Now that I've got your attention, welcome to the new mafia thread! If you're a returning player/moderator, hurry up and create/join a game already. If you're new, welcome! We have prepared a welcome package for you which may or may not contain live, wriggling things. Ask no questions, but read on!
Whether you've been playing mafia elsewhere for aaaaaages or have no idea what this is (we do not speak in funny accents but we do shoot people; sunglasses are optional), we warmly welcome you. Mafia is a game of instinct and wits, but it's also a lot of fun and not as heavy as it might look. The most important thing here is to have fun and always lynch/kill Nectar.
Basic framework of mafia is as such: There are generally two factions, Mafia and Town. Mafia's goal is to kill Town, Town's goal is to lynch Mafia (although Townies may sometimes have killing powers). Some games are vanilla, meaning that there are no abilities beyond these basic ones. Other games are more complex and both Townies and Mafia might have special abilities. Ask us if you want to know more!
More Rules: (basic ground rules, subject to change based on the moderator and their intended setup)
! 1 - To Vote Lynch someone, you need to write "Vote: [Name of the user you want to Vote Lynch]" or "Vote Lynch: [Name of the user you want to Vote Lynch]", you may also vote for a No Lynch by writing "Vote: No Lynch", if the majority votes No Lynch, the day ends without any lynch.
! 2 - You may Unvote or Change your vote, but you can only do so by saying "Unvote" and "Change Vote: [Name of the user]" (or "Change Vote Lynch: [Name of the user]"
! 3 - As soon as the majority is reached, it immediately counts as a lynch, even if the moderator was away, unvoting or changing your vote won't change anything. When the mod comes back, it will count as a lynch
! 4 - Don't PM anyone about this game, especially players (alive or dead), only Mafia can speak about the game outside of the thread, and even then, its only between themselves
! 5 - Don't copy paste or printscreen the PM's you receive from the mod. You are free to paraphrase them (and fake them), but you may not copypaste them or printscreen them
! 6 - Dead men tell no tales, don't speak here if you're dead, wait until the end of the game
! 7 - Sleeping men tell no tales, don't speak here at night, you're still free to PM your Mafia Partner if you're Mafia, though
! 8 - Do not edit your posts when the game officially starts, or there will be moderator action.
! I'll be an assholerather annoying person when it comes to enforcing rule 5 and 8, the other rules won't (or in 4th's case, can't) be enforced, per say, but please, follow them to make this game fun.

Miscellaneous Notes
! Characters: As this is an OP Mafia game, we often have characters assigned to us or selected by us. These are just an additional element of the game, roleplaying is entirely optional. Some games will take place on external forums specially set up for the sake of anonymity and greater control over the game; sign-ups will occur here, and a link to the external forum will be given by the moderator. If you don't feel like roleplaying or changing your avatar, feel free to just ignore it entirely.
! Lurkers: Lately we've been having an issue with lurkers in games. While we still welcome everyone, our dear Mrs. Iceburg made a nice little speech about it. Here it is!

This game always runs in function of how many people signed up, so if 7 people sign up but only 4 actually participate, the whole game gets stunted, and frankly, ruined for those who do want to play. It's disrespectful towards the mod who calculates the setup on the number of players, and puts time into sending out PM's and dividing roles. It sucks for other players who want to play, but get very little to work with because of inactivity of other players. I imagine it particularly sucks for active players who get killed/lynched early on, and then have to sit back and watch as activity drops close to zero in the game they would have liked to keep playing.
I understand that IRL stuff can come in between, and that that's obviously more important than an online game. But next time when you sign up, think about whether or not you will actually be able to take out a bunch of free time to show up and participate. That is all.
! That is not to say you should be afraid to sign up, just be mindful of your schedule and your capabilities regarding playing. Good communication and some planning can go a long way. Everyone begins somewhere and we're generally a nice, understanding bunch.
! EpicMafia: I don't really know if anyone really frequents it all that much anymore since i haven't seen anyone playing lately but feel free to use the IRC to coordinate any attempts at rallying people, since a portion of mafia players frequents IRC. Don't feel overwhelmed by the silence or anything in it because the IRC tends to have long periods of silence.

Maybe you should put like a small advertising-type text above it, to lure people into playing. Like "come play with us, for ever and ever and ever!" Or something similar, I'm not good at this stuff.
