Resident Evil HD REReleases

Well, I'll be…

"Nobody seems to like our latest outing while they remember the original… so fuck it, let's give them the original AGAIN."
So is this Resident Evil REmake REmastered HD Ultra Mega Turbo with a cherry on top?
-
I just hope they finally put the dumb umbrella story and all the characters to rest and just reboot the damn franchise with resi 7. 4 was fantastic, 5 meh and 6 just crap.
-
No Wii U so i don't care. Shame cause the original remake was a Gamecube exclusive wasn't it?

Gamecube exclusive til it was brought over to the Wii so I guess they figure you can still have some access to it
-
This is actually really cool and I hope they add bonus content too. But it'll be immensely interesting to see the feedback to allowing "modern" control schemes for the game where the direction you press is the direction you move. Inb4 "but the perspective changed and I ran sideways straight into a zombie!!"
-
Now all they need to do is release Outbreak HD.
-
People aren't happy that the backgrounds are upscaled instead of re-rendered and the 16:9 support merely lops off the top and bottom of the screen, but they had no choice. They made this game over 12 years ago during a time when saving the master assets wasn't a thing. The upscaled backgrounds and textures look noticeably better than Dolphin upscaling the original so I don't see the problem. Plus you have the option to use 4:3 and the oldschool controls at a flip of a switch.
-
well its something at least, hopefully this will lead into an eventual RE2 remake.
-
Cool, now I actually might play this game for the first time ever.^^ Never had the chance or just didn't get to it before. Resi 4 was my first ever resident evil game and it was amazing. So I am curious to experience how the original played.
-
Since I knew HD was a thing, I have wanted HD versions of this and RE0. One down!!!!
-
I understand it would have been a lot of work but it would have been cooler if they made the environments 3D rather than do whatever method they're doing now. Probably another game locked at 1080p on PC too. I think people would appreciate a new Resident Evil game in the style of the original with modern techniques rather than rereleasing the first game again while keeping the limitations of 1996 or 2003 or whatever they're saying.
Also Capcom owns Dragon's Dogma too right? People on PC would prefer a port of Dragon's Dogma I'm sure over all the stuff they've been doing recently.
-
I've always wanted to replay the first three Games but never downloaded them so it's a good thing and I hope that'll lead to remakes of RE2 and RE3
-
And we would also like a dragon's dogma 2.^^
-
I just hope they finally put the dumb umbrella story
Canonically speaking Umbrella's been out of the picture since Nemesis.
@Purple:
"Nobody seems to like our latest outing while they remember the original… so fuck it, let's give them the original AGAIN."
They've gotten tired of rereleasing Megaman games now it's back to rereleasing Resident Evil.
@Venomous:

12 years I've waited for this and I'm willing to wait 12 years more.

Wow I need to get from underneath this rock I'm under:ninja:.
I actually thought the PC already had a port of DD, weird.
-
But yeah, anyone who wants to denounce this release and call it a lazy upscale:
We done.
Also the cropping is pan-cropping, which means the cropped parts of the image scrolls dependant of your character. So you're not even losing chunks of the background, there's just less of it on screen at any given moment.
-
That… looks really good.
-
This. Just… THIS.
-
More footage:
-
I pre-ordered it on PSN since it entitles me to both the PS3 and PS4 versions. Not that I need both. Pretty excited about this. I wonder if I can still do the grenade dupe trick >:3
-
As excited as I am for this (which is quite a lot, as it's literally my favorite video game ever made), I think this may excite me even more:
This is a shot of the PS4 theme you get for pre-ordering. Some enterprising Capcom employee saw fit to have an unexplained 'Biohazard 0' icon just hanging about. If this actually means that game is getting an HD remaster too, I may be unable to contain my excitement.
-
I think I even like RE0 more than RE1 so that would be so freaking cool. Hell, the only decent Leech Hunter walkthrough was written by me XD.

Let us regale in Foolio's past as an FAQ writer

-
A couple of years ago I actually replayed the game. So I used my own guide. And I was like damn, that's a good guide.
-
Hey Fool, looks like your hardcore leech hunting guide might come in handy in early 2016
-
Yay! Good old adventures with Rebecca and Billy!
I'm really hoping this sudden love for Generation 2 Resident Evil leads to an Outbreak HD. Might be impossible, but I'll cling to whatever hope there is.
-
Hell yes! I can't wait to play a visually updated RE0. And then use my own guide. I still think I might overall prefer Zero over the REmaster, which is an unpopular opinion I know but still. This is awesome news.
-
This is my favorite of the classic RE titles (tied with REmake). I can't begin to say how excited I am for it, so I won't even bother!
-
I've always liked the co-op setting of both characters that you control. Utilizing their weapons and their inventories to plan things out. It was really innovative for the game, though I know a lot of people hated it.
-
Glad they are remastering this. I don't understand the hate for this game, and knowing that some of you find this the best is good to hear. This game had the best atmosphere in the series IMO, even though the last part wasn't good to me.
It's gonna be a long wait, and I hope after this they remaster Outbreak. -
-
Oh for pity sakes, just remake 2 already Capcom!
-
Better late than never

Hey maybe I'll finally actually end up playing RE2 now XD. Still hyped about 0 though.
-
Zero was so massively meh. It started out fine, but then the story never paid off.
But RE2 in HD is something i'm really looking forward to. Second best game in the series.
-
When does the story in a Resident Evil game ever pay off? Every single one I can think of is ridiculous or pretty much non-existent. It's entirely about the gameplay and atmosphere, and I think RE0 is up at the top. The partner system and related puzzles, as well as inventory management, were really well handled.

