God damn I love Knuckleduster.
My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist

God damn I love Knuckleduster.
-
why is he reading a magazine about cats tho?
He likes cats. I think one of the volume extras talks about it.
-
Vigilante was great. Of course, Aizawa showing up can only make it better.
Knuckleduster being quirkless, I thought he just had a useless quirk. The guy is hardcore. Slamming a brick in that dude's face. This really is Netflix MHA. His philosophy is gonna get him and Gentle-Man in lots of trouble. Really want to know Old Man Knuckle's backstory.Gentle-Man using his quirk to scale a wall and survive the fall was cool. Hope to see what else he can do with his quirk. Pop Step was useful. It's a start.
Like the villain playing with them like toys. But, we still don't know anything about who made Trigger or why "they" are giving it away. The series is moving to Jump+, I'm worried this "reboot" means the story is starting over from the beginning. Hope it continues with chapter three.

Vigilante was cool, I guess, not as good as the first chapter but not bad either. However, second chapter of Vigilante, second chapter the two male guys keep doing all the work while the girl just goes KYAA~~~… Hope things don't stay like that.

She seemed to be fulfilling the "common sense" role often given to female characters.
-
To be fair, gentlemen didn't do much more than Pop Step. Except, well, save her…

So he really is Batman…
Closer to the Punisher I would say. Punch first ask later lol.
The superhero he reminds me of is definitely Wildcat from DC. He's just a tough old man that uses his boxing prowess, sharp knuckles, and stamina to give crime a can of whoop ass. And also a bit of Netflix's Daredevil.
!
!
!The Vigilante chapter was cool and I liked Aizawa being there. Although I felt his appearance was a bit too random, especially since he's a covert superhero (but this is sort of recognized in how Gentle-Man and Pop-Step don't recognize him). Still don't care much for Pop-Step, but at least she's helping out with common sense info gaining (even though that's a frequent trope for girls to fulfill, like sgamer claimed). Seeing Gentle-Man save Pop-Step from a giant and use his powers to narrowly survive was entertaining though. And I still love Knuckleduster's personality.
As for the latest My Hero Academia volume cover, it's pretty cool. But I'm disappointed to not see All for One in there as well, or even just him on the cover instead.
-
The Viligante chapter was a lot better than I expected, all thanks to Knuckleduster. He's awesome. The other two need some work.
The cover is really good, though it irks me that it's so different from the rest. This is going to sound weird, but I love how Horikoshi draws Hands and Teeth. His art in general is one of my all-time favorites, but those Hands and Teeth… and occasionally shoes... artistic goal.

I feel the same way about his teeth and hands. It was something I noticed in his previous manga. I'm sad thatbone didn't get far. But those teeth. So dynamic.
-
The really bland art of Vigilante is kind of my barrier to entry. It's all so generic, compared to the distinctive, angular art with heavy shading that Horikoshi's been using. I don't feel any excitement in it.
-
Vigilante has no right being as decent as it is. Knuckleduster is the most entertaining character this franchise has offered in a good while.
Volume 11 continues the tradition of non-Deku focused covers being the best. Horikoshi should stick to more minimalistic covers.

Does anyone think Horikoshi should go with Bleach's formula for volume covers then?

Todoroki, plz….

Well they both didn't pass, can't complain on that.
-
Yeah. Glad they didn't get a pass on that. Their squabble should have been a pretty big deduction.
-
A ridiculously high number of people passed, actually. 89/100.
Cool chapter and better than some of the recent ones. Gang Orca continues to be amazing and Camo Tsuyu is wonderful.
-
Poochie didn't die on the way to his home planet. He just became a hero student.
-
seems that way too many people passed if we count how difficult this exam should have been
-
I wonder if Tsuyu will eventually be able too secrete deadly toxin by turning her body into bright colors.
-

But not by much, though. According to Aizawa the pass rate is less than 5% which would mean less than 77 participants to pass the exam. 89 out of 1540 is still only about 5.8%, so slightly more than anticipated. Chalk it up to this years' UA freshmen being exceptionally promising.
I can't wait to see who else failed the exam out of 1-A, also looking forward to hear from 1-B and to Monoma's reaction when he finds out that Todoroki failed the exam.
-
Part of me feels that the exam wrapped up a bit too quick, but in another way there wasn't going to be too much left to focus on so this works out in the end. I doubt it will happen, but hopefully Todokori and Wind Guy won't be passed suddenly for reasons.
After getting a better look at him this chapter, Gang Orca is just way too awesome. Hopefully he can show up some more later on. Tsuyu with camo powers rocks, and if she learned that I wonder how others have developed over time.

