I started watching the anime first back when it was a 4kids dub and I lost interest. It wasn't till I was a local music/Dvd store called Rasputin when I saw the funidub season one part one there, and I bought it and I liked it. What made want to watch more of it was Chris Sabat's commentary on a episode, If my memory is correct he got reminded of Yu Yu Hakusho and since YYH is one of my favorites anime I had to gave the dub another shot . As for the manga, I read a chapter in the first Shonen Jump I bought and it was from the Arlong Park arc and I liked it, but I didn't know I could read the manga online at the point in time.
Your duration as a One Piece fan

I started off with American Shonen Jump in Nov. 2002 (I preordered it thanks to a plug on Toriyama's World) but decided to read ahead during Buggy. That was May or June of 2003 since a lot of the early issues had one or two chapters at most. I caught up with volumes from EastBlue.net as well as the MSN Group (Xesasu! Chocheh! Kyuu!) and joined Arlong Park in Sept. 2003. So that would have been… around Ch. 291-292ish.
I was completely caught up with the series not all that long afterwards. Since EastBlue.net's collection started with Jaya and ran through Skypiea, I actually read from Jaya on before I read from Baratie to the end of Alabasta.
Looking at the covers, I'm reasonably certain it was Ch. 292, "Meeting a Broken Moon through the Clouds".

Good question. I started reading One Piece in 2003 after I saw a few episodes on TV. I would've started earlier, but I was still learning German at the time (I moved here in November 2002) and I had a hard time understanding everything. I think I started reading weekly scripts around 2006. I know it was CP9 arc, because I remember telling my friend about how Sanji got polished, but I can't remember if that was the first. Then the site I read them on closed down, I think, so I looked elsewhere and found scans which was I think the beginning of Thriller Bark. Pretty sure it was the first chapter of it actually. The one where they find the barrel trap.
That's chapter 442, "Adventure in the Demon Sea", released on January 29th 2007.

@CCC:
I believe I first caught up at some point during Thriller Bark, back in… 2007.
But I remember standing in a supermarket at age 11 or so and reading the early chapters of OP in the American Shonen Jump. I was a big fan of Pokemon and its super-generic-anime-faces so OP's art style was really off-putting. Especially Usopp.
What a fool I was.But then at some point I began watching the 4kids dub and enjoying it, which is quite a testament to OP's quality given that it was 4kids.
Any other tinglings of how far through Thriller Bark you where when you caught up?
It's not a big deal since it's not a very large arc, I could just pick one slap bang in the middle, just to maintain the average.
I remember being really attracted to OP's art specifically because it was so unlike the other stuff I'd seen at that time, I did still feel more comfortable with Gundam Wing style stuff though lol.

Chapter 421: "Gear Third"
Somewhere during 2006. Either July or August.
And it was through a MSN group too. Goddamn.
It was indeed the 31st of July in the good ol' year of 2006.
Ah man, I remember going on MSN messnger all the time as a kid.
Those were the days.

I started watching the anime from the beginning around, oh, late 2006 I believe? I remember the episode listing on Wikipedia (before the sub-wikia thing really took off) was I believe on the Kalifa fight, and the manga was either only just wrapping up Post-Enies Lobby or just starting Thriller Bark. I remember reaching Skypiea the following summer and I started following the manga weekly starting with the chapter where Luffy finally beat Oars with Gigant Bazooka.
Ah, classic team work from the SH's.
That's Chapter 480, "Ambush Attack", released on the 3rd of December, 2007.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Technically my One Piece experience started with 4kids, yadda yadda…
an actual physical chapter that I "newly" read tho? Hmmm....I remember I was checking the OP wiki one day....umm.....yes, I think I remember. It was the chapter in Impel Down where Luffy and Buggy decide to team up at the end.
That's Chapter 526, "Adventure in the Great Prison", released on 22/12/2008.

@Monkey:
Chapter 303: The Super Rich Pirates, which was 2004 I think.
Just inside the barrier of 2003, namely the 15th of December.
Very nice MK, simultaneously our first streak over a decade long, as well as the longest overall.

