The number of attacks they did from the wings were relatively low as compared to the successful ones and yeah as you had mentioned it wasn't the proper crosses played from wide positions too which stretches the defense but rather a more compact version of it. Proper wingplay also includes overlapping fullbacks, who in this case, cut inside to play more in the central midfield area. I guess Lahm's flank runs are getting very less frequent as compared to how it was before. Perhaps his modified role in Bayern might have aided the coach for making that decision.
Yeah, I was just pointing out that Germany still use their width successfully, rather than just all attacks coming down the centre.
Lahm's getting older and he just can't keep up the same work-rate on the wing that he had when he was younger.
They've managed to take that into account and continue to play to his strengths, the right thing to do.

I feel like if this ends in PKs Brazil should just get a rematch against Germany in the finals. I mean, I rooting for the Netherlands and all (though Germany has been my money pick from the start) but come on.

Oh man this sucks. Van Gaal made the wrong call by sending in Huntelaar instead of saving the third switch for Krul. Well fuck. Can't be helped. Netherlands stopped playing well in the last game and this time it came to bite them in the ass. Now Germany will take this cup; deservedly so after yesterday's performance.