Actually, it was 50%, not 5%, which only further proves the point.

Yep, it's actually 50% as Gliblord and CCC clarified earlier in this thread. So yeah, this year's pass rate is abysmal.
-
Did we actually get confirmation that Todoroki didn't pass though?
-
89 out of 1540 passing is pretty small looking at it that way.
Camo Tsuyu! Forgot some frogs can do that. And, Ojiro did something cool! Surprised we didn't see more members of Class A recusing citizens. Guess the mangaka thought it was boring, too bad.Todoroki didn't pass but no confirmation everyone else did. I think Jirou is only one we didn't see do anything. Wonder if Mystique passed.
-

Prediction: Monoma was the only one who failed.
-
Re: 50%
Bear in mind they took out a gigantic chunk of the examinees in the first phase. The 50/50 rate doesn't really hold given they changed up so much this time.
-
Todoroki's lucky that he's dorming now, or else he would be waiting for some blaze belting action from his father at home.
And I actually predicted a while back that Tsuyu might learn camouflage. Nice!
-
Good stuff overall, overshadowed by how ridiculously, insanely, massively COOL Gang Orca looks. Page 13 is pure drool inducing bliss.
I'll never stop saying this, it's among the 10 best character designs of all time, easily.
And yes, hope Todoroki and Bison do not pass the exam to give their actions enough weight. We know next year they'll make it, and they're not gonna be left out of the meaty stuff in the near-mid future vs the villain association, license or no license (if Horikoshi introduced Bison in such a grand fashion is because he has every intention of putting him in the spotlight sooner rather than later).
-
This exam definitely dragged a bit, but I'm satisfied with its outcome.
Gang Orca will forever be one of my favorites.
-

I still think it's a huge shame that this exam phase didn't focus more on Bakugou tackling rescues. I honestly would have found that more entertaining than the Todoroki v. Inasa fiasco.
-
Holy crap, they actually didn't pass. That makes me happy!
And this is no longer the Licence Exam arc, it's the Gang Orca Arc.
-

Didn't the "Gang Orca Arc" just end?
I am also delighted with Todoroki and Inasa failing. I'm just concerned about the next phases though. Mainly because I can't see there being over two more with this arc's pacing. And while I want to see a bunch of U.A. students realistically fail, I don't know how I would feel about a drop from one in phase three to, as drastic as say, over eight stopping at phase three. Not that this is impossible to realistically happen, but it would cheapen the anticipation of seeing who will pass or not if too many main kids fail at once for the sake of it. I want proper attention focused on how and why they fail, and how it can play a role in future physical and mental development for the rest of the series.
I'm just hoping the last phase isn't a tournament. Horikoshi should be a lot more creative than that. Actually, what types of phases does everybody think the latter phases will be about if this phase was about rescue and protect while the first was about a free for all with strategic ammunition/targeting. And these phases seem to all encourage teamwork ins one fashion as explicitly a few chapters ago.
-
I think we can call Gang Orca the highlight of the entire arc.
-
That is true. Very true. Only way I can see him surpassed is if Best Jeanist shows up just because.
-
Piggybacking off of everyone else's thoughts, the best parts of this chapter were definitely Gang Orca being awesome and Tsuyu's new camouflage ability.
Try as I might, I just don't care about the wind guy's gripe with Todoroki. I know that it's just serving as a lesson for the students to learn from, story-wise, but the way it was presented fell a bit flat for me. I do love to see 1-A working together, though. That's always fun.
-
That spinoff should switch to being Gang Orca related. Just make Knuckleduster his sidekick/"mentor".
-
This is the first arc I've felt that has dragged. It's not that it's bad - I like Todoroki's struggle brought up again and all sorts of small things like the progress some of the characters are making - like the little bit of focus on Jirou, Ochako, Tsuyu and Aoyama have gotten through this for example, I thought Inasa was interesting at first, but for some reason he just hasn't stuck with me.

