@Yacht:
A late night well spent! Development on Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows is now complete. Time for some rest…
@Yacht:
We'll have more news soon! Thanks all for staying tuned and showing support! The final details of polish and fixes are always a huge deal.
Also, it'll be playable at Gamescom, so we'll probably be seeing some videos showing up online soon.
Bumping this just to say Plague Knight's gameplay is just ridiculously "chaotic". Plenty of deaths already just by flying across the screen and bumping into things (at least for me). Though it definintely feels a tad bit more like metroidvania games due to equipping skills and weapons best suited for bosses and ocassions. Also it's quite interesting how often I end up committing suicide just to collect the green coins to invest in research. It's a ton of fun mixing up skills and seeing what works.
Overall, it feels like a completely new experience which is pretty awesome. Definintely worth the wait and I'm totally hyped to see which character Yacht Club will be working on next (crossing fingers for King Knight His gameplay should be remarkably interesting).
If we get another knight to play my vote is for tinker knight.
I need a shovel gundam.
Really wana play all of this. Played a couple of levels on someone else's Steam account, but for me, I'm gonna get a physical version for the Wii U when it hits.
I wonder if they'll do an Amiibo bundle
I really am not liking this plague night dlc. I understand why they did nothing to the level design but it was the wrong choice. Plague knight plays very differently to shovel knight and some of the level design should have been changed to accompany this. It has been more frustrating to play than fun.

Playing the first stage back to back, I'm PRETTY sure they changed a lot of the level designs to accomodate for PK's wackier jumping skills. For example, I noticed they got rid of a lot of remarkably "narrow" platforms (usually the smaller ones that require more careful platforming for Shovel Knight). There would be no way for PK to make those so it seems like they got rid of them (thankfully). Not to mention they lowered a number platforms to make it accessible. Though, that is not to say there aren't some INCREDIBLY difficult jumps top pull off which is why I end up ditching a lot of sacks of gold (happens occassionaly with a number of pitfalls with Shovel Knight) after dying.
PS: I find the platforming segments get much easier once you get that one upgrade that allows you to drift slowly after ding the jump boost.

There was a vote amongst backer, and the other two playable boss campaigns are king knight and specter knight. And based on the ending of plague of shadows, I think I know who is probably next

They changed a TON of stuff actually, altering platforms and changing some enemy locations, and added in hidden passages and things. Play them back to back and its a lot easier to notice. It's overall like 90% the same, so if you aren't comparing them side by side its an easy assumption to make that nothing has changed… but they changed just enough to accommodate the different playstyle and have it be fun and interesting.
And once you get the hang of PK its great, it's just really, really different in style. He's gonna be a blast to speedrun with once its more comfortable and better at holding and restraining charges for insane air leaps. Once you get the hang of charging your blast jumps and getting some real versatility out of the triple jumps (including tricks to make it an ocassional quadruple jump) its a blast.
The entire fun of it is playing the same game with a totally different character. Because some of the old super easy bits are now crazy hard to do... but some of the old hard bits are really easy. In particular PK has an easier time with a lot of the mid bosses and bosses due to being able to shoot at a distance and at angles
what robby said. and aww. i want tinker knight. :<
Played around with it a little bit, but wasn't completely invested. I'm more looking forward to the complete genderswap, tbh
Just finished Plague of Shadows and gotta say, he is a fun character to play. Of course he was hard to control at first, but like someone already said, it gets much easier with the drift jump. Loved seeing another side of rhe townsfolks characters when dealing with PK, not to mention all the belittling he got from his former Ordermates.
Story spoilers:
! i do find his want for the potion just to win Mona over, but you know their little scenes between essence collecting were sweet and added another layer to the otherwise confident and megalomaniacal laughter.
! In a sense, this was a journey for Plague Knight to realize he doesn't always have to act like a know it all all the time and just trust others that they would accept him for what he is like Mona already did, a sweet cinnamon roll to pure for this earth who loves explosions~
I had fun with it. I really enjoyed his maneuverability and just wish there was at least one unique level made with that first in mind. It's cool that we got the alternate paths, though. I really liked the bomb system and had fun crafting certain combos to deal best with certain platforming sections or bosses.
As for the story:
! It gets a huge ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh from me. I would have been more fine with no story, to be honest. I know this game isn't supposed to be pushing any story boundaries or anything, but I found it a little insulting that the two female characters in the game were both potential love interests for Plague Knight and really served no other purpose in the plot. The fact that PK was making his potion to admit his feelings was so sappy that it kind of hurt to read through, especially since I think it sort of drags down a potentially interesting character.
Just got started on this today, and I gotta say, it feels really super strange using him. Like, I enjoy the jumping over everything with epic burst, but all that glorious momentum is very quickly halted by things like enemies or platforms that are still obviously placed with shovel knight in mind.
Sure, it adds a new level of challenge and makes it interesting to go through stages, but it doesn't feel pleasant in the same way I kept wanting to go back to Shovel Knight to blaze through.
I'm loving it so far, though it's kinda hard to get further considering I'm alternating between this & Super Mario Maker, among other games…
Plague Knight is awesome to play as once you get used to his playstyle, and I'm loving the combination style with his bombs. Just beat Specter Knight recently and I'm going to crown King Knight next... Keep the DLC coming, it's amazing!! :)

