Oh wow, is this forum always down when a new chapter comes out, or was that just coincidence today? ^^
Anyway, I really wonder why Leo can remember who the toy soldier once was, when everybody else, including Rebecca, his daughter, can't. This is something that's going to have to be explained. Maybe there's something special about Leo? But I doubt he ate the remember remember fruit. Then again, it just might be the case that the toy soldier just told him. Nobody else would have believed it, because they think the whole Kyros thing is a myth, but the Tontata are probably gullible enough to believe it regardless. So in that sense, that rather unique trait actually has some advantages as well, lol.
Chapter 739: Captain
-
-
Thats just the name though, still dunno what sort of ability it really is
Some trees produce a sticky substance called resin that is flammable, so this dude posses a Paramecia fruit.
Obviously it is not always the case, but you can found that on the back of many glue
-
It would be interesting if Sugar would turn Akainu into a toy

Cutting is not the only way of attacking. You could kill a person with a wood sword, just like you could kill a person with an hammer. King Riku just used a blunt sword too and nobody talked about that, Sabo is using a pipe, nobody saying nothing(there are even people saying is cool), Rebecca uses a blunt sword than suddenly shit storm.
About Diamante explaining is power. So if next Sabo attack him with his pipe, you will say he is stupid too, right? Because Diamante just explained is power.
You're comparing apples and oranges, basically. And this reveal in the last chapter isn't what makes Rebecca silly. It's just the icing on the cake. I think I explained my point well, but you keep sticking with Sabo's damn pipe, like that's what this all is about. Also, King Riku was actually shown hurting people. And King Riku didn't advance to final round based on luck.
If Rebecca was fighting with an iron club, there would be no issue. Frankly, for her fighting style, it would make a lot more sense. It's probably a tradition from the old Colliseum, before Dofla came. So her and Riku used the same sword that was used in those fights, when the fights weren't about blood and killings. Still, it seems crazy to think she can win fighting like that.
-
Losing more and more interest every time there's a sporratic chapter like this one, where the story jumps around so much. Basically the tournament fight has been off screen, small moment of story/fight progression, off screen, and I'd imagine rinse and repeat other than the KO sections. Ussop being cowardly to the point of utter stupidity now with each passing chapter just so his "bravery" will have more impact, Sugar forgot the contract (lol), and Sabo tells Barto to help the princess in this battle adds more to Oda's plot device train she's been riding all arc. Props on Rebecca for not getting KO'ed by that hit though, I think now she is a bigger favorite for the Mera Mera no mi than Sabo.
At this point, I think I may take a 5-8 week break from the series and come back. After those amazing 3 chapters, the arc is losing more and more interest for me at its most climactic moment of the story, the last 1/3.
-
And King Riku didn't advance to final round based on luck.
She advanced to the final round because she was capable of defending from Hakuba's strike. It wasn't mere luck. Some characters (Sabo I think) even noted as much.
-
The problem with Rebecca, to make it short, is that she's a self-contradicting character. She wants to win this tournament badly, yet she's hesitant to injure her opponents. I have no problem with pacifist characters. In fact, I like them a lot since I respect and admire pacifist people in real life. But when you have a character like this who still wants to participate in a gruesome battle despite her ideals, then there's an issue. Dont misunderstand me though, this is not exactly a writing problem. Contradicting characters can offer a lot of possibilities when it comes to plot and development. But often times they are less likable because they don't know what they want. Rebecca is not a bad character, but not really a likable one, so far.
-
They say Kyros shed blood only once in his entire Colosseum career. Was that like…20 years ago?
I think that person who made him bleed was Doflamingo in his rookie years.
Kyros still defeated Doflamingo then, so he kept his title. But Doflamingo put up a pretty good fight.Kyros thinks he can beat Doflamingo again since he has done so once already.

