Who else but Oda would make a beast of burden into a compelling character?

Man, that conversation with Luffy seems pretty important to Pauly…

No surprises in the Luffy vs Blueno bout; if you think about it, he pretty much surpassed Soru and Tekkai while he was still in East Blue with the Kuro and Krieg fights.

More and more I come to think that CP9 is just a bunch of overconfident fools who are about to get their asses handed to them royally.

      Complicating things since 2009.

I think 'total war' depends on whether or not CP9 delivers the blueprints for Pluton to the WG. If They don't have a superweapon, they'll have to rely on the Buster Call, which I suspect is not favored by any of the 170 nations. Perhaps I misunderstood, but isn't Buster Call used primarily against islands? Seriously, would you want to make the ultimate sacrifice(i.e., you, your subjects, and your entire kingdom blown to bits) just to take down a handful of pirates?

          @CosmicDebris:

Wow…after reading what Blueno said to Luffy, I would be surprised if not every crewmember ended up with a bounty. Pretty heavy stuff. I really worry for them all now. "you have no future". don

I'm glad this dialogue was put in. I was always thinking it was taken a bit lightly what they were doing there, it seemed pretty damn grave and unlike anything we've seen before to me.. so I was pleased that Blueno bland out said it now too

I think 'total war' depends on whether or not CP9 delivers the blueprints for Pluton to the WG.

I got the impression Spandam was going behind the WG's backs with the whole pluton thing. Otherwise I wouldn't know why he called them "weak old farts" and said that he needed "his own justice to better the world"..

If They don't have a superweapon, they'll have to rely on the Buster Call, which I suspect is not favored by any of the 170 nations. Perhaps I misunderstood, but isn't Buster Call used primarily against islands?

I think you misunderstood.. it's a warfleet, it can very well be used to simply rid the world of the straw-hats without having to destroy an island

I was under the impression that the reference to destroying Islands was to explain the power of the buster call, not that it meant an island actually needed to be destroyed every time the buster call was used. I don't see how using the buster call on pirates out at sea would blow your own kingdom to bits.

Thank you for the translation Kudo.

Now it seems like the StrawHats are going to get a bounty boost. If only for the reason that they entered the Lobby.
Then again, would the marine really want the whole world to know that a band of relatively unknown pirate were able to easily enter their territory like one do in a supermarket? People might think that they are weak. Specially if the StrawHats get out of it unscarred. <_<

As for the Sanji not being able to beat Blueno thing. Maybe it's because Luffy already saw their trick before so he kinda know what they do. Sanji wasn't there, so he didn't really know what his opponent could do. It's kinda understandable that he got beaten.

I wouldn't say Sanji lost. He didn't even have the chance to fight, really.

I hope Oda doesn't try to make a point of anything if Blueno loses, because I still can't see him as anything other than a mouse compared to Lucci.

I like the idea of Sogeking going ahead to save Franky+Robin, since Sogeking could easily beat Spandam with dials or sharpshooting.

I really don't think that they are that unknown. I mean Luffy does have a 100,000,000 bounty.

Oh, well, great chap! I really liked the way Oda put the fight on the sheet… there will be a lot of other fights before the very end, this would have been just a vaste of time: now, there's need to go straight to the final battle, so the fact that Blueno is definitely beaten up in just one chapter it's a great decision.

I really loved Zoro's speech about Usopp too... they have nobody in their group who will die so easily XD I'm really looking for the time they will be all reunited!

about sanji vs. blueno: at that time, he didn't understand the situation about robin very well either, so his strength was unfocused so to say while on the sea train. so actually for a pre-robin-knowledge attack, sanji probably did the best versus CP9.

Sanji was perfectly aware of the situation back then. The others told him via Den Den Mushi a while ago. What he didn´t know was what the Buster Call meant to Robin, but before that was mentioned the Strawhats including Sanji already reached the necessary point of determination.

On a side note, I´m still surprised that we hadn´t any "is that on the cover the Strawhats new ship?" posts. It appears I´ve misjudged things a little bit. Wouldn´t be the first time.

Edit: Just noticed it, thanks for the trans Kudou. The most awesome statement was IMO that Luffy told Blueno that he doesn´t care for all this WG thing and that just Blueno alone has to step aside.

This really is an awesome chapter, because it has the right mix of action and talking.

I wonder if Fukurou's test really measured hit power. Because Lucci did 4000 without breaking through Fukurou's Tekkai. Sanji's Concasse almost broke through it and Luffy succeeded with his Rifle.

What I like with One Piece is how the characters become stronger without us really noticing. I mean, Luffy now uses the Rifle at the beginning of a fight while he used it to finish off Eneru a while ago in a sort of desperate win or loose hit. The same happened with the Storm technique he used against Kiji and Enies Lobby's marines. It had required him to go completely berserk against Crocodile while it's not that hard to do for him now. I like that. There's no such lame shonen clichés as levels (like DBZ, Bleach or Naruto) but is all about techniques, like in early Dragon Ball.

It doesn't. It measured body movement.

It doesn't. It measured body movement.

And what exactly is body movement?

btw I know some don't put much weight on Null's translations, but they relate to the whole teawase/douriki thing as "strength" and "physical power".

Well, if we go by Stephen's script, teawease measures athletics, which can also be considered as body movement.

Yep, I don´t follow Null´s translations when it gets to dicussing something. They are a nice read through but they certainly aren´t a reliable source if you want to build up your theories on it.

But back to the point. According to Stephen´s translations Doriki measures a persons athletics. And to me that makes the most sense because that is the total package of everything together. It´s a combination of all attributes like strength, speed, stamina etc. together that determines someones rank. And it makes much sense if you compare that to the real world. For instance Track and Field athletes aren´t as strong as weight lifters, or don´t have the stamina of a marathon runner or whatsoever, but since they are well trained randomly for more then just one discipline their athletics is beyond the one of a weight lifter or a marathon man, because those guys are only trained in one discipline.

Therefore athletics makes a lot of sense if you ask me. Besides it is not the large or fat guys like Blueno, Kumadori or Fukuro who are the strongest CP9ers, it´s the one with the bodies that come close to a alround athletic body that are the top three: Lucci, Kaku and Jabura. I don´t think that this is a coincidence.

Yes I've considered douriki as a general term for fitness, but I had some problems with it, most notably that I don't see how you can measure something like stamina or manouverablility from taking one hit. Also I'm hoping it's mainly referring to hitting power, because if it really is the whole package of combat prowess, that treads dangerously close to overall "power levels" like "there's no way you can beat me cuz I got more douriki!"..

Maybe Fukurou believe the doukiri measures is correspondent to strengh but IMHO Doukiri will be used because Fukurou will fight against someone with a very low doukiri (8-10) and will loose.

And this whole "athletics" theory by Ivotas is nice. Just the word usage already makes it better than "movement"

Well just as I said back in the chapter 379 discussion. I like to compare that to when boxers measure the power of their punches. They determine who has the strongest punch but that doesn´t determine which one is the better boxer. I see Doriki somehow the same since the CP9ers are martial artists and Doriki is a martial artist athletics measurement.

As far as measuring athletics just after taking one hit is concerned. Well in normal life I would agree with you. But we are talking about Rokushiki users here. In fact one Rokishiki user let´s hims self get hit by other Rokushiki users to determine their Doriki. So if those guys have those superhuman skills then I have no problems in accepting that Fukuro somehow is able to measure a persons athletics just by getting hit.

It's really weird. Fukurou measures power via a single impact. We saw that he was pushed away by Lucci's impact and not by the others. Even if the impact is the result of combined hit power, speed, stance, proper movement… it's still an impact. A single physical blow. And an impact of 4000 Dourikis didn't break Fukurou's tekkai? Wouldn't Sanji's and Luffy's impacts be way above 4000 then?

So : SH raw physical skills > Rokushiki (which doesn't mean SH > CP9 since we have to take fighting techniques and fruit powers into account).

Talking about Tekkai, I'm kinda concerned how Chopper is gonna overcome Tekkai.

Sanji - we know he can break it definitely.
Zoro - He's going to slice through it like slicing through steel. He just needs to hear it's breath.
Nami - She's going to element attack them, so Tekkai isn't going to help.
Soge - I think he'll use dials, such as impact (which impacts the inside, hence rendering Tekkai useless) so he's alright too.

                                                            Chopper - T_T

EDIT: Good idea by da hat xD Hmm yeah, the more I think about it, the more feasible it sounds (other than the tickling part lol). I was thinking more of that Chinese Kungfu thing, where practitioners hit "acupoints" to immobilize opponents and that kind of thing. Maybe he'd do that…. or maybe he'd just use brute force, and we finally see some new Choppy moves.

Maybe that's the weakness to rokushiki?

But I too think you can't use more than one Rokushiki at a time. Which means Blueno crashed in the pillar without tekkai.

I was gonna say i would be happy for someone else to take over but that'd be wack and it's be like they're defeating half and enemy.

Personally, I'm happy that the fight isn't yet over and that this leaves an opening for Blueno to try something… something which doesn't make him look so worthless, like the door trick. And we have a week to speculate what he could do, or will something else happen. Meat, Luffy, meat! The fight would be already over if Oda wouldn't have something on his mind.

By the way, I loved the way things were phased in this chapter, if I haven't said this yet.

Also i'm a bit sick and tired of the Soddom and Gomora thing, end it

Luffy hasn't been with his crew in ages.

I was wondering, I dun think you can use multiple rokushiki at once. And you also have to say it (i.e. blueno says soru, then moves, or he says tekkai then his skin gets hard).

Maybe that's the weakness to rokushiki?

