He appears to be a stage hazzard. He breaks the platform when he hits it with his head, which is not something a support character can do.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
One Piece: Super Grand Battle! for Nintendo 3DS (2014)

Now that I think about it, I believe you're correct. Playable/Support characters do usually appear in the stage whenever they're not participating in battle, but never as a stage hazard. With 85 character in the game, it's hard to believe that a relatively important character like Chinjao would not be included, but I guess we have to wait and see.

So, wanna place bets on how much the game will adapt from the manga ? I'm expecting the story and movesets of the characters to go to at least chapter 758. This is based on the fact that Gigant Battle 2 went as far as chapter 636, which was released in August 29th 2011, around two months prior to the game's release in November 12th. If we assumed this game will have a similar time-frame, I believe having content from chapter 758, released in August 28th 2014, is reasonable considering the game will be released around two months from that date. I'm still hoping they include the new moves Doffy showed in the last 2 chapters, but I can live without them if neccessory.
-
I have the feeling that this series is just gonna be like the Gigant Battle one; meaning that the first game will just be a raw, sketch-y version of the second game.
-
I hope that's not the case.
-
-
Looking forward to that new Trailer at TGS. Still waiting for that localization announcement.
-
no jump scan this week?
-
no jump scan this week?
Nope. I have the book and nothing just Naruto, Prince of Tennis and Dragon Ball Heroes.
There's a scan showing off a I guess new Lucy figure.
Also I have a friend going to TGS you guys got any questions for this game in case there's a Namco representative there?
-
Not really; but if your friend could film while someone plays the demo…it would be nice.

Most likely will be the case if they allow him to.
Pictures and notes will be taken though.
-
I'm already grateful to both.
-
Ask about the localization of course. Also, I would like to know whether the game will have DLC or not, like DLC characters maybe. Finally, maybe he could ask about how much of the story will be adapted into the game. If he can ask some of these questions, I'd be very grateful.

So in an attempt to spark interest in some discussions as we wait for more news, how about we talk tiers ?
I've been playing a lot of Gigant Battle 2 recently, and I've came to form (again) my list of the top characters in the game. The best characters in the game in my opinion are:
S Tier:
01. Doflamingo
02. Blackbeard
03. ShanksA Tier:
04. Akainu
05. TS Luffy
06. Vander Decken
07. Mihawk
08. MarcoB Tier:
09. Crocodile
10. Ace
11. Buggy
12. Shiki
13. Law
14. Kuma
15. Magellan
16. Aokiji
17. Kizaru(The bolded characters are the one confirmed to return in SGBX)
And the rest I don't really care for. So my question is, who do you think were the top tier characters in Gigant Battle 2, and do you think they will be top tier again, after moveset changes, in Super Grand Battle X ?
I believe both Law and TS Luffy will move up, with new moves introduced, and for being the two main characters of the arc. Doffy will remain top tier, as he tends to be in most Ganbarion-made games, with new moves that will make him even more dangerous than he was in GB2 (he's pretty much broken in UWR). Shanks and Blackbeard I think will remain unchanged, or will get very few changes that won't be enough to change their standing in my tier list.
So what are your thoughts ?
-
I'm really afraid that this game won't have enough characters.
It's somehow close to the release date, less than 2 months now… If I were to guess I think the remaining characters are Boa, Jimbei, Kinemon, Lucy (with the gladiator outfit, like jesus, what a waste), Aokiji (or should I say kuzan from now on), smoker, ceasar and mihawk.
And maybe crocodile, buggy and vivi... or monet ant vergo. I really think they will focus on the current characters.
Since its on the 3ds, maybe it gets different outfits and DLC characters, wich sucks but it would improve the game duration.

Some screenshots from the game's Twitter:
Edit: Ganbarion opened a new blog for the game

USOOOOOOPP spell

Man, that's awesome.

Hum…I wonder, why does every fighting game use a time counter to indicate the absence of time limit ?

Why didn't come Onepiece super grandbattle X informations in TGS2014???
I hope to see the new trailer and demo play videos.

_Watch here the TGS live, maybe they'll show something

My friend may go tomorrow to get footage of the demo. He's been having family emergencies but good news is I got 3-4 scans for Grand Battle.

Does anyone have any idea when we will get another preview trailer?

Wasn't there a playable demo today or yesterday in Japan? Is there any gameplay on the web?

