knights (or whatever it was called), and a few more that I can't quite recall. The Slayers of all things was also supposed to appear on Fox at around that time, but it never did show up. Possibly because of the massive crater that Escaflowne made when it hit the landscape; I don't think they even finished out a whole season of it before it was yanked.
Outside of something like the International Channel or another small channel, Escaflowne didn't make another appearance on American television until Adult Swim showed the movie a few weeks ago.
-
Hmmm I can only think of 5
Slayers
Yu-Gi-Oh
DragonBall Z (The New Dub)
DragonBall
Ranma 1/2 -
Slayers? I kind of liked that dub, even if I've only heard a few seconds while switching the language on the DVD, which I don't have anymore no thanks to my asshole older brother stealing it along with some of my other stuff for cigarette money.
-
the only problem I have with the dub is Lisa Ortiz doesn't even try to do
Megumi Hayashibara any justice and David Moo as Xellos, if you thought he was bad when he did Sanji's voice in One Piece you obviously have not seen the job he did with Xellos - THANK GOD FOR DUAL AUDIO TORRENTS. -
i dont see whats wrong with the dragonball z dub. the voice, yeah but they pretty kept everything much the same right?
the worst one is pokemon, i think the japaneese one is better but one piece is probably the worse, yu gi oh to, wait lets say all of 4kids dubs
-
I don't think your're someone who know the gist of why the DBZ Dub is bad
here are the highlightsMusic - the music in the dub is just beyond crappy some of it being bootleg rock or some techno garbage, they really f–--ed up the music during Gohan's SSJ 2 transformation
Cuts/Edits - What would a dub be without these two anything cut or edited in the dub involves nudity, extreme amounts of blood, death scenes etc
Name Changes - what can I say about the name changes that haven't already been said, Chaozu, Satan, Saiya-Jin, Ubuu,HELL,Brolly all gone
and either spelled differently and or pronounced stupidlyVA - Don't get me wrong the VA isn't that bad that is until you compare the VA with some the old english VA of certain characters like Piccolo, Recoome,GohanVegeta, Krillen etc and please don't compare the new or old english VA with the original the last I recall I don't remember Frieza sounding like a woman,Vegetto sounding so shitty, or Fat Buu having such a childish high pitched voice
Dialog - does
Tienshinhan's I can see their parachutes.
Krillen reciting lay me down to sleep.
Piccolo charging Nail rent to fuse with him despite the fact that it's permanent.
Jeice's gotta go gotta go gotta go right now goodbye to Goku after he beats
Recoome & Berta.
Give you a feeling of how bad the dialog is -
DBZ was okay, but the problem I had with it was the constant changes of voice actors for practically every series. Seriously the old VA's were good but later it just went downhill, and god does Bulma sound horrible in the Buu saga (not talking about the uncut funimation one).
-
Digimon 02 (particularly later). Not for the music (which is my usual excuse, but I hadn't yet developed that particular bias) but for too much bad dialogue. Constand and bad one liners and dialogue you had to knwo was not there originally. Grew to be rather annoying after a while (I think the company dubbing then even fired the guy largely responsible)
-
I dont think there is one worse then One Piece…..
-
Yu-Gi-Oh & One Piece are tied as the worsest dubs ever made in my opinion
