Anyone watching the show on Syfy? There's a whole lot of manufactured drama, but it's kind of fun to see all the costumes being worked on. Last episode there were several shots of Sogeking on stage, too bad most people probably had no idea who it was. :P

Nah never heard of it. Will be watching it now though!

Yeah, Face Off this ain't.
Hopefully if the show does well and gets picked up for a second season they can iron out most of the manufactured drama and focus on the actual choosing of costumes, designing, building, problem solving and then add in the real-life competitions results at the end. For some reason I am tickled pink that almost none of the followed cosplayers are winning in the competitions. (Nevermind that most cons have more than just Best in Show 1, 2 & 3 categories/prizes)
This past week's episode blew my mind at the suggestion that anime fans wouldn't/didn't "get" cosplay of Grumpycat and Nyancat. Cat stuff on the internet drives me up the wall and even I know what those things are.
-
Yeah, I was really surprised by that as well. I can't believe anyone would not know who Grumpy Cat or Nyan Cat is that gets on the internet at all.
If the series does get renewed, they need to get This Guy. I can't imagine him creating any kind of drama, though, he's such a nice, well organized guy. But he also says that the people in the show now are being portrayed in a worse light than they really are. And I'm sure that's the case, I knew a family that got on to a reality show several years ago, and they explained afterwards how everything just got re-edited into fiction.
In fact, if you look at that facebook page, there's a quote from Yaya about how little of a conversation made it on screen.

This article sums up most of the issues with the show

Yeah, the show has all the problems of most reality type tv shows. They're making this for the general public who otherwise has no clue what any of this is about, doesn't normally care, but they want to make them go "wow this is crazy and weird! I can't believe people do this!" It's all very dishonest. However, it's still a nice showcase of some awesome costumes.

Heh, more like a showcase of Fanservice….Not that there's anything wrong with fanservice.

"There's a whole lot of manufactured drama" <– well obviously Syfy needs to manufacture drama and every other show of cosplay creates drama. So what's the big deal if Syfy is creating drama CosmicDebris? Please ellaborate :)
