Battalion Wars (Advance Wars too)

Well Battalion Wars is coming out soon and I'm pretty stoked. I can't belive I said "stoked" Anyways it's already got it's first rating, an 8.8 from IGN. So that's good. Okay and I can't tell if it's because I live in Canada that the release date is different for us. Apparently it's coming out the 19th, while we Canadians have to wait until the 21st. I'm going to try my best to buy it the first day.

I also included Advance Wars in the topic as well because Battalion Wars is based on it. I've only played the first one, and it was totally a sleeper hit. The first Advance Wars was what got me into war strategy games. So I figured I should pay some homage to it. I was going to buy the second game on the GBA a little while ago but I can't seem to find it anymore which sucks.

If I had a DS I'd get the DS one too. The fact you get to use two COs is intriguing to me. That and well I just plain want a DS.

I've played both Advance Wars games on the GBA… and I'm currently addicted to the DS version (I cant stop playing it XD)

so this is going to be one game I'll definitly pick up.

As for Battalion Wars, I'm not touching that. I used to be at an Advance Wars fansite when I saw the early stuff when it was being placed in the Advance Wars series. It was not pretty, both fan response and pictures.

Okay I just bought Battalion Wars, a tad more than I would've liked to pay for a game (in general) but I don't regret it for a minute. I've only played like 5 minutes of it, I plan to get more playing time when I'm done with my work and some studying for my upcoming chapter test in Japanese.

But in that 5 minutes of playing time (minus the opening movie) I must say I like it. I'm sure when I play more I'll be able to say I love it. The little sprites are just so cute, I'm amazed how they can run with such big feet. I'm really not trying to think of the game right now because I really need to concentrate on school work, but I can't wait til I play some more :laugh:

I'll give BW a go, i don't like the COs, though. I prefer the traditional strategy games that I luff too much.

I'm not touching it either, sorry. How cool it would had been if it was a… errr... 'Cube' Wars. Oh well, perhaps there will a 'Revolution' Wars, now that there will be an excellent remote for that and all.

It looks a lot better than I thought it'd be, but I'm too busy and I'm not too interested so I'll probably try a rental when I'm not busy (which won't be for a damn long time).

Dunno why the lack of love for BW. I just finished playing through the first 2 missions, and I think it's really fun. I accidently blew up my troops… so my ranking is kinda low. I had to fight a fairly large swarm of troops all by my onesy.

To anyone playing BW does anyone know who voices Brigadier Betty? I'm trying to figure it out but I just can't seem to pin her.

On to the topic of Advance Wars, the first one. Does anyone have tips on how to beat that very first mission you fight against Drake? It's been a lot time since I tried that mission, I kinda quit because it was frustrating me to no end.

Also which CO do you like using out of Andy, Sami and Max.

I'll be renting this after I get through the huge backlog of games I have to deal with right now, if only because I love the two GBA games.

Dual Strike makes me want a DS… in fact, looking at the decent price and nice line-up of games coming out, I would say there's a damn good chance I'll get one eventually.

Max, I like having large attack power, but out of all CO's in the Advance Wars series, I love Grit the most (since Indirect attacks RAWK XD)

soon I'll have to pick up BW, I looked at the official website, and it looks very fun. probably after I get the DS games I want (Damn Nintendo, they release 4 games that I want in the same month.. =_= they're so evil…)

I love using Max, just the sheer power of his units, I'm more of a direct attacker so it doesn't really matter that Max get penelized with long range attacks.

Man now I'm gonna put Advance Wars in my GBA so I can start playing it again. Is there any way to erase all of the data to start completely fresh?

I want a DS XD I'm drooling over the games, but I'm not gonna be able to pick one up until after Christmas, trying to save money for presents (yes I think ahead). I suppose any games after now I can hopefully get my sisters to get them for me for Christmas or my Birthday… hehe I'm thinking but I want Fire Emblem... oh cruel world why can't you just let me win the lottery so then I wouldn't have to worry about money for awhile?!

Out of the Orange Star COs, I like Max the best. Though I have much more love towards Blue Moon which, like all armies other than Black Hole and Orange Star, only get one new CO each sequel. Olaf, Grit, and Colin rule massively. I can either slow the enemy down with snow, pick them off from a distance, or do the Advance Wars version of a Zergling Rush with cheap ass units.

And I don't like Battalion Wars (I don't like that kind of game), but Advance Wars is fun. =) I got a DS just for AW:DS. :lol: Hawke, Grit, and Andy are my favorite COs and their Alternate Costumes rock. =)

I THINK you have the option of choosing who you're using, it's been a LONG time since I've played it, I just remember it's the first one you're fighting against Drake. It's kinda like a ring map, long bridges and there might be a island in the middle.

I rented BW today..
I've only beaten the first 3 missions.. but its good!

I dont like it as much as the GBA/DS games.. but its still fun.

Oh I think the 4th one is the one you get to drive a light recon car, it's fun, but really sensetive to steering, that and you can't shoot. It'll auto shoot anything behind you, that's about it right now. Wait until you have to take on the Iron 8, I had to go all Rambo style with an Anti-Air Missile unit. sniffle he was all by his onesy, thank god everyone leaves a medical pack.

I really wanna play at the moment… but well stupid psych midterm. pout I'm not getting much studying done right now at the computer... whistles :glare:

I played the first Advance Wars back when it came out, but I missed out on all the others.

I plan on getting a DS pretty soon (mainly for Gunstar Super Heroes and Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow) so I might try to get caught up with the Advance Wars series.

I bought Dual Strike, and have been playing it a lot. It's the first AW game I've played, and I greatly enjoy it.

My fave CO is probably either Sami or Jake. Sami is just awesome because I like using infantry tactics and taking the enemy base, and Jake makes me happy to whoop on the Black Hole forces. I get all, "WHASSUP BLACK HOLE!?!" and finish them off.

I played BW, and it's better than I thought, but… >_> It's so hard... (That kind of strategy is really hard to me for some reason...)

And I DESPISE Jake. The mix of ganster/NoA censorship = NO. :ohmy:

on Advance Wars DS,, I can usually always beat a mission on my first try (even with heavy casualtys)

Battalion Wars…. I passed first 3 missions on my first try... after that.. I lose each mission atleast once.

I'm finding it very difficult, I guess I'm just not used to real-time strategy.. (I set two units in an area until I'm ready to use them... and I find out the enemy has found and killed them.. very hard)

on the mission (5 or 6 I think) where you have to destroy the enemies 8 tanks, I got a 0% on timing, because I ended up taking over an hour to finish the mission (but I did it with style! and I got an 98% on Power to boot!)

Haha yeah that's the Iron 8, 8 flippin Heavy Tanks. I dare you to just use a (Anti-Air) Missile troop XD, I've been able to get my score from a 22% this was the first time I played it and won it with my Missle troop because everyone was dead… to about like 60%, or did I get it higher, I don't entirely remember, but I do remember that my speed was like 98% technique was like 55% and power was 82%, havent' played in awhile because of stupid midterms.

I've gotten ONE 100% one but that was after playing it a couple times, I think it was the 3rd mission. Wait til you get to fly a plane, helicopters are easier to handle than the fighters, and bombers are just cool. At least the helicopters stop in the air and hover if you let go of the stick, while fighters just keep going and going which makes it hard to turn around.

I like a challenge in games… but there comes a point where a game is TOO HARD TO PLAY..
I seriously cant enjoy it.. I get defeated multiple times on many levels..
the one level I had trouble on, I lost 10 times before finally beating it..