Isn't this already the end of the license exam?
-
Isn't this already the end of the license exam?
…Oh. Sorry. I got confused from seeing so many people pass and thought it wasn't over. I thought this would be a Sports Festival length arc. I need to read more closely and get more sleep then. XD
-
So….Did I read that right? Orca was wearing some sort of inhibitor?
-
The last pages made me feel like I'm browsing the 'Gang Orca Fanclub/Appreciation Thread'. :P
I'm still confused… is he wearing a killer-whale themed cape over his killer-whalelike head? Or does he somehow have a flappy cape as part of his body?
either way is still awesome
Quote from BnHA's wiki:
@Appearance:Gang is a tall, well-built man, his face just as his quirk shows is similar to a orca whale, he has a tail that resembles a cape. His eyes are located at the place where the "false eyes" that the orcas usually have, showing large pupils surrounded by many rings.
-
So….Did I read that right? Orca was wearing some sort of inhibitor?
Yep. Probably similar to how All-Might wore weights against Deku and Bakugou in the End of Term Test arc. To make things fair.

I do love how the pro heroes are always portrayed as these badasses that are holding back against the kids. Every top hero is cool and I can see them being idolized by the public
-
So… I just noticed something a bit weird. Although I'm willing to bet that this may have been brought up before in this thread (I got into this series during the summer, so my bad if this has already been discussed lol).
!
The official archive book of the series states that Todoroki's blood type is O. And it also states that Endeavor's blood type is AB. Mama Todoroki's blood type is still unknown. However…
!
Regardless of whatever blood type the mother has, it's technically impossible for Shouto to be Enki's biological son despite having both a fire and ice Quirk. Of course, Endeavor's blood type just be a typo due to this being trivial information. Mangaka can be busy people and they may not be able to supervise all of these other works that chronicle the intricacies of their series' characters, events, and lore. And blood typing is relatively unimportant anyhow…
If it wasn't for the fact that blood types have actually played a role for the story during the Stain arc due to Stain's bloodcurdle quirk (where immobilization from Stain ingesting your blood lasts for less time the more distant your blood type is from being type B). And Todoroki specifically being notable for having O-type blood during that fight, the blood type Stain's quirk is weakest on. Given how far Horikoshi plants plot-seeds in the past and how Todoroki's daddy issues are still the focal point of his character arc, I don't think Horikoshi is likely to make or approve of a mistake on this front.
So yeah. Can't wait for My Hero Academia's Maury arc. Maybe we'll finally see Deku's father too lol (who coincidentally has a fire-breathing Quirk... :ninja:). I mean, there are VERY rare cases of O blood types still being diagnosed in cases like these, so I don't know.
-
Yeah … or he didn't know how blood types work, and messed up. Would be interesting if it were the case though.
Also, Todoroki's bloodtype wasn't stated in that fight. Just Midoriya, Iida and Native American Man (
-
Looking over the chapter today as the Viz version comes out and I noticed a detail that hadn't hit me before: As the test is ending, due to the last HUC people being rescued, Kirishima wonders if the sudden end was their doing. In other words, Bakugo's annoyed that he missed out on the action, but the reason he missed out on the action is because his group was rescuing some of the last few people that needed rescuing.
-
@dirt:

Also, Todoroki's bloodtype wasn't stated in that fight. Just Midoriya, Iida and Native American Man (<thisisnothisnameprobably).< blockquote="">You're right about Todoroki's blood type not being mentioned. So that in and of itself is less significant and lends its way for potential error. Although I very much doubt that an author like Horikoshi would forget how blood types work with how meticulous he is about in-universe lore and sci-fi elements lol.
Regardless, I actually hope I'm wrong. Endeavor not being Todoroki's true father would cheapen the latter's character development.</thisisnothisnameprobably).<>
