I want all the overlooked characters to get some focus this arc, and I want all the chapters to be as good as the last three. That way, no matter who the traitor turns out to be, it will be heartbreaking.

I'm pretty sure we've actually seen Bakugou sleeping in some of those. Guy tires himself out I guess?
I think we saw him actually asleep once. The other times he's laying there awake. Unless he sleeps with his eyes open lol.
I'm just actually glad there is focus on other characters. There would be no real impact with a traitor among the students if we had no connection to them.
-
I am now imagining Ashido, Aoyama and Deku dancing like Passione Gang from Vento Aureo for some reason.
-
That guy in the Yotube video is definitely the traitor!!!!
I liked this chapter. Not sure what my favorite joke is. Ashido's "OK boy, let's dance!" and her pose, Tokoyami's edgy banquet or Bakugo's Murderfest. I thought it was pretty funny that they actually wrote down "Titty Bar" on the board. I know they crossed it out, but that they actually took a moment to write it down is funny to me.
Shouldn't Tokoyami's thing have been "Banquet of Darkness for students"? That makes a bit more sense to me.
Also, Iida's face when his idea was being shot down. Was it a reference to something? It feels familiar. Or am I just dumb and he's simply doing a silly face?

Whoa, I was imagining the same thing just before reading your post :o
-

Unfortunately, that's the obvious localization for oppabu, except it makes no sense for goodie-two-shoes Ida and Momo to write down "titty bar."
Mineta's awfulness strikes again.
-
The banquet for students of the dark and titty bar were the best suggestions.
-
I didn't realize they had actually written up 20 suggestions on my first read. I was like how was Murder-fest Bakugou's idea? But…of course it is lmao. Hank Hill voice That boy ain't right.
I like that even though Mineta is trash they still at least kinda try to be fair to everyone and their ideas.

It's not the time yet, and the focus can't be on all of them at the same time, a few more class arcs are needed. For example, Sero and octopus guy have no stake on this. Why should them get focus right now, instead of later when they can get it for themselves?
-
Forgot to mention Ochako's upgraded hero costume on the cover page. I like Hirokoshi potentially making Uraraka 1-A's official flying character. Reconnaissance, stealth, assists, lots of roles she can fill from just that.
@Long:
I feel like the traitor reveal will be during a dark moment not them matter of factly found through some culture day school activity. Maybe they'll have a list of suspect narrowed down
Not he's a traitor foreshadowing. More like he's training or studying at night to keep ahead of Deku foreshadowing.
-

That's good thinking!
Once or twice and you might imagine "Oh. Dude is just really anti-social and sleepy" but a pattern _is_ emerging… hmm... -
I always thought it was a way of being alone and not forcing himself to socially interact, considering how rude and fed up he gets.
Like a Seto Kaiba "I'm not dealing with you Scoobies" kinda thing. -
Well, maybe he always has turned in early, I have a friend that sleeps from 9 to 5 like someone from a rural area.
-
On the subject of the chapter title, can we just take a moment to appreciate what a fantastic title Defying Gravity is? Not only does it refer to both Uraraka's powers and Ashido's moves, but it's the biggest song from Wicked. So Uraraka's in green like the Wicked Witch of the West and the chapter has them deciding to do some musical theater.
Man, Horikoshi would really GO BEYOND if he was a musical theater nerd too.
-
I dunno. Seems kinda strange to always point out that he went to bed early. But we did see that he at least wakes up around noon if left to his own devices.
In regards to the ominous YoTube video. Do you guys think we'll keep getting these red herring pictures throughout this class bonding chapters? Like we're actively being trolled?
@Jabberwok I noticed that too! It's a nice touch.
-
Errrr… the gravity bit isn't the chapter title (title is School Festival). Just editorial text (which, for better or worse, doesn't get translated/published officially).
It is some good English word/cultureplay from whoever came up with it though :) -
Ah I see now, that's too bad. Still hope Horikoshi slips in a Greased Lightning attack for Kaminari or something.
-
School Festival arc? I'm having Vietnam flashbacks to Negima.
-
Best girl is getting a spotlight. I like this.
-

She isn't best girl anymore. Haha, the character polls….

A speculated traitor (probably) being revealed at the school festival actually really reminds me of Blue Exorcist.
-

-
@Long:
She got plenty of spotlight in the overhaul arc :ninja:
You're absolutely right.
!
-
We aren't getting the traitor without ALL of class A getting proper focus, Sato, Sero, Tailman and Octoman aren't primed as Denki, Kota, Hagakure, Ashido and Jiro.
-
@Count:
You're absolutely right.
First scene of her fighting was literally hitting two giant enemies…and knocking them back a great deal...horikoshi why?!?!?
-

It could be a translation issue, in viz she just says that big ones are tricky to deal with.
Maybe she needs more energy to create bigger waves and also needs to be careful about how they'll fall when knocked over, because of collateral damage. -

Yup. The line is literally "big ones are difficult." That's all. Nothing explicit about Nejire's skills/specialty.

