It's just hilarious that some folks are blaming Eric Garner for his death because he was not in tip top shape.
A friend of a friend on facebook put it perfectly:
"To suggest, as Representative Peter King and others have, that Mr. Garner bears partial culpability for his death because he was a fat man with hypertension, is to suggest that the police have no obligation to take the physical or mental state of a citizen into account during an arrest. Which is callow and ludicrous.The logical extension of that is that it is the responsibility of citizens to train their bodies to ensure they can withstand the rigors of an arrest. And here is where we see it is all a big shell game. His weight is just a convenient trait that many Americans already look down upon, in themselves and others. But if Mr. Garner had a slight frame, the problem would be his frailty. If he was muscular, he would've been more threatening to the police. If he had a runners build, he would've been a flight risk. The justification is always hollow, no matter what shape you try and give it."