Most likely scenario is when the two big boys of the competition either take each other out or get ring out, or she eats the fruit while both are going at it.
-
Some trees produce a sticky substance called resin that is flammable, so this dude posses a Paramecia fruit.
Don't know how it confirms a Paramecia. Obviously Oda would have to take some liberty in thinking of new Logia, otherwise they would have been pretty much done with the introduction of CC's fruit.
Then there are body deformations, the way he twisted his head upside down. Paramecia doesn't explain that. Of course, it's always possible he has flexible bones or something, but come on.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Most likely scenario is when the two big boys of the competition either take each other out or get ring out, or she eats the fruit while both are going at it.
That would only make her more hated.
-
Kyros only suffered one wound, and only spillt blood from his attacks once in his coloseum career.
Above equation can be solved by Mingos "Parasite move".
If it is so, who knows.
-
I'm curious as to what caused Sugar to mess up on the contract. It seems to be too glaring of a problem to be just "lol I forgot". Hmm….
-
mingo cut off his leg its gone.
-
She advanced to the final round because she was capable of defending from Hakuba's strike. It wasn't mere luck. Some characters (Sabo I think) even noted as much.
It wasn't mere luck in how she avoided the attack. The pure luck part kicked in when Hakuba cleared the round for her. Don't need Sabo to tell me how to interpret what I saw.
But when it comes to luck, Barto also had a little help from Elizabelo. Maybe he would have won his round either way, but you can't say for sure.
-
I love how people are calling him Mingo, lol.
-
Rebecca is weak sabo please save her.

Lao G beside doing his G pose in this chapter was shown from new angle.
[qimg]http://i995.mangareader.net/one-piece/739/one-piece-4814763.jpg[/qimg]
We can see something like electricity symbol on his shoulder and his body is kind of covered with arrows of sorts.
So I checked on internet [qimg]http://prepgenie.com.au/gamsat/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/galvanometer.png[/qimg] and found this in electricity drawings so to say.
G and arrows are symbols of Galvanometer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanometer so I wonder if that points to his Devil Fruit power and if yes then what properties does it have, what power it gives to Lao?You may be onto something!

trebol is gonna blow up when usop fire star is ass.

Why would Oda turn any substance into a Logia? Your practically saying that he will introduce new logias that are no actually elements but substance.

Seeing how her grandfather also used a dull blade and how it was explicitly mentioned that these tournaments used to be much less violent in the past, it can be assumed that gladiatorial fights were fought using dull blades and other less lethal weapons before the takeover. If so, then it can be assumed that both her and her grandfather use dull blades out of principle, to uphold the old values.
-
first u didn't read the first line of my reply where he was asking robin to flee with him and let the dwarves he couldn't care less about them
now hold on , u say he has a reason to act that way cos he thinks trebol is much stronger than him
but now he's gonna act all brave and save the day cos of leo's speech !! how does that change the fact that he still thinks trebol is way stronger than him ?!it's not about how strong trebol is , even if it was DD , fleeing and letting his friends down after promising to watch their back
is not the likes of usopp's character even before the training
i still hope for a huge pay off for this but i just can't hide my disappointment for what's happeningI did notice the quote that you mentioned before, but that does nothing to prove that Usopp doesn't care about the Tontatta. If he truly didn't care then he would've ran away on his own while Trebol was in the process of blowing them up.
And Usopp has acted this way with plenty of other villains that he has faced. When someone else that is stronger than him is around, he usually lets them take care of everything. And even when he's backed into a corner and has to face an opponent that usurps him strength-wise (Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas in particular come to mind), he usually needs that extra push of motivation to really get the job done. Sometimes that comes through emotional inspiration, sometimes it comes through getting the shit kicked out of him, and often times it involves both. That's what makes him Usopp, and this chapter provided the motivation. I have no doubt that the payoff will come soon. I just don't get why some people seem to think that this is completely new behavior for him.
-
so i assume it's been brought up already but i'm really to tired to read through all 20 pages. So was robin a clone this whole time? can her clones make clones? Cause she is back in her old outfit before they got in disguise and we know her clones grow clothes as well so it's not like there would only be one disguise outfit cause the original just needs to wear it and the clones will have it. Where has her original body been this whole time?
-
I've noticed that while Oda jumps around every 3-4 pages in Dressrosa, when there's a chapter with Usopp, Robin, and the dwarves, he tends to focus mostly or only on them.

It's just that I never expected I would see logias such as swamp or snow, either. Swamp is dirt and water mixed together and snow it tiny crystals of ice, to put it simple. Given that those two exist, I don't think Oda would be above making resin or even a tar a Logia. Still, it seems Oda is bent on keeping it a mystery for as long as he can.