@Cyan:
Aaah…2004 I want to say, 4Kids One Piece was airing on Toonami.
Then the Funimation dub started airing, got axed, and I generally lost track of One Piece for a few years aside from the occasional Shounen Jump, preferring to stick to Naruto (things hadn't gone completely down hill at that point.)
My second stint at Serebii reintroduced me to One Piece around...say, 2008? Started reading the manga about a year before joining AP (my first chapter was the one where Whitebeard reveals his powers.) Been consistently reading it ever since.
Looks like you've been reading regularly since chapter 552, "Ace and Whitebeard", released on the 3rd of August 2009.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
My first episode was on June, 2008, 6 years from now already…
And my first chapter was one of the first of the Sabaody Island. When Rayleigh kicked Ki Zaru. This had to be about 4-5 month later !
I don't even realize I've spent so much time reading One Piece and we aren't near the end still...That's Chapter 511, "Axe Wielding Sentomaru", released on August the 25th, 2008.

Does it count if thought you were caught up at the time?
Well I started with the American Shonen Jump sometime in 2003 and subsribed in 2004. I read the early chapters that I missed from a friend who had collected before me. It wasn't until late 2009 when Viz decided to speed up the releases of OP volumes and in turn SJ went straight from the Alabasta conclusion all the way to Impel Down. I was so damn confused lol. Guess I wasn't much of a manga enthusiast since for 6-7 years I thought that SJ was giving me up-to-date material. So it took me a little while to catch up from that onslaught of chapters and i also found out that not even Impel Down was up to date at the time.(still a year behind at this point)
But I decided to just stick with what SJ released since I wasn't that far behind and I was generally used to the 3-4 chapters that was given in the monthly volumes. SJ proceeded to go to digital a couple years later and skipped ahead 40ish chapters to the end of FI. Even then I wasn't technically caught up as in the early stages of the digital form, Viz was still a few weeks behind. They sped up translations like a year later in 2013 and I guess that's when I've been "caught up." Then at some point in Dressrosa when things finally got interesting I started reading chapters early on Wednesdays.
Long story short, Zoro was Zolo to me for quite some time
Lol yeah the whole Zolo thing still annoys me just little bit every time I read my volumes.
So we're saying at some point in the Dressrosa Arc is when you caught up entirely?

First new chapter: 310
First new episode: 174I got into One Piece in 2003. I was aware of One Piece's existence (as in saw the openings and endings) around the time of the third anime opening (which I somewhere around 116).
Now I actually had 169 (I think?) first which was when the new opening and ending debuted (BON VOYAGE) as I specifically remember ripping it and uploading it on IRC for K-F members. I didn't watch until Yama was defeated, though.
I'd like to add that I was on the forums previously before this iteration (with a now-defunct username) and got really old chapters on the main site (does anyone use it anymore?) where we mostly only posted on the comments. I have some old DBF chapters phone scans on an old HDD if anyone wants a nostalgia kick.
-
Well, I remember catching up with the anime right when the timeskip started, so I definitely caught up with the manga on the day that episode was released. The next chapter that was released after that episode aired was my first "new" chapter. I think it was right after the crew left Sabaody for the second time… not really sure though.
EDIT: The episode release date was September 25, 2011 if that helps.
Looks like the corresponding manga chapter at the time was Chapter 640, "Right Above Fishman Island", which was released on September 26th of that year.

I'm trying to figure it out…
Do you mean, the newest chapter scan and released on the internet?
I was reading the manga books since they were first released in the USA and forget the year.
I know it was before 2007 as that summer was when I moved from Texas to Wisconsin.I was in WI when I discovered the internet scans, decided to read all and catch up before reading 'newest chapter' which was around Thriller Bark I think ... it was November 2007 when I caught up. … dang that was a loooong time, I was reading mangafox back then!
I can't remember when I first found AP.. and it still took me some time (like a year or two.. three?!) after that until I stopped lurking here and finally join.
Yeah I lurked on AP for a good while before I joined as well.
If we're talking November 2007 then you have a choice of chapters 477-479, take a look, see if any bells start ringing…or just pick one at random, it's all good

A storied past with the manga we all love, and a new frontrunner as well, I love it.