LoL those two dudes are really fun. But what is the thing with masks ? -
By the way, the official website have been updated with the "confirmation" of Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook.
-
Sounds like it's the same music from gigant battle 2 on the roger and whitebeard meeting stage. Kinda disappointing
-
Brook is looking great in the demo.
-
Brook is looking great in the demo.
I hated brook in gigant battle 2, but he looks pretty cool in this game.
-
So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing.
-
Yeah, good stuff.
-
why I can't see the demo TT_TT

Whitebeard looks veeery slow, but when that special hit…shit, almost 70% of Ace's HP went away!
Usopp can be a pain in the ass, by what we've seen...and so can Zoro (talk about spamming attacks).
Sanji is cool, but not as fast as before. Ace is pretty much the same (not a favorite of mine).
Apparently, they are respecting the h4x-ness of the Ope Ope no Mi...the Room's area in the game is quite big. Such a shame that I don't think that his other moves are appealing...they could do better.
Luffy is pretty much the same, too...but I got the feeling that his range was somehow shorter (specially after seeing the Fire Hawk). Gomu Gomu no UFO looks adorable, haha.
Nami appears to have a better movepool than the previous game (which is not a big deal), but we didn't had much of her.
The game looks adorable. Ganbarion always had a special attention to details, and this time they put it together with a really cool, flashy and beautiful art. The items variety looks great too, and the idea of the Special X(?) that takes the player out of the stage to aim at his adversaries (like in Bomberman) is pretty cool as well. I'm looking at it with much more excitement now!
P.s.: relieved that Bepo isn't playable (at least for now). Rayleigh is enough as a character with an invented-and-therefoe-pretty-repetitive movepool.
-
Ganbarion games are the only ones where I don't mind characters with original movesets. They understand One Piece so well that in most cases the character's actual powers in the manga ends up being very similar to what Ganbarion made. They might contact Oda for that kind of stuff, but I doubt it. With that being said, I'm still not sure about Rayleigh being playable, as I can't see how they can differentiate him enough from Shanks, to justify his inclusion. However, I still trust Ganbarion, and I'm looking forward for the game. If only they could announce a localization.

After watching the video, I can honestly say that this game looks gorgeous. Not only that, the music is also great. I'm gonna be listening to that Coliseum theme for a long time. The gameplay is very fast paced, with some Super Smash Bros. mechanics thrown in. It seems that now you can pick up other people, and if I'm not mistaken, there seems to be trophy-like items that you can pick up to summon a support character.
Character-wise, a lot of the returning characters saw some changes. Whitebeard, while slower in movement speed, has much faster attacks, especially his air quake punch that now comes out instantly and has insane range. Ace has a lot of his old moves changed to different properties, especially his Shinka Shiranui attack that now comes out insanely fast (even one of the guys playing commented on it), and his Hidaruma attack seems like a special attack now. Luffy has newer attacks , but with a shorter range it seems, maybe to compensate for his increased speed. Law's room has an impressive size, with his Tact special being pretty much unavoidable if you were anywhere near him, otherwise his moves seemed unchanged. Brook probably saw the greatest alterations to his moveset. Now he's faster and less floaty, with a lot of instant attacks, and a very good special.
All in all, this game looks amazing. The only thing left for the game to be pretty much perfect, is to feature a large number of playable characters. Anything more than 40 characters would be unbelievable. I really hope for Ganbarion to deliver with this game. I'm sure the next one will be even better, but that's no reason for them to skimp on the content with this one.

Something I noticed. Why isn't Bepo in his black jumpsuit from the time-skip ? That looks much cooler than his older look.
-
Those two reminds me a lot Kishi and Kubo.
-
@OPR:

Yeah! I was really surprised by that but hadn't figured how it was supposed to work out yet! I noticed that Franky and Shiki made appearances out of nowhere and delivered one attack each…maybe it is something like a trophy system, and maybe the source of it was that news pages that kept falling of the sky.

Yes, since the page featured Buggy's Jolly Roger, I guess it's the "super support" sytem that was featured in a scan three weeks ago. (the scan with Ucy)

Everybody was wearing black in that color spread, so it could very well have been an one-time deal.

Good catch, I didn't notice them myself. Fingers crossed for a good number of playable characters, as so far we have more than a few weird choices thrown in (e.g. Rayleigh, Burgess, Tashigi), cause if we lost some of the essential playable characters for those, it would be a shame.

I was hoping something about the localization would come out of TGS. A comment like "We're considering it" or "Stay tuned for future announcements" would've been great, but no such luck it seems.
-
LoL didn't notice Smoker and Tashigi, but I saw Toy Soldier, Koala, Cavendish, Cariboo, Rebecca, Sugar and Pica. Probably only as supports. Still great.
Though Pica is really big, he might be part of the background. -
Oh yeah. Yay trashing is playable. It's also worth noting that in the support and item part it specifically mentions koala and kid as support and icy as an item but doesn't mention chin jao, Rebecca or cavendish. We know that cavendish is playable as well and the fact it mentions kid and koala probably means there not. But this means chin jao and Rebecca could be playable. That would be cool.
-
Though Pica is really big, he might be part of the background.
I don't think so, we''ve seen him in two stages, the Factory and the Tontatta Kingdom. I can understand why we see him on the background of the SMILE Factory, but not in the dwarves country.
And who's Rebecca fighting on the picture ? Could it be Pica ? Either the supports can fight each others, or Rebecca is playable. (Edit: she's hitting Trebol, so she might be just a support for now)

The game Twitter page have just confirmed Buggy as a playable character:
