Gladius devil fruit has awoken…or not!
Chapter 785: Even if my legs were broken…

yep would love to see luffy fight another pure physical fighter again since he normally out classes everyone else in CQC.
Which has been the norm since the start of manga .Its cool to re-read Chinjao vs Luffy after seeing gear fourth.
Chinjao mocked Luffy for even thinking he can challenge anybody of big caliber while he cannot beat even Chinjao who is past his prime.
After those words - along with Chin mentioning Ace - Luffy simply overpowered Chinjao with one Gear Third move and it was the end of this fight.
Chinjao gotten his head back and people were wondering if Luffy would beat him if he had his spiky head since start of fight - with gear fourth Luffy would counter Chinjaos head without any problem, same as he countered Athle-ito in previous chapter. Then a lot later we get to see Chinjao pointing he is not good as he didnt recovered from fight with Luffy, Lao G ending as fighter that was bit too much for Chin to deal with.
Long story short I think that Luffy with his Gear Fourth should now be considered to be on par with likes of Ace or Prime Chinjao - so over 500mln bounty, world know legendary pirate.
This is nice setup for him meeting up Shanks I think. He is now worthy of being called Great Pirate.
Gladius devil fruit has awoken…or not!
Those mines that he set up on walls might be his awakening effect. Rest doesnt go beyond paramecia abilities boundries I think.
I hope that in next volumes SBS we will get Doflamingos family members Devil Fruits list along with note of if power was "awakened".As for "Awakened" Devil Fruit powers that we seen in past I would say that Crocodile with his
- Ground Death (浸食輪廻(グラウンド・デス) Guraundo Desu?, literally translated as "Cycle of Erosion")__: An extremely strong version of Ground Secco. Crocodile not only dries up the ground, but anything and everything on it including people and even buildings, all of which is transformed into sand if it has steady contact with the ground. The speed at which things dry also seemingly increases. In the 4Kids dub, this attack is calledWasteland Cataclysm.[15]****
He is number one candidate for being cosidered first guy in manga to show us awakened power.
-
After the end of the fight between Doflamingo and Luffy - and we all know it will take another forty minuets and we all know that Luffy will win - will Doflamingo:
(1) flee with very last strength?
(2) be knocked down and imprisoned by Fujitora?
((3) be dead as Ace?)
(4) do something totally unexpected?I put 3 in braces because this will most likely not gonna happen.
-
I think Akainu is almost certainly awoken.
One does not simply create Mordor. -
I think Akainu is almost certainly awoken.
One does not simply create Mordor.I don't think so. That DF is just naturally ridiculous.
-
I don't think so. That DF is just naturally ridiculous.
A devil fruit can be ridiculously overpowered, it's a fair point but I think when he said Mordor he meant how much ground it can cover as it's area of effect expands. I certainly think it's awoken. Besides maybe you'll agree all the admirals have awakened theirs but we simply haven't seen it in action but I think with at least Kuzan we've seen it, especially in film Z others are probably more hinted at than anything. Also, is Magellan's Red demon form an awakening?

After Doffy's defeat I think it is fair to say that Luffy should be recognised as being on the same par as Sabo and Ace, I don't rate Chinjao to be honest whether he is young or old, if the WG try and fail to keep Doffy's fall quiet I would expect a big increase in bounty for him, perhaps up to 500m. Luffy is not legendary yet as that is reserved for Roger, Whitebeard and Rayleigh.
Can't wait for Jimbei to join up, what an excellent new member he will be. All that's missing now is a logia but as we know they are not quite the big deal they once were. Makes me wonder if Sabo and Law will stick around for longer, especially if the rest of the straw hats have been taken by Big Moms Crew or are in trouble in some way.
Mind you will be hard to leave Dressrosa with no ship so I am hoping the rest of the crew will return at the end otherwise I am not sure how they will get to next destination.
I think Burgess is going to try a smash and grab, but he will be the one smashed.
-
So taking in consideration that the 78th volumne will have the final page of Doffy being defeated, it`s either the next or the chapter after that, that the fight will be finished.
Rooting for a twelve-chapter volumne, especially when we see Zoro stopping the birdcage will be the "highlight" of the next chapter, covered in Luffy taking a beating so that he is almost done, like Doffy.
The chapter after that could be Luffy mobilising his last power and beating Doffy. -

I think Doffy is too valuable as a villain to kill outright and his death would serve no real purpose unlike Ace's.
I don't think he will flee due to the extent of his injuries, he will either be captured by the marines or the revolutionaries, outside chance he gets snatched by Burgess or that Burgess snatches his fruit if he does die. According to Law Doffy is going to die from his injuries, if he does his fruit will transfer and be grabbed by Burgess who will then be defeated by Sabo, would love for Luffy to get the fruit and maybe give it to Sanji. With how Doffy was able to handle Sanji I think he may be tempted to eat it.