Hmmm, I remember seeing OP on TV (the 4Kids 'dub') a loooong time ago.It was during the Buggy arc, and my understanding from the episode bit I saw is that "There's a guy called Luffy and he wants to be Pirate King. He uses a Devil Fruit power and he has to fight other Devil Fruit people to become Pirate King (… like a tournament or something). And everyone has HUUUUGE mouths.' I didn't like it hahaha
Sometime later, I saw quite a lot of the 4Kids dub, through all of Alabasta, and enjoyed it :p Then I learned how to use the internet or something (specifically, my brother used to torrent some series ... specifically Bleach), and saw some subbed OP. Well, eventually, I marathoned the anime and caught up through Water 7 at least, and then discovered that I could read manga online. So I read up to date, and then the chapter where I caught up was a cliffhanger! D: It was just before the Duval reveal. Chapter 493, probably. I know I caught up before the summer when I was in Y8 (ie summer 2008) but judging by other people's posts I can guess that was early 2008. So I was in Y7 huh. And like 11 and a bit. Wow, so in a few years, I'll have been reading the OP manga weekly for half my life xD It's kind of scary if I say it like that.
I didn't join AP for some time. Until summer 2010, apparently. I guess I joined in a moment of weakness to read spoilers, because I remember when I actually wanted to join this forum to start posting and such (probably in 2011?) I found out I already had an account and had to guess my username and password (I'm predictable ... )
-
I never really got into the anime all that much though I did watch it from time to time; I think KF was just getting into Skypiea when I started but I can't be sure.
Far as dubs go, I made the very first reaction thread to the 4Kids dub on the previous incarnation of this forum; I made it within five minutes of the opening song. I can't recall what the other options I put in the poll about the intro were but I do remember the winning selection was "It causes cancer in laboratory rats".
-
joined Arlong Park in Sept. 2003.
I didn't know this forum was around yet then :o the earliest records I've ever found for threads/posts and join dates were from Feb. 2005, so I always assumed that's when the forums were created.

the first time I read one piece it was the last volume got out in my country (the n.50). then I started read online chapters, and I remember waiting for the ch.519, while the first "new episode" I seen was the one with the Gaon Cannon's debut.
-
Admittedly started reading weekly pretty late. It was Chapter 710: Towards Green Bit, which Mangapanda says was released 06/05/2013.
Picking up and reading One Piece happened so recently,(well, last year) and yet I really can't remember it very clearly. I found and read Naruto online, after hearing people talk about it. That was 2010, I believe? Eventually stopped as I wasn't intersting, there were other stuff going on, interest changed.I had heard of One Piece before that. In fact, I have vague memories of seeing Luffy talk to Coby on TV. It was the Odex dub, by the way. Eventually, I came back to read, and I was more interested in manga now. I read One Piece, somehow, and quietly followed. By Baratie I was really a fan.
-
I started watching the anime around March 2012. It took me until about June to finally catch up with the anime, which was around midway through Fishman Island when I finished. Then, I started reading the manga, about midway through Punk Hazard. Initially, I was put off by reading the manga for , so at approximately chapter 760 or so, I took a break. By the way, it was during the time I read the manga that I discovered Arlong Park. So, instead of reading the manga, I read summaries about the plot. It wasn't until around 690 that One Piece piqued my interest again, and I've been reading it ever since.
-
Oh man I was an anime fan for a while, then I started reading the manga and I caught up on chapter 513(Sept 2008) "I couldn't Save them" I Was almost in tears because I thought the crew was split up for good lol That was the longest week of my life haha
-
YEah I used to watch the anime … an nearly didn't get into the manga due to that horror of 4kids  glad I did give the manga the chance ... which lead to me dropping the anime
YEs, I know that 4kids stopped and FUNimation took over, but still. While the stupid censoring stopped it still had problems with art, filler ect.If we're talking November 2007 then you have a choice of chapters 477-479, take a look, see if any bells start ringing…or just pick one at random, it's all good
Hmm I'd have to go with "around" 478 ,the intro of Nightmare Luffy
-
I first heard of it in 2000,and started reading it in the beginning of 2001, because then it was published first here in Germany.
I didn`t have internet at that time, so it took me a while to realise that new chapters were online available.
So i started downloading chapters on the school server, the end of Skypia was it at that time.
It was a bunch of chapters for me to read, never will i enjoy such a great moment again..having 2 or 3 volumnes to read instantly ;)I followed it on a german site (allblue) who published the chapter a week after it was realised on the internet, so i was probably really following the new chapters, when i also read them in english.
I am pretty sure it has to be around chapter 322, when i was up to date with the chapters. -
2003 Shonen Jump USA.
-
Followed the anime till marineford started, then continued on with the manga. I caught up to chapter 582, which was around when the Luffy flashback started.
Wow in retrospect that was an amazingly fast 4 years that past. Looking back I've changed so much and I have to admit discovering and following this series has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my life.
-
I've read OP from NA Shonen Jump since like 2004-05 but didn't get into seriously until my marathoning led to Ace's march to the execution stand. I guess chapter 549 or 550 would be the chapter where I was caught up. I guess I'll go with 550 Marine Headquarters but I can't find the release date.

I think the first new chapter I read was 598 (october 4 2010). Before that I had been watching the anime (started in 2009).
-
The first "new" chapter I read?
I think I remember it being during the flashback of Skypiea.
I'm going to round to 290 which was 9/8/2003…
The oldest archived page of Arlong Park I could find was from October 6th, 2003… with the latest post being October 3rd, 2003... ah memories...
Again, only a guess due to that I remember reading the flashback as it came out and the site looked like it had been around a little bit before the date mentioned, as well as time creating the site in the first place....

Yeah, that makes sense as I did my marathoning during the summer. Man, I feel old. Where did you find that info?
-
Even though I started watching the anime between 2001-2003 I didn't become a regular reader of the manga until chapter 331. Yep. THAT chapter. Which was released on August 2, 2004. From that point I kept up with each chapter on a regular basis. Later on in the year I started to do the same with the anime.
-
This thread makes me feel hella young. I'd watched the 4Kids dub when I was a kid, but I didn't really pick it up again until mid-2010-ish with the Funimation dub. In fact, I remember the anime had just gotten to Ace's death when I started and I got spoiled by just looking at the latest episode's title. It took me over a year of jumping back and forth between anime and manga before I final caught up. My first chapter being caught up was in the middle of the Fishman Island arc (I can't remember if it was during the flashback or the fight between Luffy and Jinbe). My first anime episode caught up was Episode 507, though I've since dropped the anime since it kinda sucks now.

First new chapter was 731… Amazing new chapter I gotta say.

Mine is a bit complicated, first chapter I read was 596 sometime back in 2010. But I didn't follow up, I was too lazy to dig down 500+ chapters. It wasn't until 2012 that I picked it up from chapter 1 after seeing the anime. Then I realize the anime was horse shit. I won't call myself a fan from 2010, let's put it at 2012. Funny thing is my cousin has been on me about the manga since 2004. I wish I picked it up then.

Caught up with the anime in Thriller Bark and kept following it until everything in the war was spoiled by the beloved manga readers, hahaha. Then decided to read the manga and my first new chapter was 591, I think, "You sure that's alright?".
-
Let's see. I had been watching the anime for a while whenever it was on here (Germany) but it only went up to the end of Skypiea. Or maybe G8 happened too, I'm not certain. In any case, it was around that time that I put the internet to good use and tried to find out more about the story of One Piece. I remember reading about Usopp leaving the crew and Robin leaving the crew and them getting a new ship and I just couldn't make sense of anything anymore.
Eventually I found a place to read the manga. I know that it was at the end of 2006 because I distinctly remember that we had just moved and I was reading the manga in the pantry in the basement because that was the only room that had internet at the time. I know that the first chapter that I read up-to-date was in Water 7 between Ennies Lobby and Thriller Bark. I can't say exactly but I'm just gonna go with 431, "Fist of Love". I do know that I stopped reading spoilers right when Kuma suddenly appeared on Thriller Bark. But I of course got spoiled on that anyhow… -
It was Franky's flashback, but i don't know which chapter exactly. That was the first time i was up to date with the japanese chapters. Before that i only followed the anime until the run ended on TV.
Shortly after that, in 2006 i think, i discovered this site.
I just realized how long i'm here already. Dude, time fliiiiies! -
I started reading One Piece manga when episode chapter 616 came out ( February 28, 2011) and i caught up when chapter 619 came out ( April 4, 2011) .