! Yeah, I do have to agree with you there. As much as I loved Mona's personality, it was pretty painful to watch the misunderstanding scene with Black Knight because it was so cliche. The Magicist kinda fell into obscurity for me when i maxed out my mana gage seeng as Baz gives you 5 free health potions when you recruit him.
! All in all, it could have been better, but I am a sucker for schmaltz and that kinda made it better.
! Anyway, onto another issue. Considering Specter Knight is one of the DLC playable characters, I wonder if that whole locket scene will play into his story…
I think I'm just a boring person: I sped through getting the Cipher coins to get all the upgrades and settled on Float Burst, Bounce Casing (switched to Lob for Propeller Knight and Black Knight 3), Component Powder and Impact Fuse for most of the game.
! Did it bother anyone else that Shield Knight wasn't with Shovel Knight during the Wandering Travelers scene in the credits?
Shovel Knight is on steam sale right now for 10$. That includes the Plague Knight expansion, and will include the two future DLC characters for free.
If you haven't gotten it already, for cripes sake, get it now.
We got a new update on the status of Specter Knight, etc http://yachtclubgames.com/2016/06/the-return-of-specter-knight-and-a-revitalizing-announcement/
This game… goddamn I wish that they'd charge me as a non backer for the added campaigns.
I guess what I'll do is gift away a copy to my clueless:ninja: friends when the next campaign hits.

So which dead franchise will Yacht Club honor next?

Samus with Galactic Knight would be great, and a new level where the only enemies are the federation forces
Paper Shovel Knight RPG please
"A Mario RPG," if they think they've got the writing chops for it ;)
Otherwise, a Metroid, please. Original Shovel Knight was close enough to Mega Man to satisfy that itch.
My thinking is that there's a bunch of metroidvanias and mega man's and such games out there, so I immediately voted for Mario rpg since it's a more rare thing for an indie company to go for as far as I know.
Gimme that Shovel knight RPG, Paper Mario: Color Splash is not going cut it for me.
Yeah, a Mario RPG is the only genre that any indie developer team didn't made it until now.
I think there was a Contra somewhere, but dunno.
Shield Knight VN or bust. I want to date all the cute Knights. xD
It's time to bring this thread back into the light:
Really interested to see at what seem to be hints of more world-building and characterization. Probably what has me most excited. Also some cool mechanics in there.
Not sure if this is spoilers but
! Shield Knight! Yes!

Yessss please. Plague of Shadows was excellent, and this looks like a much more extensive addition than that. New movesets for the bosses!
I can't say it enough how much I respect and adore this game, I'd even be ok to be charged a bit extra for that update/expansion as a non backer.
Yacht Club talking about how they went about designing the body swap versions of the characters:
http://www.polygon.com/2017/2/28/14752908/shovel-knight-body-swap-gender
those options are actually quite excellent. You might even be able to call it (one of?) the first genderfluid games out there
The new Shovel Knight expansion is now out. And holy crap there's a lot.
Aside from the basically brand new game Spectre of Torment which is a whole new character and campaign, they also added co-op and gender swap modes and a chunk of other stuff. And if you already own the game the updates are all free.
Sooo much goodies. Gonna be playing this later.
(For the PC version right now. The console updates will be later in the month apparently.)
Spectre Knight wasn't as hard to control as Plague Knight when first trying him out. I love how swooshy he is.
You also get really good at maneuvering him when you've played the damn tower climbing minigame for over 3 hours trying to get the achievement.
Definitely should've gotten the time slowing curio and floaty hover curio before I did that.
Nggggghh when on PSN? WHEEEENNNNNN
@Daz:
Nggggghh when on PSN? WHEEEENNNNNN
"Sometime in April" is what they've given us for release dates on all the other systems. They're in the bug fixing stage so… not long.
I find fighting bosses as Specter Knight kind of… simple? I'm just spamming attack to scythe dash with the occasional wisp being snacked on.

! She has sprites for fighting now Yacht Club. This better be rectified for King Knight's end credits
So that happened
Arin reacting to it makes it even better, lol.
The next game fromt he Shovel Knight guys is coming (in two years) and it has a kickstarter going RIGHT NOW.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yachtclubgames/mina-the-hollower
After Shovel Knight and the YEARS of free updates I'll trust these guys on just about anything.
This gon' be fun. And who doesn't love a good mouse protagonist?
Game Grumps did a playthrough of the demo for Mina. Damn this game looks fun.