Cmon Rebecca is only sixteen yo

Cmon Rebecca is only sixteen yo
So was vivi. And chopper was even younger pre-TS. Usopp was only 17, and he's still only 19. Same with Luffy. Zoro and Sanji are also only 19/21 before and after. Nami was eighteen and is still only 20.
Ya know, I feel like the number of primary shonen characters over the age of 21 is incredibly low.
-
I think it's a lot easier to appreciate Rebecca when you view her character more as a strong emotional link to the Toy Soldier. On her own she doesn't really stand out too well, but anytime the comic shows her interacting with him it's really, really good, and that is due in part to how good of a character the Toy Soldier has proven himself to be so far.
I may not have cared a ton about her short clash with Diamante, but her flashback interaction with Toy Soldier made up for it, even if it didn't move the plot forward.
-
Cmon Rebecca is only sixteen yo
They sure develop fast at Dressrosa. Her boobs probably haven't even achieved full size yet.
Damn. Now I want her to join.

He took out a Vice Admiral without a scratch, of course he would have won.

I don't think she can join, because every panel with her and Sanji in it would be awkward, considering she's 16 …

Got to give your point the proper credit

It will be something like this:
lol

I don't think she can join, because every panel with her and Sanji in it would be awkward, considering she's 16 …
Sanji was reacting the same as always with Shirahoshi and she is 16 years old too!
-
sogeking for next chapter boys
-
Sanji was reacting the same as always with Shirahoshi and she is 16 years old too!
Same applies to Vivi.
-
Oda is setting up an epic apperance for kryos I'm sure he is going to be badass once he is returned to human form. The next couple chapters will be better you cant hate on a chapter like this
-
Same applies to Vivi.
Well, when they met Vivi, Sanji was, I believe, 19 years old. That makes it at least a bit less questionable in my opinion. But the whole Shirahoshi thing was still awkward, since a 21 year old having the hots for a 16 year old … well you get the point. And she didn't join, so I guess my argument still stands.^^
-
-
i don't care id still fuck her.
For a second, I thought your name was CPguy and I thought "oh, that comment makes sense!"

Blame his father…
the only one from the crew close with Rebecca's situation is Usopp -

I still wonder how can you people give a shit about those sort of things, like is that shit traumatizing or something?

So here is how I think the whole Toy Soldier thing will pass. First, Usopp and Robin defeat Sugar. Then, Toy Soldier becomes Kyros in the midst of his battle with Lao G. Kyros kicks Lao G's ass. Kyros goes to take on Doflamingo. Kyros confronts Doflamingo; Kyros is confident, in sort of Wiper-esque way, that he can defeat Doflamingo, as he had beaten him the past. Kyros does a number on Doflamingo, but in the end, Dofla kicks Kyros' ass. Then, flashback plays out showing Kyros and Rebecca's full backstory. Kyros lays on the ground, bloodied, staring up into the sky. Not long after Luffy comes in and begins his battle with Doflamingo. Another thought of mine is that the way Dofla beats Law into submission will be similar to the way Kyros beat Dofla 20 years ago.
-
I don
t understand all the hate Rebecca gets really. She does cry a lot, but then again, she has a really awful life. Her only friends are being held prisoners or getting killed in the colosseum. She
s risking her life to save her father figure, in a competition way out of her league. And she has received help from some of the competitors, but nothing that cheapens her winnings. For a person that received shit from everyone in the public, she doesn`t let that get her and keeps moving forward, hell she even went a land an attack against the champion. And the whole thing with the sword, wasn
t she trained by Kiros, a guy that fought in a time when u didn
t kill your opponents in the colosseum. She`s not there to kill anyone, just to get the fruit and save the toy soldier, so it resonates with her character arc.And besides wasn`t Oda an assistant for Nobuhiro Watsuki, so maybe is just a Rurouni Kenshin homage.
Overall good chapter, Ussop get your shit together and save the country already!
-
Kyros is a real threat you know or at least was 10 years ago
2 reasons why we can believe that Kyros can fight DD:
1. He says so.
2. Him being the first one disposed says a lot about him being a threat. But we all know he won't win.
-
OK, I think people are being a little too hard on Rebecca. I mean the fighting without hurting people and with a bladeless sword at that is pretty f**king lame; however, the fact that she was not only able to survive, but remain undefeated all this time is very impressive. At the moment her fighting style essentially bar here completely from being Next Nakama material, but if she gets her shit together and adopts a more aggressive fighting style, she could at least be a character with an impressive fighting level.

He's not fighting Lao G anymore.

Well we did already get caribou and his numa-numa fruit.
Which is a swamp. Definately not an element.