I thought every entry except for Zero and maybe 3 had enough meat on their story bones to keep my interest. Zero's big problem for me was that it lacked characters. I mean we had Marcus who despite his design was interesting enough, but had nobody to interact with. Steve's backstory. And two or so clips with Wesker and Birkin. I can't remember much more than that happening.

There i can't say much. I thought the gameplay was fine enough, but the enemies were largely meh.
Big scorpion, big monkey, big bat. Not all that exciting. But that is really just my personal taste

The inventory system was absolutely a step up from the old one.
But i think the partner system is terrible. Not just in zero, just an over the board terrible idea.
Atleast in RE4 the burden was kidnapped most of the time, or wiling to be stuffed in a dumpster

Sounds about the same as RE1 to me. You have a couple of characters who pop in every long while to say something to you, and that's it. RE4 had a few (over the top) villain monologues and I guess a couple guest visits by Luis. Code Veronica had even less. Overall I just would never characterize the series as story-driven. There has to be someone/something behind mysterious evil happenings, and you chase them, maybe throw in a dubious NPC and some cameos, and that's it. Most things get pieced together through the files and clues you find by exploring. I mean, I guess RE2 kind of tried, and it's not my most familiar game, but still.

I mean, RE1 had a big snake (twice), a big spider, a big shark, a big plant. Thematically the animal experimentation thing is consistent. Though there is no big monkey in RE0, just regular scary-ass zombie ones. And things like the Tyrant are just recurring series baddies. IMO the only noteworthy addition in RE2 is Lickers. Those fuckers. But I do think Leech Zombies were a pretty fantastic enemy in RE0.

In RE4 you have no control over Ashley (except for the short segment where you, um, control her. But that was just so you could stare at her ass). In RE0 you have full control over both characters. Not only can you switch between them at will but you can maneuver your partner character with the second analog stick. You manage their inventories, their positions, and whether or not the AI should even try to shoot at enemies for the character you aren't controlling. So the strategic elements just increase. Do you go into a room alone, or with both? Who carries what? Not to mention the puzzle potential it created (and utilized).
You can even do cool things like say, leave Rebecca behind then dodge enemies through a hallway with Billy and go into a room. On your way out with Billy after finishing in the room, instead of dodging enemies all the way back, enter the hall with Billy, switch to Rebecca and enter the hall with her from the other end, set Billy to follow you and then U-turn and exit with Rebecca. Billy will automatically be with you. In other words, you can use sneaky tactics to reduce your risk exposure based on how you manage the characters.
For story purposes yeah sometimes you get separated, which gives you a refreshing segment alone, and you may have to save the other character but not in a shitty escort mission type of way. That's the main thing. It's not a shitty co-op mechanic, and it's definitely not a shitty escort mission mechanic. Full player control.

I though RE1 had a lot going on in it. What with Wesker being the bad guy all along and all that came with it, Barry being all shades of suspicious, how Rebecca just stumbles into the picture at one point, and then there's the whole Trevor family drama going on (especially in the remake)
But RE4 was absolutely packed with fun characters and interaction. For one thing the (many, many) villains seem to have you on speed dial for most of the game, and when they aren't calling or appearing in story advancing cutscenes you've got Ada, Luis, Ingrid, Ashley and the merchant to interact with. There's almost always something happening in that game.

Yeah too bad that they had pretty much ran out of good ones by the time zero came around though.
The leeches were amazing though. I wouldn't mind seeing those again.

I suppose it does bring variety. But it's just not a good fit for a survival horror game. IMO of course.
At best i find it annoying, at worst i find it moodbreaking to have another character with you.
-
Different strokes for different folks I guess! Of the actual Survival Horror RE entries (excluding 4 and beyond), I would probably rank 0 first due to the game mechanics. REmake and CV:X are not far behind. 2 and 3 never captivated me the same way but I also have little experience with them.
4 is a fantastic game as well, it's just not comparable to the earlier entries since it's structured as a much longer and much more linear action-based game. I even enjoyed 5 quite a bit, for what it was. 6 I will puke at the sight of (I somehow managed to complete all the campaigns once though). And the Revelations games are whatever. Sorta decent attempt to go back to an earlier style I guess?
-
RE3 was definetely a mixed bag. Nemsis was terrifying, and it was a fun new take on it.
But it also felt very short and side-questy. But maybe that was just because it took place in the same place as RE2.
Personally i felt Code Veronica was more of a proper sequal in the franchise than RE3 was.