The chapter after that could be Luffy mobilising his last power and beating Doffy.I absolutely see it like that as well.
That kind of ending and pacing of last two chapters would make volume pretty much perfect.
Next one starting with Burgess taking action, Dressrosa wrap up and then few chapters given to Sanji being amazing ending up with crew getting to Zou.After Doffy's defeat I think it is fair to say that Luffy should be recognised as being on the same par as Sabo and Ace, I don't rate Chinjao to be honest whether he is young or old, if the WG try and fail to keep Doffy's fall quiet I would expect a big increase in bounty for him, perhaps up to 500m. I have mixed feelings about Jinbei joining to be honest. I cant put a finger on what makes me feel bit weird about Jinbei sailing along with Strawhats.
Maybe its because he isnt crazy as they are, dunno.Other than that I think that as "Legendary" pirate we can take anybody who can be captured/beaten by no less than Admiral.
It seemed to be the case with Chinjao 30 years ago.Burgess will probably wait till the very end of fight to go after Luffy, he has intention of killing Luffy or beating him up even more and taking to Blackbeard for Devil Fruit extraction(possibly).
-
Would be great if Law join strawhats along with his entire crew and they sailed side by side, one crew underwater in their submarine and the other on the surface. I mean they'd have to do something like that if they're going to successfully take out Kaido, no?

I like Jimbei and him being a fishman plus being a top level fighter makes his joining a no brainer. Will see what Burgess does he currently does not know he is being watched, seems if he does fight he will be Sabo's opponent unless he goes for Law who is being guarded by Cavendish. I think that Oda must have left Cavendish guarding Law for a reason. After his failure of securing the mera mera fruit Burgess will be looking to take someone else's instead, Law's or Doffy's would be a big steal for him although if it was for his own use he may actually prefer Luffy's as it would suit his fighting style better.

Luffy is at the end of Gear Four and there are forty minutes left to fight. Doflamingo doesn't seem to be this exhausted yet. And Luffy isn't either. This fight will be a near death fight.
In the next chapter or the chapter after that we will see a Doflamingo counterattack and a Luffy struggling. Has Luffy even spilled blood, yet? -
I think Croc has quite good chances of having his fruit awakened.
Not because of any attacks he used, but instead of the climate change on the whole island. My guess is awakened logias can influence the climate of an environment permanently like at Punk Hazard. That is, unless they get unconcious. That would explain the rain immediately after his fainting.

So as I think that Luffy will of course get into near deth situation in last bit of a fight, it will be because of how dangerous Doflamingo is even with his basic moves and how dangerous his devil fruit ability is.Perhaps Doflamingo was not immobilizing G4 Luffy during their fight because CoA hardening covering around half of Luffys body was protecting him from thin, invisible strings that Doflamingo uses to immobilize his enemies.
Or maybe it is CoC haki thing as there is possibility that with CoC Luffy could escape Mingos string trap. I expect that string trap being used by Doffy in last bit of fight. -

I am wondering if Luffy, Law and Sabo may sail together as the three of them with Zoro would be a potent force indeed.
It depends on Oda's pacing really, if Luffy's crew don't return to Dressrosa then they will need a ship, I would think there will be plenty of offers from Chinjao or Orlumbus or Sabo as he must have sailed to Dressrosa as well.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh! Awakening!
Moria's abilities in Marineford make sense now! -
@One:
No no. That will be way too fast.
Luffy is at the end of Gear Four and there are forty minutes left to fight. That countdown won`t come to zero, because that would mean that all the people and stuff would be concentrated at the center, without having room to fight.
Also Zoro is going to stop it in the next chapter anyways.@One:
Has Luffy even spilled blood, yet?
Just here and there the usual blood coughing after Doffy used some attacks like Overheat.
It´s so far more the exhaustion of using his techniques, that´s why it would be necessary to see Doffy beating him up badly in the next chapter.
By that we get the feeling of a fight between life and death and seeing what Doffy had to compensate so far, Luffy likely will also be covered in blood next chapter. -
I had the same exact thought, as it would explain his knowledge (and obsession?) regarding Devil Fruits… but then I remembered that, after creating a sandstorm, he himself said that he could not control it anymore :/
About Darth (I guess he'll still be lurking and reading from time to time):
1)- Without sarcasm, and really sincerely: I do hope to see (read) you around here in the future --just with a different tone.
2)-