I first really got into anime in 2001 where series like dbz, wedding peach, digimon 02, kaito jeanne etc were airing for the first time in germany. I was 11 at the time. Once dbz came out it blew up like crazy. Everyone at school was talking about and there was a comic of it getting released every 2 weeks or monthly I think wich was just basically covering all the dbz movies put into a manga format with screenshots from the actual films and speechbubbles on top. They also included some other stuff like infos about characters etc. And of course there were advertisements of manga series that were getting released at the time. I still remember always seeing the cover with buggy there and thinking to myself, wow it kinda looks different from other stuff I watch, but I never really thought about it further since I wasn't reading manga at all at the time. And it wouldn't change for years, besides one banzai issue ( german equivalent of jump we had for years, in wich i read the hxh chapter with all the troupe members getting shown for the first time btw.^^) and volume 34 of dragonball.
But then once one piece started running for the first time in 2003 I started watching from the beginning and was fan ever since, especially the arlong arc got me hooked. I payed video games of it for ps2 and even the crappy grand battle for the psone, wich I loved back then. And after years watching it up to the skypiea arc I believe, I finally got the internet, became a huge fan of bleach, because I was able to stream it and the first opening and the cool fights especially the ones in soul society just hooked me. Oh man the good old times where I actually liked bleach, but that is off topic. xD
With the internet I started watching one piece through streams with my sister. We watched from enies lobby up to ending of thriller bark, when I finally got into reading the online scans, catching up from the meeting with camy and the hilarious duval reveal up to the human auction portion and then the kuma fight where all of them got split up. And I can't remember exactly, but either the chapter with all of them seperated at the end or the start of amazon lilly was the chapter when I finally was caught up to the japanese release.
Man, the post sure got long, lol. Still surreal that one piece is already 11 years a big part of my life.^^ and it will probably even get up to almost 20 when I'm already in my thirties, holly…
-
Was watching the anime years before I started reading manga, but my first new chapter after i caught up was Chapter 547: "Escaping the Island" released on June 22, 2009.
-
I don't remember which chapter I caught up at, exactly, but I know it was during the Luffy vs. Lucci fight in Enies lobby.
-
I watched the 4kids dub when I was 9 on the FoxBox. Then it got moved to Cartoon Network and canceled so I didn't watch it for a few years. Then one day i realized their must be a Japanese version and googled it and that was during the Impel Down arc. Now I read the manga and watch One Pace as it comes out.
-
I started with scans around….mid-2008 I think.http://i15.mangapanda.com/one-piece/502/one-piece-1693984.jpgThis is the first "New" chapter I've read. Awesome
Haha yeah man, awesome.
That's specifically Chapter 502, "The Tenryuubito Incident", released on the 9th of June, 2008.

Lol that's quite the storied past right there, very nice.
Since it's such an excellent chapter, let's go for Chapter 513, "I Couldn't Save Them!", released on the 8th of September, 2008.

I don't remember which chapter I caught up at, exactly, but I know it was during the Luffy vs. Lucci fight in Enies lobby.
Hmm, that's a pretty long fight man, anything to narrow it down at all?

I watched the 4kids dub when I was 9 on the FoxBox. Then it got moved to Cartoon Network and canceled so I didn't watch it for a few years. Then one day i realized their must be a Japanese version and googled it and that was during the Impel Down arc. Now I read the manga and watch One Pace as it comes out.
Any specific part of ID that you remember catching up at?

Well it was at a point where everyone was complaining about how long it had been going on in the MSN group's forum, if that makes any difference.
I thiiiink it was after everyone else fights were done too, but there were still a few weeks before Luffy vs Lucci was done. Was there a point like that? Or am I just mixing things up?
Also, if we're going by when I first read it ever, I first read it in the issue of Shonen Jump published in the states that had the first chapter of Naruto in it. I wasn't really a fan until I started reading the scans, though.

That's anywhere between Chapter 417, when Zoro defeats Kaku and Chapter 427 when Luffy finally topples Lucci.

It was during the Filler arc with the big beetle and the Mexican guy

I watched the anime whenever it came on Toonami throughout the 2000's, then decided to marathon it in 2012 at which point I caught up with the show.
As for the manga however I only started reading after I watched the anime but, because I had just marathoned the whole thing via television, I only just caught up in the last year. My first new chapter was 722 "The Royal Bloodline", which was released September 23rd, 2013.

Started watching the anime in about 2005 I think, I remember the last chapter available in the manga was around Water 7-Enies Lobby.
Loved the hell out of it, stopped on episode 110, one year later watched 111 and stopped again, a year after that continued watching until the latest episode was available (a bit before Perona VS Usopp) then switched to manga, took my time with everything. (Read the whole thing all over again too)My first new chapter was a bit after the Supernova reveal, so about chapter 500, released on May 26, 2008.

I think it's 419, then.
