A new teaser was recently released (yesterday) for a new IP by BioWare and published by EA. (It's called Shadow Realms, or probably will be, because EA accidentally let it slip out with link name with the words ShadowRealms_Teaser_video.jpg).

Bioware's take on d20 Modern?
Looks like it, at the same time, it will have just enough fantasy and stuff in it if they go with a dream/nightmare theme they seem to be hinting at.
-
I just want to go on the record saying that live-action video game trailers are one of the dumbest things ever invented.

Yep. Agreed. This just seems like a trailer announcing more trailers to me.
-
The trailer really just announces that it's going to be shown at Gamescon, or at least talked about. It also kinda-sorta shows what genre (horror/thriller) they are going for, and the main theme of the game.

I don't think you're the only one that feels this way.

Bioware's take on d20 Modern?
D20 Modern meaning, what? I don't want to see Bioware making another mainstream game of greys and browns in cityscapes with a protagonist in a hoodie carrying a gun. Even if it has a little fantasy overtone.

It's a role-playing game. It's basically D&D for today. There can be fantasy stuff but core d20 modern doesn't have anything. Wikipedia might explain it slightly better.
-
BioWare makes their version of Vampire: The Masquerade. :ninja:

Huh, I guess the D20 refers to dice or something.
If it's anything like the game from the trailer it looks like Mass Effect combined with Dragon Age in a modern setting with a dash of horror.

Please no.

Please no.
I'm telling you now, that's pretty much what it's going to be. But instead of having vampires, it's going to have dream creatures and nightmare monst-on second though, that's not really like The Masquerade at all. Only similarity will be the modern setting, I suppose + the horror-esque theme.
-
A Bioware horror game? I can dig it.
-
Please no.
Was Vampire The Masquerade that bad or is this a Vampires are overexposed rant.
Not that the last bit isn't untrue.
-
If I remember right, David Gaider(Lead writer of DA) mentioned something like people trashing too much or not putting enough stock into Twilight before DAII. Maybe he finally gets to put that writing into practice in an actual vampire setting.

VTMB was an amazing game (even if it was released half finished because of politics) and I don't think Bioware could do the series justice.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! tears of pain

To be fair, he said their version of it rather than a sequel or so.
-
2 more teasers (apparently, I was wrong/sources were wrong about it being horror, Vampire Masquerade meets BioWare, looks like it's going to be a super-power RPG).
Also sounds like they will be…recruited/snatched up by a group that will teach them how to use and control their powers, kinda-sorta like Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters from X-Men.
-
. . . . . . interesting.
Going on the website from the comments I found there's a "topic" on Reddit that's connected to the game called "Seeking Henna":
http://www.reddit.com/r/SeekingHenna/Which revealed a "website" for a school called "Woods-Watson Institute of Higher Learning":

But is it a "darker" X-Men?
-
But is it a "darker" X-Men?
Possibly. Though to be fair, X-Men can get dark sometimes.
The overall premise just sounds so…similar so far. A school for gifted, seemingly younger people, to help unlock and hone their inner potential (because they can't control it 100% yet/don't understand what's going on/danger to themselves and others), probably, with a bad organization or group that doesn't want to hide their powers--they think they are gifts--and believes they are the pinnacle of evolution and should be above those without powers.
Not gonna complain though. I LOVE super powers and abilities, especially when people fight each other with them. Probably my favorite genre out there. It's why I like shonen so much, and comic books.
-
Oh, X-Men can get dark, but Xavier's School is good-aligned. How good is this school? That whole creepy "do you know they are watching?" Dun-dun-duuunnnn!
-

That's a good point actually. lol
But, to be honest, I just get the feeling that they could be like…the organization that recruits the player-character, the organization you see pop up in almost every BioWare game. The Jedi Order in The Knights of the Old Republic, the Grey Wardens in DA: Origins and the Inquisition in DA: Inquisition (though technically, you're the leader), The Spectres in Mass Effect etc. Call me a cynical, I suppose.
BioWare tends to follow similar trends throughout their catalogue of games.
-
Very true. But maybe this is the first time they're trying to go against the grain.
-
This is all just a part of frog fractions 2.

We'll see. In a way, I hope you're right. Even though I like BioWare games, and the formula they use, that, makes you know it's a BioWare game, I want them to go at least a bit outside of their comfort zone, like they did with Mass Effect (i.e. using shooter mechanics). This time though, they need to go out of their story path comfort zone.
-
It's going to be an MMO. It reminds me of the Secret world.

C](http://kotaku.com/biowares-newest-rpg-is-called-shadow-realms-1620677999)onfirmed that the game is called Shadow Realms. Has a multiplayer component (not an MMO).
-
Is it a Yugioh spin-off?
-
So disappointing.
-
Well, this looks absolutely awful and unimaginative.
-
4v1 multiplayer co-op. Sorry Bioware, it's not my thing, even if the story sounds interesting.
-
Wow this sounds bland as shit, but the 4v1 thing sounds kinda interesting. I probably won't get it, but I'm curious how they tend on utilizing this mechanic in a sort of long-ish, narrative driven/world-building/roleplaying Bioware type of game.
-
I give them props for trying something new, since they can't just pump out Mass Effect and Dragon Age sequels all the time, but I just don't do co-op or MMOs.
-
So much for those live-action trailers. -
Well that's highly anticlimatic.
-
Cancelled eh? Not too surprising. At PAX they were talking about having a new thing to announce that they couldn't talk about yet… and there hasn't been any info on this for 6 months.
But I dunno, I liked the pen and paper D&D dungeon master idea keeping things fresher than AI can manage combatwise, though I'm not sure at all how story implementation would go.
Granted, story and character is the Bioware bread and butter, far less so than their combat.. which is decent but not amazing.
Oh well, new thing might be better!
Should I bing up the fact that at the panel I was at, they joked about a Dragon Age/Mass Effect cross over?
(at least, I'm pretty sure it was a joke...) -
I'm assuming no one will miss this.
-
…I thought it looked interesting?
But given the universal reaction seems to be "good, didn't care anyway" I guess scrapping it was the way to go.

Maybe EA should do that for the next NBA Live game that won't be up to snuff.
-
I'm actually kinda looking forward to this. Mostly for nostalgia reasons of Rifts campaigns my friend used to run. They kinda had the same setting and feel.

Err well the game is cancelled, actually.

Aww. Well, nevermind then.