That has been my theory too. Speed paired with strategy might be a way to deal with it. When a CP9er uses for instance Tekkai then they are defending which means if someone grabs them and throws them somewhere (into water for instance) then they can´t do anything against it. And if they want to stop the fall then they have to use Geppou which opens a way for an attack by the opponent because the Tekkai defence has been lowered.

I think that this is a way to deal with it. However you have to be very fast to overcome that.

                                                                                @sabret00the:

Also i'm a bit sick and tired of the Soddom and Gomora thing, end it, it's been ages already, catch up with Luffy and defeat them as a team, Luffy hasn't been with his crew in ages.

Isn´t that the way Oda always handle´s it. In Alabasta he got seperated from them two times. Once when he remained a Rain Base to fight Crocodile the first time (which put him out of the picture very long) and the second time immediately after he reunited with them when he went of to fight Crocodile the second time.
At Skypiea they got seperated while they were on the search for the Golden City. This went even on for over several manga volumes. It´s not like it happens for the first time here. Besides, it isn´t even half as long as in the other mega arcs.

what strike was that, can you post the page please?

Lets say if Luffy throws Lucci for instance towards water then it migh appear that he tries to drown him because of his DF weakness, but actually this is a bluff with the strategy behind it to release the Tekkai for Geppou and POW, Luffy hits with a full strike!

It is just an idea that I think works and it doesn´t have to be in the Lucci vs. Luffy fight. But with seven Rokushiki users I´m sure that at least one of them will be surpassed with this method.

(althought in Alabasta he used the horn point for the first time). If you think about the characteristics of a riendeer the only other thing that I see that could be 'magnified' would be his hooves. Seriously imagine Chopper smashing his opponent into the ground with a set of hooves bigger than them. Or if he combined points eg. arm point and hoove point, or leg and hoove point.

I'm also still hopeing that whomever he goes against has a zoan devil fruit and they get a rumble ball. 😁

However I´m not sure what to think of large hoof´s. I mean he has that large arm point which is obviously a power stage of his mutation. And in Arm Point Chopper has hoofs (or is it hooves) not hands so the power of that point is actually a Hoof-Power-Attack.

I don´t think he needs larger hoofs because I wouldn´t know what do they gain him. I mean just because something is small it doesn´t mean that it can´t do much damage. A bullet is also small but the power of the chemic reaction that goes on inside a gun is actually what makes a small bullet so leathal. I mean if you make a bullet hundred times larger but the power that it needs decreases then the large bullet is useless. Same counts for Choppers hoofs. It´s not the size, it´s the power that matters. And the power comes from the muscle, not from the "bone".

Adamiser_x 1 Reply Last reply Reply Quote 0

If both these people are swinging what is at the end of their arms (hands vs. head-of-hammer) which do you think will do more damage?

This is also a good conversation starter. New points anyone? Do you think he'll just make the rumble ball last longer?

I have a question. How long does he have to wait between rumble balls? Does the rumble ball only exagerate parts of said person or would it do the same for everyone? If so, is a wing point possible eg. with large shoulders and something on back or even stubby arms and wide flat hooves?

If both these people are swinging what is at the end of their arms (hands vs. head-of-hammer) which do you think will do more damage?

Doesn´t make much difference. You are talking about two different things here hands and hammers while our point was big hooves or small hoves and as I said I see no need for bigger hooves if the power that moves them is strong enough. The damage does not come from the size it comes from the power behind it.

BTW It is 'hooves' not 'hoofs' 😁

Smaller things always hurt more than bigger things because there is more force per surface area.

I would like to see a new form too, but it's seriously has to be something with a real use, not a power up but a new way to move or attack or anything. But right now, I can't stretch my imagination enough.

If one person was to swing a 2 foot bat and another person was to swing a 15 foot bat with "equal force". The speed at the end of the 15 foot bat would be much greater, and consiquently also the strength. I understand what your saying (I think) so lets see…

For an attack like the one he did on the god officer bigger hooves would spread out the attack and make it weaker. But if he were to swing his arms from the side of his body (like swinging a baseball bat) or from above (like a hammer) the power and speed at the end of the hooves would be much greater

So hoove point would not be used the same way it was used on the godofficer, rather it would be used for smacking someone like you would a baseball, pounding them into the ground, or even sandwiching them!

Now for somenew points. Nose/ eye point to defeat Soru? And do you think if he were to use leg point with wide, flat foot hooves he would be able to walk in the air like CP9? (cant remeber name…)

Remember Luffy said "we're going to take back everything" - and the color spread says "the winner takes it all", and also Usopp and Luffy being on the same bird. Just thought that was interesting. 😁

I'm curious about what will happen when Luffy manages a bazooka on a tekkai. Since they harden their skin, it would be less pliable and more likely to literally shatter.

Isn't Rifle stronger than Bazooka already? Okey, wait, no! Let's not debate about it. An interesting note though, it's a bloody way to go for sure. But I don't think this is what Oda is up to.