I think the series is at it's strongest when it's focusing on the class dynamic. But at the same time, I think the Jiro-Kaminari ship-bait is one of the weakest aspects of said dynamic. I'm so conflicted.

I think they would be way better off as friends that mock and occasionally support each other, personally. But shonen law dictates that any recurring bond between a main male and female character results in a relationship by the series epilogue at least 80% of the time…
-
Can Jiro and Koda hook up instead? Heck, I'll take Jiro x Selkie over Jiro and Kaminari. I'm not a shipper and I have all of nada interest in who's having lip eating contests with whom but I am so bloody tired of characters who going from not tolerating each other to not being able to live without each other in the span of one second. I also believe you shouldn't invoke any cliche that Buffy the Vampire Slayer has made fun of.
!

Kaminari is one of my favorite characters personality wise so If that's what they set up it'll get him more focus so Im fine if they go that way. Besides its not like we'll geta reveal they were just dating the whole time, it's like they talk to each other and things evolve from there.
I actually like it when an anime romance ismt "the guy in an anime lovestruck from the jump and the girl has to spend half the show realizing their feelings. " Especially when you consider none of kaminaris mild pervertedness (thoughts or actions) has been directed at jirou. Makes it feel more natural
-
True believers know JirouXMomo is the real ship.
But really, I think y'all are discrediting Kaminari and Jirou's relationship too much. Kaminari tries to be a player and liking Jirou goes against his typical type. She keeps his goofy ego in check but also seems to act a little more relaxed around him most of the time. It's a better relationship than, say, Todoroki and Momo.
Nothing beats BakuShima though.

I agree with all of this. Although I'm sliding into the ShoutoxBakugou ship.
But Jiro and Kaminari do have an interesting dynamic. But I think it's also that none of the girls in class A or that we've seen in class B are awful. They may not get the spotlight often but they are all at least top notch in personalities. So a lot of characters seem to have multiple options that would work either way. And aren't weird and unhealthy

Bnha does seem to lean towards allowing the relationships bear fruit before the ending. Horikoshi certainly seems to have a different philosophy towards writing romance than his predecessors.
-
Seconding all the people who have said that the series is at its best when it's more about character interaction and slice-of-life than it is the serious action stuff. I mean, honestly, I already care way more about this goddamn festival dance party than I ever did about fighting the Yakuza or whatever it was that happened last arc.
And yeah, it was really cute when Jiro got that encouragement from the Electric Traitor. I'm looking forward to seeing where that goes.
-

I dunno. Bakugo needs someone who can take it when he explodes all over them. I don't think Todoroki can handle that.

Well if it's an emotional outburst Shouto is pretty deadpan with Bakugou yelling..Which kinda sets him off more lol. Physically…I dunno.
Is Bakugou fire proof? Or should he be kept from open flames entirely?
-

Cleaning up the leftover environmental messes from Shouto's hot and cold loads would be terrible though. Look at what happened during the Sports Festival when Shouto prematurely relieved himself a few seconds into the match with Sero. We can already see that endurance isn't Shouto's strong suit judging from his interaction with Bakugo at the end.
Bakugo's on a whole other level of stamina. He took Deku's full frontal assault after the License Exam without even flinching.
-
Damnit Count Mario. I'm at work. I can't be chorttling with people nearby lol.

I support this, the Koda over Kaminari part and the Buffy reference.
-
Koda and Jiro's Kids could be pretty nifty. Speak to and understand animals and bugs? Maybe micro organisms?

No, speak to and teach bugs how to rock out.

The frick just happened?

I think we got our first "not evil" villain, just an annoying fellow for heroes and police, but harmless. I like him already, I can´t wait to see more of Gentle.
-
Gentle looks like what you'd get if Spring Mustachio and Don Kanonji did the Fusion Dance.
-
I love him. So awesome the tea stuffff.
-
I'm still trying to figure out this guy's power. The way he says "Cut" like a movie director and immediately shows up outside of the store makes me think of time stopping/skipping powers. His showman personality fits some sort of movie-themed Quirk since movies rely a lot on technological illusions for entertainment, which is the gimmick for the Spider-Mam villain Mysterio. But that would require big buffers to not be overpowered, and it doesn't explain why the store looks all curvy or his goofy subtitles.
-
My first thought was we just got the MHA equivalent of a Phantom Thief
Also, calling it now, Eri learns about Nighteye's death and rampages. "Practically Zero" means "practically guaranteed" in fiction and Eraserhead has basically spelled out the perfect trigger.
-
Let's just hope Gentle won't turn into another Diavolo.