So as I think that Luffy will of course get into near deth situation in last bit of a fight, it will be because of how dangerous Doflamingo is even with his basic moves and how dangerous his devil fruit ability is.Well, who took more damage or not is up to debate, especially when we consider how many fights they had already during that day. (Doffy vs Law at Green Bit; Luffy vs Chinjao etc.)
It´s more to showcase the struggle more clear.
Both are fighting with their full power by now and in the end they should both be near death to make that struggle visible.
Luffy aint covered in blood or isn
t barely able to stand so far, so Doffy most likely will land some hits on him, especially when "turning the tide" is likely after Gear 4 just wrecked Doffy.
Doffy´s basic moves with his strings, like he showed against Law, and some awakening-stuff could get this job done while being visual appealing.Perhaps Doflamingo was not immobilizing G4 Luffy during their fight because CoA hardening covering around half of Luffys body was protecting him from thin, invisible strings that Doflamingo uses to immobilize his enemies.
Or maybe it is CoC haki thing as there is possibility that with CoC Luffy could escape Mingos string trap. I expect that string trap being used by Doffy in last bit of fight.I definitely think that this "holding his opponent with his strings"-thing will come into play. That or parasite.
By using that Luffy will be hurt badly(near to death), but it also gives the opportunity to show CoC in some new way, showing that because of this Luffy will be able to break free.
Would explain why he was able to hold Jozu and Sanji, while Luffy finally using CoC for something useful(much needed for future events), will break those chains^^But that`s all just fanfictioning, so the scenario might differ with CoC not coming into play, which would be a missed opportunity in my eyes but it´s not necessary for the fight.
Afterall CoC could just be the power that people will follow you, like Doffy being followed of his loyal executives from a young age on, and Luffy obviously finding on each island people that will stand by his side during the final war. (but i would like having a useage for CoC in a boss-fight^^)PS: Don`t be amazed sabinis, i just deleted it, to differ it a bit, and than real life kept me busy for a while

What did Moria do that needed explaining again?
Make mutant zombies rise from under the Marineford plaza.
But maybe Hogback stitched those humans and animals together beforehand and Sengoku allowed Moria to destroy the old pavement, bury the zombies in and pave the plaza again, so that Moria can call on them mid-battle. Seems legit to me.
Oh and bye Darth. I liked you. And it didn't even bother me when I disagreed with you. I must be mature or something. :ninja:
-
I think Akainu is almost certainly awoken.
One does not simply create Mordor.Agreed. When we first found out that Akainu and Aokiji changed the environment permanently I thought it sounded cool but to create an active volcano just seemed like too much. It really didn't sit well with me. Now however I can totally buy it if it came from an awakened ability, it just makes more sense now. Still not sure how I feel about awakens abilities as a whole but if it explains creating a working volcano that last for years then ok I'm more open to the idea.
-
Oda probably felt that fights have become too Haki-reliant, so he introduced this "Awakening" thing. That part, I welcome. But I really dislike what I've seen from this Awakening thing so far from Doflamingo.

As i see it Doffy is able to reach the level of awaking because of exactly who he is, a broker that trade in devil fruit which he seems to put more emphasis on. He seems to go to the extra miles just in terms of his devil fruit research and all. If you are in any business the first thing to do is to know the product you are selling and that will help you in becoming an excellent salesman. I can't see just anybody achieving awaking i think it will be reserved for top level guys who pursue the mastering of their fruit, as Doffy said countless times "Devil fruits are wonderful things" more so when you know the fruit's abilities. Also i think he have some secrets as it relates to devil fruits why he is able to do what he does. We must also remember that he have a aim which involve devil fruit so when Ope Ope went missing he may have spent his time thinking of alternatives.
Can we also say that Vegapunk might have use the awaking of devil fruit to transfer the devil into inanimate objects and why weapons are able to eat devil fruit seeing that the form can impact the environment. I would also like to add that at some point Doffy and Croc were involved and the reason why he knows about awakened zoans and mastering your devil fruit power. h involvement may stem from the fact that both wants to rule the world but never got to work together as they have their own carisma.
-
I think that Awakening a fruit may be some form of 'enlightenment'. I remember when Oda said that if a human ate the human fruit he'd be an enlightened man or something and Awakening immediately made me think of that. If you've ever heard of a spiritual or transcendental experience on shrooms and other hallucinogens, you'll know they experience a 'oneness' with their surroundings and nature. It's something like being enlightened, not just intellectually but emotionally, to the fact that your body is made up of the same elemental material as everything around you and when the person under the influence realizes how small a part of their own identity their mind plays they experience what is called ego death.
I think this might be the angle Oda is taking here. I don't think it's intended to be a reference to a drug trip, but the underlying philosophy of connectedness itself which is a part of a lot of mystical traditions. It definitely fits in with haki, the ability to hear things, and the other semi-spiritualistic powers that exist in the OP world. It may be that Haki mastery is a requirement for this Awakening to occur.
When Doflamingo says a whole new world opens up to those with Awakened powers, I'm not sure it means the potential of fruits is limitless or anything. It probably just means that it allows for greater tactical flexibility. I am pretty sure Oda intends to keep the power scaling reasonable.

