I did some searching but I don't think there's any existing for a couple great comics I've read lately, so I'll start this. I have a habit of randomly clicking some mangas at Batoto and I've managed to find some good ones that way and this was the reason for this topic: to see if anyone else likes the works of Minoru Furuya, author or such titles as Ciguatera, Boku to Issho or Himizu - the latter is finished a long time ago, but it's being translated to Batoto (it's on its 3rd volume). His most known work is probably his first manga, Let's Go! Inachuu Ping-Pong Club, after which he released Boku to Issho, which is also a comedy, but with a lot more realism. I haven't found a translated version of his latest manga, Wanitokagegisu, so far.
It's kind of hard for me to put a finger on why I like his series so much. His works are often full with emotions, often disgusting, they deal with the darker sides of us but also many positive ones. My favourite is probably Ciguatera, which is a growing up story, on the same time uneventful but packed with great humour and optimism.
Himizu is a bit darker - it's about a boy who strives to be completely average and not stand out in any way in life. Minoru's series are often full of dark humour and odd turns, but that's what makes them so interesting.
If you do read his stuff, please contribute, I don't think I haven't been very good at putting my thoughts on text. If you haven't, check it out.
