Just like last generation saw old games re-released on them (I also made such a thread relating to them http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=29904 ) history is repeating itself this gen, with several titles seeing a facelift and re-released on the new consoles. This is a thread to post news/speculation on such releases, post trailers and screenshots, and the general business.

I'm all for remasters, especially for games that I haven't already bought.

I'll be getting the Phoenix Wright Trilogy as well as The Last of Us remaster soon, seeing as I haven't played either yet. The Wind Waker HD was also a great improvement over the original, not only for visuals but for easing most tedious parts of the game. I can't imagine playing without a fast sail anymore.

I heard the Japan/Asia release is in November, and that the Asia version has dual language (basically detects your system language for what language to display text in). If so, then why is the NA versions slated for 2015?

Because Capcom, I dunno. Usually the RE games release here first, but not this time I guess. I dunno if the PS4/Xbox One versions release in Japan in November, I think they don't launch until we get them. Pretty sure Japan is only getting the PS3 and 360 versions in November.

True, I only see the last gen versions on Play-Asia. If it weren't for that, I'd probably be importing it. But might as well get this on PS4.

Would they show on PlayAsia? Japan is only getting the PS3 version as a physical release. This is pretty much a straight up digital release worldwide, but I guess Capcom figures they'll get some extra bank making the PS3 version also have a disc-release in Japan.

That's a good question. But interestingly, I looked at their weekly newsletter where they talked about the game. And they were talking about PS4 and Xbone as well. Dunno.

The only difference between the two versions is probably going to be the resolution. Which is weird since I imagine the PS3 and 360 should be able to run this game at 1080p 30 fps like the PS4 and Xbone since the majority of it is prerendered backgrounds. I think the difference is purely for marketing purposes.

Yeah, PS3/360 is 720p. PS4/Xbone/PC is 1080p. Every version will be locked at 30fps tho, no official 60fps in any version.

Lol, the game should easily run in 60 frames, but it isn't ultimately that important for that game I guess.

It would be able to if the game wasn't coded where calculations are tied to the framerate.

Yeah, and as slow as the characters move it wouldn't be noticable like in some other more dynamic games anyway. I am actually excited to play this game for the first time, since the only resident evil game I've played through was the 4th one.

I won't be surprised if we get a Final Fantasy XIII Collection soon. It'd seem right up Square's alley to re-release the Lightning Trilogy on PS4 and Xbone. Also just yesterday Square-Enix added both a Steam logo on the Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy page as well as PC as a platform, which they quickly removed (I think the Steam logo might still be there tho). I say it's quite likely. I own the first 2 on PS3, only played a bit of the first one and XIII-2 is one of two (the second being RAGE) games I own which I never took out of the wrapping.

Well, there it is. No ps4/xbone release but FFXIII is launching on Steam for $16. XIII-2 and LR will follow soon.

It's a PC game. You remaster it yourself with the graphical settings.

There were PS4 and Xbone logos at the bottom though. There was also a logo for some streaming thing though which is kind of worrying as it might mean it's just going to be n OnLive-ish thing and not actually going to be running on these platforms. Anyway, given that it's a pretty late port from consoles I doubt there will be very many upgrades to take advantage of. I wouldn't be surprised if it was locked in resolution and framerate either.

I can't imagine them locking the resolution down, at the very least it'll allow up to 1080p. Framerate tho… possible. Besides, even if it's lacking graphical options doesn't mean you can't force some with your graphic cards control panel (but that can cause issues).

I didn't imagine any game would lock down resolution either until Dark Souls came out. And there's been a few games after it that did the same thing. And you can't force better models, textures, shadows, etc in your control panel.

I'm not saying you could, merely higher anti-aliasing and texture filtering and stuff if the PC port lacked such settings.

Also, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will be full price. Damn Square, it looks really fucking good but… c'mon.

They're helping out Nintendo by indirectly convincing them further not to localize Mother 1 or 3 in anyway for western countries?