nobody paid attention to my post so i'll say it again .
i dont think doffy is turning buildings into strings , those buildings were already strings , i totally see him try to confuse luffy playing mindtricks ( cloning the straw hats for example )
now i hope the next chapter will give us more explanations about this awakening thing -

I expect same stuff from CoC being bit more fleshed out before fight ends as Luffy was said to be most talented in CoC.
Zoro was said to have great CoA - he shown it off, Luffy showing off his CoC is almost a given same as Sanji showing more from his CoO specialty.I dont expect Luffy getting very close to death this time but I guess him taking some slashing moves to the chest - like 5 Shaded Strings that Sanji tanked - is a must when it comes to "no no gear 4th" vs Doflamingo that we will get next chapter.
As for my "amazement" - I dont remember any other time that quote notification was leading to post without quote, thats all - no biggie

That makes even less sense , so the whole city was strings for what reason ?
Not to mention with the damage going in the city they would have gone back to strings a long time ago.
Then there is pica to think about and Don making strings appearing form no where.EDIT Franky will help stop the bird cage also wonder what he going to come up with.

now i hope the next chapter will give us more explanations about this awakening thingI don't think it's impossible but Oda doesn't usually have his characters lie when it comes to detailing the "logic" or "sciences" behind this world. Especially when it's regarding abilities and their explanation. It's just something he keeps pretty straight forward so us forum goers have something to understand and put together with a little piece every time.

Oh. I just assume he prepared for the fight beforehand. I'm not sure Moria has the talent to get that far with his abilities..
Felt like a brain fart from Oda's side. Suddenly Moria raises corpses from all the past battles in Marineford. Corpses which were just left dead and they paved stone on top of them. And, accidentally, they're half horses, bears or whatnot and have functioning guns and stuff. And traces of stitching. I just pretended it didn't happen.
And no, awakening can't explain it.

I think that when koala said " so this is Jesus burgess the one that was after lufgy kun" may be referring to when Jesus was only going after Lucy in the corrida match because he thought it was puffy until sabo revealed his fighting style and then his face. I don't think she has any insight as to what he is up to at the moment because right afterwards she wondered what he is after. He may be after puffy but I doubt it
-
The more interesting part about Luffy is he needs to get stronger with his gear 2/3

Gladius devil fruit has awoken…or not!
His Awakening would probably be being able to burst stuff without having to touch them.

Could be he brought those corpses with him and put them there in advance.
You know, battle preperation. -
Awakened Devil Fruits - i Doubt it means you just get the ability to play with the landscape and your power, but more of a full mastery of your abilities to their fullest.
Robin - Is her power already awakened after the time skip with the ability to make the GIANT feet and clones now?
Chopper - Awakened is his Giant Weredeer form?
Brook - What the hell would be his awakened form? Ability to give another person a 2nd chance? how many people would die before he got it to work? lol
Luffy - couldnt his Gears already be awakened form of his powers? as they are unique and only usable by him, as a showing of full mastery over his fruits abilities. i think gear 4 pretty much already is an awakened form -

I'm guessing the reason we had a "20 minutes later" moment was because Oda realised that 1 hour time limit wasn't workable at all. So our final fight in this arc just had 20 minutes of Luffy off-screen fighting against someone with supposed superior abilities due to his awakening.
It was definitely workable. Those minutes could have been fulfilled with battle. Instead of stealing from the audience with off-panel story telling.
-

You actually wasting brain cells on that… Lol
-
I thought 20 minutes thing was 20 minutes since the birdcage started to shrink.
-
There is also that soul thing Brook did it.
-
There are two things that were established early on in this arc that have yet to bear fruit, namely:
1.) Doflamingo doesn't underestimate his enemies.
- Doflamingo likely still has a trump card in hand. My guess would be that he has a stored vial of Mansherry tears that will effectively act as a senzu bean for Doflamingo. This way Luffy has his Gear 4 victory, but is still in a dire situation. Which leads to….
2.) Will of D versus Tenryuubito
- A big deal was made of D's being the natural enemy of the Tenryuubito earlier on in the arc. It seems likely that this is referencing something deeper than just Luffy and Doflamingo fighting. My guess is that Doflamingo is going to be in the process of delivering a finishing blow to Luffy only to be blocked by a sudden D empowered Luffy.
Basically, I'm expecting the Will of D to grant Luffy some sort of short lived Super Saiyan-esque powerup - something that Doflamingo never could have accounted for in his planning. Unlike DBZ though, I wouldn't expect Luffy to have control over his D powerup until the end of the series.
