wow they made Jola much more beast in the anime
I actually thought this episode was pretty good. I like what they did with Jola's powers and liked how they made it seem like more of a fight (even though I wish they did some more with it). also loved how they were able to use the Sunny's weapons for the fight. Overall, it was a pretty good episode IMO

I hate it when we get lousy animation directors on an episode. I actually liked the idea of Giolla's filler, because it was an awesome and interesting expansion on her powers, but it was just animated so badly that it's a wasted opportunity.
The final part was very good, and would've been better if the animation was better. I hate money saving episodes. It's a shame, because this idea was just so good, easily one of the better filler ideas to come from Toei.
It wasn't a bad episode even though the character art for Nami was questionable at times. When ever she showed her profile it tended to appear more like a "anime girl" profile when the bridge of the nose is simplified and the lips don't connect to the face.
I did have a revelation that this is the first arc (not counting the Strawhat Separation arc) that Nami has been sidelined and not playing a key supporting role. In most of the previous arcs she's usually more directly involved with the events of the arc.
I love Brook's theme :D And from the name of the attack, I guess he's been playing Fruit Ninja.
I could listen to Doflamingo's laugh all day. Seriously, his voice actor is one of the best I've ever heard when it comes to villains. I mean this isn't a secret to anyone, but I felt like pointing that out :P
The episode was alright, I guess. Jora's Shadows Asgard was kind of silly, but I liked it. Better animation would have been nice (Brook cutting and dodging the arms), but it was bearable. I felt like they took too much liberty when it came to Momonosuke "defeating" Jora, but I can see why they wouldn't want to show him torture a handcuffed woman.

Decent episode, barto's part was pure gold you just can't get enough of the dude good times. The filler bite was actually interesting. Galdios hair colour was not, i thought it would be, but is good seeing him finally.

Agreed, especially for a big arc like this one it is weird that Nami isn't getting a bigger role, maybe later in the arc she will (haven't read the manga so I don't know), however Robin is getting a bigger role this arc which is nice :)
This episode was ok, not the most exciting but did have it's funny parts.
Episode 654 Preview
That was…interesting. I suppose the purpose of that Heaven's Door Art (was that supposed to be a reference to Jojo?) was to
! give the Sunny group something to do during the arc before they get shipped out for the duration. Could've done a little more with it than giant art monstrosity, but good to see some thinking outside the box.
Gladius's hair (and skin for that matter) certainly didn't look like how I imagined it would. I liked the added touch of him tapping his foot impatiently - it's one of those little touches that animation adds that gives a character a little more, well, character.

Even tough I liked the Jora filler, it felt too early to have a fight that big. Something like that should have been spared for a possible rematch with her.
Alright episode. The filler and animation could've been better, but since they took the opportunity to stretch our Jora's fight and give both the Sunny and its current sailing crew some shining moments, it evens out.

I don't think that would be a problem; if they have a rematch, we don't know if they'll be on the sunny, meaning they wouldn't have the cannon to help them out.

I honesty can't tell what's wrong with that.
For an episode that was mostly filler i thought it was really well done. They expanded on Jola's fight which is awesome and it makes me wonder
! if they will expand more on other off-screen fights that happen later like the first Zoro Vs. Pica, Kyros Vs. Lao G, Franky Vs. Pink and co., and most importantly: expand on the Usopp Vs. Trebol fight which was all off-screen in the manga
'Happy we got an expansion - dumb though it was. 'Even happier that Chopper actually used a different form.
Brook cutting the lightning bolt and then resheathing his sword… I guess that is how he fights, but it seemed like a Zoro move to me. 'Weird for some reason. Maybe it takes me way back to being mad about both of them using the same weapon.
I enjoyed this episode. My only gripe is how silly the brook and giolla fight seemed. No blood or cuts when Brook cut her. I guess it was supposed to be like that?

I don't like Mononosuke either. The sooner he's out of the story the better IMO.
I wasn't interested in Jora, but I was curious to see how the crew on the ship was going to get out of their predicament. (Be saved by off ship assistance, or get out of it themselves).
This episode the extra screen time for Violet help established her character (and powers) further, and opened the door for her to be featured further going forward. I wouldn't mind seeing her joining the Straw Hat crew. That occurrence seems unlikely given that Luffy is currently bonding with another female non-crew member (Rebecca). Violet's powers seem so strong that it could prevent the Straw Hats from encountering trouble before it could occur. (Which wouldn't help with telling stories of the Straw Hats getting in trouble). However, knowing Luffy if he's told about trouble or a challenge (adventure) he's more likely to take the crew to face it than avoid it. Either way I feel the Straw Hat crew could use another female member whether it be Violet (doesn't seem established enough or bonded with the crew enough - aside from Sanji), or Rebecca (I get a Vivi outcome vibe based on the current story).
More surprising then the Mingo past reveal this episode (which was hinted at during the start of the Law/Mingo battle) was the reveal that
! Vivi's ancestors were part of the establishing World Government.
So from what I've skimmed through so far, I'm seeing an entire filler scene added for obvious reasons. I mean given the fact that the anime and manga are so close, we shouldn't be surprised at all. But the anime does this better in my opinion because a Don Quixote executive should not have gone down so easily in the manga like Oda did. I feel she feels like more of a threat in the anime with her crazy powers. It's rare for me to say the anime did something better than the manga, but here we go. The art was a little wonky in some parts and decent in others. The weird thing about Nami in this episode is that she looked really cute in some parts while looking very off at the same time. It's hard to explain but that's how I feel about that.

! Violet joining will be sort of similar to when Robin joined. Rebecca just can't join the Strawhats with her current situation: "Oh I have a father I didn't know about? Let me leave to become a pirate first." While Violet has known her father for however old she is.
This Jora filler was a good idea.. Too bad it was severely brought down by lazy animation and hideous art.
Fortunately, or unfortunately - depending on where you stand - this will probably become the norm from here on out. I said a while back (when we were covering this content in the manga) that Oda most likely skipped all these confrontations to give the anime some breathing room. It's smart of them to cash in on that and start expanding the fights with their own filler, because at this rate, they need all the room they can get.
I didn't mind the expansion too much–I'm still very happy we're getting expansive filler instead of long pans. Sure, Jora's filler form was pretty lame but had some interesting bits. Plus the anime actually shows Momo hitting Jora over the head with a club, an act that tend to always look funny in One Piece and this being no exception with Jora's body squishing down with the impact.
A bigger problem was that the whole scene where Brook trick's Jora is sooo terrible looking in terms of animation and art. The manga panels were far more attractive (an funny).
A couple big issues I have with it is that it cuts into the the subversive comedy of having Jora taken out as easily as he was. It also downplays how crucial Brook's part in the battle was, with the additional "flying Brook" filler looking especially ridiculous. I laughed pretty hard at the anime cutting to Brook doing a single backwards somersault over a distance that looked like half a mile to gently land on the Sunny.
