what do you think the saddest moment in an anime was?
personally i would say the death of colonel Maes Hughes in full metal alchemist. he was such a great character then out of no where they kill him.

I took care of it.
Hmm, the lastest episode of Bleach with Rukia's flashback was sad, it was better than the manga version.

oh god i was just gonna say the same thing in fact that scene was what struck my mind when i read the title of the topic.
and as someone else said doc hilruks death speech was also sad(actualy one of the few scenes that has made me cry)
Master Asia's death was the first thing to ever make me cry at a cartoon(yes american ones either)
Dont forget every moment we hear Sanji's dub voice.
Naruto, episode 100. When Rock Lee feels like his dreams are so totally crushed, and he's so broken hearted and confused…. But then Gai steps in, and totally threw all of Lee's worry and doubt out the window, and assures him that he's not alone with that single phrase. I totally started bawling all over the computer.

As heartwrenching as that was, the events leading upto, and the eventual deaths of Nina/Alexander was unbearably sad. Probably one of the most depressing things I've ever seen watching anime. Even now, Ep. 07 is still a hard pill to swallow. =(
Hughes was the only character in FMA i actually liked…i was really sad when they got rid of him.
I'll avoid posting all the One Piece ones cus theres a fair few.
OTHER animes…
Bleach: when Ichigo realises a hollow was the one that killed his mom
Monster Rancher: Holly finding out who her dad was.
YuGiOh: Mai having her midn ripped from her and each time she lost a monster she'd lose total memory of a friend until she had nothing left. And the bit where Jou tried to protect her but she was unable to reconise who she was.
Naruto: When Lee found out he could never fight again.
loads more... and a non anime one...
Last Unicorn: the whole movie was sad ;-;
For me, it has to be the Hughes moment. He, too, was also my favorite character, obsessing over his daughter and everything. He was a great guy… Why not Roy Mustang, instead!
Maes Hughes; death made me cry a little. The same with that episode: Night of the Chimera's Cry.
Ive got to say it. Bellamy's death was the sadest thing in a tv show that I have ever seen. "I love you" Arlong pulls triger Bam! silloete of blood splatering everywhere and her falling to the ground then the camera cuts to Nami and her sister bawling, ;_; so sad that was the only time I have ever cried because of a show. Even though Zoros past wasent that sad it was the only one my friend didnt ruin so that one had signifigince to me and that one also sorta teared me up.

coughBellemerecough I know what you mean though. I was trying to avoid OP in my answer but in reality nothing can make me cry like that episode can.
Sorry dont have a good memory. I kinda suck at names. Also Choppers past also goes up there to. A real tear jerker for me to.
Grave of the Fireflies - the whole movie.
Ahhh, I've yet to see that one.
Saddest? Um….uh....Joe Yabuki in his corner?
Oh, and Nami stabbing herself. That kinda made me sadder than Bellemere dying.
Grave of the Fireflies - the whole movie.
Saddly me and my friend made fun of that the whole way trhough… btu we were drunk... not since it in years.
@Battle:

Yeah, I strongly argee, That was hard to watch. Sucks ff7 dont count, I would say Aeris (Aerith) death… that was super sad as well, lol.
Serial Experiments Lain, the whole series O_o
When Ash got petrified in "Pokemon: The First Movie" and Pikachu was all like, trying to bring him back to life. Man, my little ten year old soul was bleeding, let me tell you.
Kagero's death in Ninja Scroll. It's so damn sad that she had to die just when she met Jubei, the only man that didn't treat her as an object in her entire life. =(
That's all I can think of at the moment. I bought Grave of the Fireflies recently. I'm kind of scared to watch it knowing it's sad. XD I hear it's very good though.
When Ed and Al transmuted their mother and Al was temporarily killed. Also Belle-me`re's death and Choppers flashback when he was all beaten up…it was reall sad. =(
The last two episodes of Wolfs Rain. I really had to hold back my tears.
@Senshi:
Maes Hughes; death made me cry a little. The same with that episode: Night of the Chimera's Cry.
Those 2 episodes still remained to be the saddest of them all I think, also back when I first saw the last episode of Cowboy Bebop and Spike dies made me sad.
My top 5 :
01. Fruits Basket : Momiji's past in episode 15.
02. Saint Seiya : Shiryu's sacrifice in episode 66
03. One Piece : Hiluluk's sacrifice in episode 86
04. X-TV : Inuki's death and rebirth in episode 18
05. Saint Seiya : Bud's flashback (don't remember which episode it was)

buy a lot of kleenex.
The saddest moments in anime for me:
Chopper's flashback: Really, I cried while reading it, while seeing it and while talking about it. I think I cried more than when it was Nami's which is one of the saddest moment I had seen before.
Huges death was horrible. I didn't see FMA anime, but when I read it I was totally mortified. I mean I tried not to like Huges but when I just started to think he was really cool, he had to die. I'll never like a character the same way again.
Wolfwood's death was really sad. Specially since I was so sure he would've lived until the end of the series.
I didn't see the end of Cowboy Bepop, it's there on my shelf for at least two years, but I never got to finish it. I don't think I want to see the sad ending now though. =(
I thought that the second to last episode of samurai champloo when the guy just walked in and asked him if he had any last words. And he said Fuu I have allways loved you and there is never a day goes by without me thinking about you and your mother. :bawling: soo sad not as sad as other deaths but still sad…
Grave of the Fireflies is the most depressing thing i've ever seen in animation. wonderful but terribly sad. After that i'd say Hiruluk's death made me cry a little. And ep 326 made me bawl my eyes out. I can't really think of anything else that really made me cry except for Raku-En from Trigun.
I can't really think of anything else that really made me cry except for Raku-En from Trigun.
How could I have forgotten that? That was the first time I cried watching an anime. So very depressing.
