I thought the Pixar animated short was going to win, but Mr. Hublot was a very pleasant surprise. Very charming, humorous, and original.

Pretty good choices overall, I think MU is much better than Frozen, though.

The Blue Umbrella wasn't even nominated; the nominees were:
Get a Horse
Mr. Hublot
Feral
Possessions
Room on the BroomThe Blue Umbrella was an also ran along with The Missing Scarf (George Takei alone should have gotten it a nomination) and A La Francaise.

Did Nebraska actually win anything? I kinda like June Squibb. She reminds of Betty White, in a way.
also this:
-
Before actually reading this thread: this is how I feel about leo not winning again

Well, that's that. Ellen did ok by my book. She wasn't over the top and she wasn't boring. She kept the whole evening comfortably down the middle. She had her bright spots like that pizza gag and twitter pic. The monolouges…ehh, not so much.
Congrats to all the winners and for the most part I think I got my predictions correct. I'll update my first post to see how I did. It's past 12 here. Goodnight.
Also, was it just me or does anyone else think 'Let It Go' was butchered?
Yeah Menzel sounded off at he beginning but she finished strong.

People seriously type that Monsters University should've won an Oscar…?
What... new it did? How did it push the boundaries of animation?
Frozen did the snow and the overall picture was superb. Ernest & Celestine had great traditional animation and Wind Rises absolutelly killedin all categories, but... Monsters University? Eh. It was just an okay movie.
-
And the winner for Best Actor goes to….
Matthew Mc-WHAT?
I'm sorry, ummm...Matthew McConaughey.
Yeah…pre-Dallas Buyers Club I pretty much wasn't a fan of any of his movies.....but hey, he surprised me with this one. Good for him.

Well it pushed the boundaries of particle effects, particularly in relation to fur and grass, but it hardly deserves the oscar for that.
-
honestly if you saw the comments on the Animated category voting, its a wonder anything won in that category at all
-
For everyone crying for Di Caprio, he has a lot of nominations in his belt to feel proud for a lifetime. But if you want to rage for plain robbery, look not further than Gary Oldman´s career. Only ONE nomination, no winnings. The Academy needs to give him some respect.
-
Maybe we can all chip in and make him a winner of "Internet Loves you Leo"? We can the prize The Lolcats. Also give one to Keanu Reeves.
-
One thing that should be mentioned: Now that he has won an Oscar for Best Original Song, Robert Lopez is now part of the exclusive EGOT club. AKA: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony award winners club. Including him, there are only 12.
-
Don't forget the award for best photobomb.
-
Don't care for oscars or any award shows, but this right here - this is special.

Does anyone actually think Leo deserved it for the Wolf of wall street? I mean don't get me wrong i like the movie, and i like Leo in it, but honestly neither Leo nor the movie were amazing. As far as I can tell the only reason feel he should have won is because he never has.
McConaughey deserved it this year, and i find this whole internet thing claiming Leo deserved it ridiculous, he might have been robed previous years (I don't necessarily agree with that but arguments could be made) but this year, regardless of any bias the academy toward Leo, he didn't deserve it this year.
And who cares what the academy thinks anyway, its just a big circle jerk were Hollywood pats its self on the back and advertises its films. Not to mention the academy its self was created to fuck over people working within the industry and help implement a closed union, the awards were just there keep people happy and skew the film industry in the direction they wanted. So hey don't take it so seriously. -
He didn't deserve it.
-
Jonah: Hold back the tears, Leo. You can do it.

Damn right Bill, you're damn right.
-
Damn, Bill's gotten old.
-
So, yeah, just saw 12 Years a Slave with a bunch of friends.
It was a solid movie, although I must say I was expecting maybe a little bit more after reading bits of Frederick Douglass's descriptions of his time in captivity a few days ago. Like, the movie itself was good, but I somehow felt like it didn't manage to portray the worst oppression of slavery and nigger-breaking or the completely downtrodden mindset of the slaves themselves. And at parts it felt like the people in it weren't as miserable as they maybe should have been? For that, it probably wouldn't have won the Oscars that it did had there been a true masterpiece movie this past year.
But yeah, other than that, it's a great movie and I do recommend watching it to everyone. Any movie that manages to make you emotional is a good one in my books, and 12 Years definitely does that.

His face has aged a lot, but everything else about him seems the same since the 80's.

So hey don't take it so seriously. As far as I can tell no one here is taking the oscars that seriously. Some people care, some people don't, but no one is throwing a fit. As for the whole Leo shut out I'm probably not going out on a limb by saying mostly everyone knew Leo wasn't going to win. I'm sure some people wanted him to win but knew it was a long shot. It's like you said, it's a whole "internet thing." It's a "thing" to root for Leo as a fan/internet favorite and on the flipside part of that dynamic involves making fun of him/his situation when doesn't win, which was obvious this year. It's a "thing" no one here at least is taking seriously.
Why is it a thing? I don't know but it's funny.
-
How ironic that Will Smith is presenting the award for Best Picture.
I wonder if he went to pick up his Razzie award for After Earth.
And damn I didn't know people were upset a Leonardo DiCaprio not winning best actor. I guess Leo will have to be content with his two Golden Globe awards.
-
How can you vote for a movie you haven't seen? The hell? With this and the animated category, why do people still take this award seriously?
-
It's the Oscars, this isn't Cannes.