I picked up Tomb Raider and The Last of Us remasters for the PS4. Unfortunately I can't compare the different versions having owned nothing other than a Nintendo system for the past two years, but they both look great to my native eye. The Last of Us though… what a game. The

is an excellent addition, having tested out the 30 FPS mode from the option menu. Both are definitely worth it, especially if your like me and hadn't experienced either game prior.

Also, I can't wait to pick this bad boy up.

WELP.

Final Fantasy XIII just released on Steam. The game is locked at 720p and has no graphical options. It seems the only difference between it and the 4 year old console versions is the gameplay is in 60fps (it's also locked to not go higher and the cutscenes were not re-rendered so they are 30fps).

GAF user Durante is on the case. He's a guy who in the past has managed to unlock things like resolutions in games.

EDIT: The cutscenes show some compression making them worse quality than the PS3 version. Wow, SE really fucked this up.

Yep. Not really unexpected. I don't know why you would preorder a multiple year late console port and think there wasn't going to be any issues.

Well people expected because it took this long to release a PC version that it was at least going to be updated. Especially considering past S-E PC releases have had the standard options, like The Last Remnant. I don't think it's unjust for people to expect a PC game to have resolution, anti-aliasing, and filtering settings.

And yeah, there's definitely some compression going on but not 360 levels of bad. The PS3 version is 40gb, the steam version is 50gb. However they have double the cutscenes as it includes the cutscenes lipsynced to both English and Japanese audio, the PS3 version only had one language.

I just think people should be wary because a lot of these ports are blatant cashgrabs with very little work put into them.

I don't know if I really like that he's doing this. All it shows is that devs can release broken games on PC and let other people do their jobs for them. This is the third game that's been locked at 720p

I just recently got a Wiiu, and currently playing through Duck Tales Remastered. I'm really enjoying it so far. The voice acting really helps the nostalgia.

I'm actually seeing people complaining about poor performance in FFXIII on PC with high end cards. Apparently someone did some looking around and found out that the game uses so little resources (partly because it's locked at 720p) that the GPU isn't aware that there's a game running and so is running power saving mode, resulting in poor performance in the game. That's both hilarious and sad at the same time.

Does turning your computer to High Performance (what it should always be) fix that?

Yeah, there are multiple ways of fixing it but it's still funny. People on the Steam forums were saying to force 8x ssaa or run another game in the background.

Played God of War 3 three times. Beautuful game. Fantastic boss battles.

Right before the boss battle there was this area where you fight a number of enemies. One of them is a large chimera. I struggled like hell there. Managed to win because I leveled up whatever I had to do to have powerful Gorgons eyes.

I have fond memories of the GOW 3 such as getting stuck on a part with Satyrs and another part where you had to fight Cerberuses and Satyrs.

I imagine this might be just a port of the PC version that came out a while back. I guess it's a good thing Sony didn't include backwards compatibility so devs can make so much money with "remasters".

The Nathan Drake Collection on PS4 is pretty nice. Admittedly, I mostly bought it for the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta access, but the remaster job is quite nice. I've only played a bit, and you can tell that they are old games, but they look miles better than they ever have, and the controls seem to have been tightened a bit as well. If you already own the Uncharted games and aren't particularly interested in beta access, I'd say it probably isn't the best use of $50 ($42 on Amazon). But it will definitely be worth having in the long run if you like the games as much as I do and often get the wild hair that makes you want to run through the whole series.

Dead Rising 1 is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbone. DR2 and DR2 Off the Record (not sure what the difference between the two are) are coming to PS4 and Xbone.

Really the only remaster I care about so far, Dead Rising 1. I played it a bit on the 360 when it first came out but never got that far so it's nice to be able to play it on PC finally.

Off The Record let's you play a somewhat more twisted version of 2's story but with Frank West as the protagonist and some of 2's cast as enemies. @Sakonosolo:
