One Piece 719: Open Chinjao

Nice chapter but I thought Don would be more of a fight… But well we have bigger fishes in this arc
But still dissapointed that there wasn't anything about CoC... I though the use in battle would be explained after the statement by Diamante.
Now I'm curious about Block D and what Burgess will do

I do not think there will be a round Block D
The reason is the destruction of the battlefield -
Well, that was nice. And different than the Duval and Sanji thing.
I really liked Chinjao and his backstory, a nice, quick and simple way to give a character more depth.
But, well, nothing much to talk about besides that. Now's where the fun begins FOR REAL! -
block D will start but the battlewith the dwarves could happen before it finishes.
-
I like that Garp and Chinjao had sort of a competetion going on…Like, Garp specifically trains to bust in Chinjaos head. But I'll need a better trans to get the gist of Chinjaos talk of the Worst Generation; I think he means that Teach is the only one worth a damn?
-
Amazing how mp just took the ms version of one piece too.
- Sigh. *
-
I'm pretty sure block D will still happen, the reaction from the crowed seems to indicate that the battlefield will be just replaced.
-
Well, Block C's done. I like Chinjao's backstory. It's kinda predictable, along with the whole resolve of the fight with Luffy knocking the head back to it's original shape, but works well enough.
-
Nice and simple chapter this week, I suppose Burgess will report back to Blackbeard about Luffy. If they successfully piss off Kaido by the end of this arc and Burgess lets BB know about Luffy, then the Strawhat Pirates will be targeted by three Yonkou all at once. That is pretty crazy…
-
I wonder where the guy who said that Chinjao didn't crack the continent is.
-
lol don chinjao his head hahahahahahah
-

That's pretty much the gist of it. To him of all the people that appeared after Whitebeard's death Blackbeard is the only one that shows promise.
-
Hahaha seems like Luffy just gained a valuable ally.

why would blackbeard go after luffy? he doesn't have a reason to.
-
I really liked this chapter. Can tell which direction it was going and it was very satisfying. Luffy making a new ally in the new world. Honestly the best thing Chinchin could do to get back at Garp is to help Luffy become Pirate King, heh.
-
wonder what burgess is going to do….
Seems to me that Cavendish definitely wants to kill Luffy
Bartolemeo we aren't sure yet but seems possible
Bellamay is supposed to but something tells me he won't
Now that everyone knows Luffy is here surely shit is about to go down after this block? Block D won't start surely.. -
That was a nice chapter.
-
why would blackbeard go after luffy? he doesn't have a reason to.
Well I was just assuming Burgess' sinister smile on the last page meant that Luffy is somehow significant to Blackbeard's plans. But perhaps Burgess is just excited about finding out that Luffy is still alive after 2 years and in the New World.
-
Wait I thought Burgress discovered Lucy's identity?
-
So did we figure out if that was electricity.. It looks like whatever happened when luffy ohko'd the pacifista after the timeskip
-
Hah, I knew that Garp was one to bend Chinjaos head in, but I take it back because I would never expect for its original form to be like this…
-
It's just "impact" lines, like when Franky punched Fukurou.
-
great chapter for me
The Happu navy and the Marine stand-off was a surprise. I wonder if they're still at loggerheads. Maybe a precursor to actual navy battles between nations and the Marines as well perhaps.
The fight was shot and sweet. No need for Luffy to struggle too much against a mid-level opponent when we have Burgess, Diamante, Cavendish, Bartolomeo, Fujitora and Doflamingo in the wings. Having said that, Luffy had to laucnh himself really high to get the proper momentum to knock Chinjao. No mean feat.
Despite all of that Cavendish and bartolomeo are not quaking in their boots. Cav seems to think he can still kill Luffy. And there's Burgess getting all excited.
-
Wait I thought Burgress discovered Lucy's identity?
He did. Did you not read the last page?
-
Well I was just assuming Burgess' sinister smile on the last page meant that Luffy is somehow significant to Blackbeard's plans. But perhaps Burgess is just excited about finding out that Luffy is still alive after 2 years and in the New World.
I think hes just excited that there is real competition in the tournament. But seriously all these guys wanting to kill Luffy surely Block D won't go ahead cause shit is about to go down?
-
dat chapter.
i must say… when i saw luffy's ace i expecte him to just explode.
regardless it was nice to see the great Generation Xerox... also who's ready for shit to hit the fan?
-
Oh my god this chapter this chapter was a riot. The sheer ridiculousness of it all makes it amazing.
-
-
block D will start but the battlewith the dwarves could happen before it finishes.
Well, who knows? With the ring destroyed, maybe block D will be delayed.
-
I can see like a mini battle royal with people tryng to capture and/or kill luffy at the same time. I can definitely see CJ showing his appreciation to luffy for giving him his dream back by protecting him either from the navy or others like in this "hell" that DF spoke of…
-
It's all about Chinjao, baby!
His backstory was a little… absurd tough, even by OP standards. I know that there has been gag plot points like this before, like Sanji modelling Duval's face or getting blood loss off nosebleeding but they weren't that important! Chinjao's story on the other hand was hyped several chapters for such a silly payoff! I honestly was hoping something more realistic, like amnesia or something! On the other hand, since Chinjao family's silly headshape is needed to open the treasure cove, shouldn't at least one of his offspring have that kind of head too? Or does it appear on his family tree only once in a while? Guess that would make most sense. Anyway I believe that he's gonna be Luffy's ally for a while now, like with Duval!
Since the arena was destroyed, are they gonna hold rest of the tournament somewhere else, or can they somehow fix it? :ermm:
-
Haha, I wasn't expecting the battlefield to be destroyed. Nice move from Luffy. :-) Now the fight of D-Block will be interesting. I hope it doesn't last long, if it ever happens.
-
how come everyone is ignoring the fact that Garp destroyed 8 mountains when he was training to fight DC?
-
i didnt understand, did the frozen-lake-treasure-bla2 get freeze again??
chinjao already cracked the frozen lake, didnt he??
-
Nice Chapter.
Covered all the basics about Chinjaos history. In the flashback Chinjaos men say that not even fire could burn through. So i am still not sure that the Flowergangs only goal on DR was to get the Mera Mera no mi.
So Luffys attack is called Thor Elephant Gun. What is the difference to the "normal" Elephant gun. Since he calls it Thor one could say that electricity is somehow involved. The impact panel shows something. Has anyone something to add about the new attack. Second new attack after last weeks Hawk Rifle. From POV Oda wants to show us that Chinjao is really a strong opponent but he doesnt have the time to drag out this fight, since the whole DR arc is time sensitive. Someone has a different take?Chinjaos comment about Blackbeard seems not that special. Like everbody Chinjao thinks he`s pretty smart. He doesnt know about half the things Luffy has done. About Blackbeard the whole Pirate World knows what he has done.Killed WB and took his DF. He acquired the position of Yonkou after a short time. Has a individually extremely strong crew and is the only person known in the world who posseses the power of two devil fruits. He is the favorite. Like most of the time when Luffy faced a strong opponent in the past.
What i am interested in is Blackbeards plan. Why is Burgess laughing? What is Bartos background? What is Doflas real plan and background? What about CP0? Still a lot of open questions but for me personally this shapes up to be one of the best arc ever happening in One Piece. Fucking awesome!!!
-
how come everyone is ignoring the fact that Garp destroyed 8 mountains when he was training to fight DC?
Because he is Garp and such feats are to be expected from him, especially when he was younger
-
It's been a while since I liked a twist so much, I really felt emphaty for Chinjao, and the way it was all resolved was truly genius and unexpected. Great chapter.
-
i didnt understand, did the frozen-lake-treasure-bla2 get freeze again??
It's just like a gate.. and Chinjao's pointed head is the key, lol..
Anw, epic chapter!! I just love the fighting scene so much!! OMG!!
Oh, and can anyone tell me what the hell is the words in the back of young Chinjao's coat?
-
Well I was just assuming Burgess' sinister smile on the last page meant that Luffy is somehow significant to Blackbeard's plans. But perhaps Burgess is just excited about finding out that Luffy is still alive after 2 years and in the New World.
or maybe just happy at the idea of fighting against him..wasn't he the "competitive guy" of the blackbeard's crew?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So did we figure out if that was electricity.. It looks like whatever happened when luffy ohko'd the pacifista after the timeskip
naah,it wasn't electricity..it was called "thor" because it is an evolution of the gomu-gomu ame (rain) used at impel down if i remember correctly, but instead of a "gatling from above" it was an "elephant gun from above" just like a thunder
-
Because he is Garp and such feats are to be expected from him, especially when he was younger
still, if we saw it on panel it would be the best feat ever to occur in OP.
-
Hahaha seems like Luffy just gained a valuable ally.
yes indeed
dofla will will have problems if he joined the strawhats
-
I can't get enough of Chinjao's head. lol This guy must have had trouble walking through doors.
Good chapter, with a much needed flashback on Don's past with Garp.
Speaking of Garp, it's great to see him again even if it's a flashback. I've always been a fan of his salt 'n pepper hair back in the old days.Thor Elephant Gun doesn't look all that impressive. I can't tell if that's supposed to be actual electricity or just a shock effect.
At least it's not a G2/G3 combination attack. It's too early for that. -
Just a thought, I think Chinjao is going to train strawhats, because everything around him revolves around training (he entered battle to train one of his nephews, he kept repeating Luffy how he lacks training and now Garp mentioning destroying moutains as training to beat Chinjao). Since this fight, he owes to Luffy for restoring shape of his head. Anyway he is from the old generation and have his own backstory, so I doubt he was brought into story just for this single fight. If Oda intends to make a full use of this character, then he will probably be one to lead strawhats into the next training timeskip. Well, of course- they need more training for amount of hype the New World brings.
-

Anw, epic chapter!! I just love the fighting scene so much!! OMG!!
Oh, and can anyone tell me what the hell is the words in the back of young Chinjao's coat?
oh i see, it is just like "1001 tales- ali baba's magic cave" / "open sesame"
-
i didnt understand, did the frozen-lake-treasure-bla2 get freeze again??
chinjao already cracked the frozen lake, didnt he??
it's the frozen continent, ice is just gonna reform after a while
-
still, if we saw it on panel it would be the best feat ever to occur in OP.
Well, he probably didn't destroy all 8 mountains at the same time. And I think creating multiple tsunamis with little to no effort kind of trumps destroying a mountain, especially when Luffy is capable of destroying a mountain sized ship as he is now.
-
It was a solid chapter. I also thought Chinjao would be a tougher opponent but on the other hand I'm curious about Luffy. We know that Luffy's Busoshoku abilities still needed development (I remember when Hody bit Luffy without any big problems). So if Chinjao's head is really that hard then it seems like Luffy improved his Busoshoku skills in some way. Well but it was quite refreshing to see Garp. So now I guess we can finally expect the start of the "main event" of this arc, well whatever let's see.
-
Great chapter, the fight ended at the perfect time. If it took anymore people would start complaining it's dragging too much, and distracting us from the plot.
Love young Chinjao's design, even if his up-till-recently-current look wasn't bad either.
-

Seriously I don't get you, didn't Garp lunch himself in air to punch DC head in? And if Luffy had done the elephant gun attack directly he would've sent DC flying into the crowds watching and from what we saw a lot of people would've died or badly injured, Luffy had to attack from above so any damage can happen only the ring they in…

Strawhats ain't getting another training Timeskip, seriously WTF is wrong with this people? You think one piece is bleach or something where every arc Ichigo had to train? Hell no.
