Jean wants the Impel Down escape crew, which includes Buggy. Buggy is a Shichibukai, though…Jean won't be getting money from him, he'll go from being a bounty hunter to having a bounty himself.
Chapter 716: "Don Chinjao"
-
-
Fun chapter, even if 90% of these tournament characters will not have an impact in the story this is one of the things I was hoping to see in the New World, lots of new characters.
Seriously people just enjoy the ride… and don't take manga so seriously either.
-
1. the strong one is bobby. it's bobby strength.
2. just for this situation, it means not in general situation. imagine if the user of jacket jacket no mi hasn't any sibling who is powerful. is it the fruit still useful? because it doesnt make the user stronger. its puppet's strength that make it stronger.1. the strong one is bobby, he is the weak one, he used his devil fruit power to take control of bobby, he became strong using bobby, how is that useless? he went from weak to strong using a devil fruit
2. like maxterdexter said
@Fourtistic:The Jacket Fruit, He needed aprobation because he already couldn't force himself, he was practicaly defeated. The fact that he can control beast and monsters indicates that either he can tame very powerful creatures OR he can control people without their concent.
I personaly think that the second option is the correct one.
on which I agree, and if it was the case, dunno, put an awakened zoan to sleep and take control of him, or else, tame a gorrilla, make him your pet, train him to fight and use him in battles, heck, he can even take control of a horse and travel faster. what you are saying is true, if he have no one near him to use the fruit on, it wont be of any use, but it's the same as saying "imagine enel having to fight a rubber man, what a useless fruit" while forgoting that all fruits are situational in a way, and for all we know, a stronger guy with this fruit could have took control of his enemies.
For me, the jacket fruit is a tactical devil fruit more than a direct combat one, he can take someone prisoner with it's power then fight his own allies with his own body, he could hack any animal he wants and use his powers to his favor in traveling maybe. You main point is that the devil fruit does not make him stronger, true, it's a paramecia and it's very common for paramecia fruits, the ones giving a physical boost are the zoan ones. the situation is still him being better with that fruit than without one, which makes it not useless, but with so many restrictions :p it is a weak devil fruit that needs a lot of work and planning from the user's side.
I only wished that he took control of the bull (ucy) at the start of the fight, that would have been hilarious XD
-
Just like the previous block they this chapter was also given a good amount of pages for the other contenders in it….so its no big deal.
I feel like Ideo is a android anyway...he reminds me of someone from a diff manga of an appearance that is close to his

@Medical:

i dont think jean will even be able to touch buggy especially with all those strong escapees being part of buggys crew

To me, the execution is just poor. The dwarves and toys are interesting as hell, and I can't wait to learn more about them. Like I said, the problem was that Oda wanted to make these character have plenty of depth, made them fight in a deathmatch battle and each fight is 3-4 chapters long. It's not long enough for me to care about, nor is it short enough to not kill the pacing. Every single story element at this moment is more interesting in this arc than the tournament, and that says something since there's quite a few of them. I am sure after Group D is done, it will get more interesting since it will be a 1v1 fight, and we can understand these characters more.
that's confuse me, we already have the dwarves and you can't wait to learn about the toys. but you also complain that the fight isn't long enough. maybe oda didn't plan to give those character a plenty of depth, why would he? if he give that to those character from group c, he'll have to do that for the next round opponent, and for doflamingo's men too, and to every well designed character SHC will encounter. isn't that too troublesome? maybe rebbeca will get her story because she got more panel than other contestant, but i don't see that in ideo, funk brothers or jean…
we will get the toys story later, because the other crew's planing to go to toys factory... -
The character designs are awesome and all, however, I don't like a character simply because they look "Bad ass."
-
Reading a chapter as great as this and getting to read people's dumbass complaints is the best thing i could've asked for today. This chapter got me way pumped up, I feel like going outside and punching something!!
-
I feel like going outside and punching something!!
felt the same way when they clashed, I need to punch someone right now

1. Using another person's strength doesn't mean he was strong.
2. Like i posted before, must it has a puppet's approval for 'using'? Your (and maxter) point is when he can forcibly 'puppet'ing anyone since its has no point when he needs a approval. -
Good chapter - Garp must have really fucked Chinjao up eh? Brilliant. All primed for the big showdown next week - glad it's coming before the break!
The jacket fruit has more potential than originally thought - especially if he can just jump onto people without their consent.
-

2. Like i posted before, must it has a puppet's approval for 'using'? Your (and maxter) point is when he can forcibly 'puppet'ing anyone since its has no point when he needs a approval.1. Nope, it means the devil fruit made him strong, he was not or will ever be.
2.Look, I will put it simple, you are using the word "useless" instead of "weak" while his fruit was "useful" even if it was in that one moment in his life, which can never make it labeled as "useless" ever. It is a weak fruit, I give you that, takes too much effort for a very little return compared to logia fruits, I am with you in your general opinion, but that is what paramecias are all about.
As far as how the fruit works (approval or not) all 3 of us have no idea and are just speculating from what we've seen :p guess only oda knows -
OMG, what is your problem, people? You liked the chapter? Great, I did as well (not THAT much, but still), yaaay! So what? Just because you like something doesn't mean everyone has to enjoy it. Seriously, it's always annoying to see people complaining every time about chapters, but damn, much worse are those "how come you not like it? Are you dense? You only like shit, you are so stupid. I did like it so I am the real fan".

@Monkey:
Straight up, if you don't enjoy the whimsical oddity that is a ten second mini-story with Luffy befriending a killer monster bull, having it be crushed by a big fearsome giant, and have Luffy smash the guy, you shouldn't be reading this series.
All the more if what you're pining for instead is more panels of Law frowning.
Damn right.
Seeing how Diamante is not really intimidated about two CoC users fight makes me wonder just how strong he is.
And what kind of monster Doffy is to have Diamante as his member. -
An opinion is only as good as the argument it stands on. If you come in here making claims, back them up; if you can't, don't complain when someone else shuts it down. Having a strong or compelling argument doesn't excuse being rude or obnoxious, but if some insist on maintaining their weak argument or "opinion" then they should be prepared to hear louder opposition. I'm saying this for both sides, so whatever direction your coming from tone down the whining and keep the criticism appropriate.
-
Yeah, I completely agree. Years down the road when this arc is long over with, is anyone even going to remember the tournament (in a positive way)? >__>
The kings punch and Luffy KOing Hajrudin ?
Always.
-
@The:
I think people are selling Sai rather short here. He's fully concious after taking a surprise attack Jet Stamp kick in the back, he's only out of the running because he's out of bounds. Really, transplant in any Straw Hat crew member instead of Sai, or hell even Law and Jinbe, and you'd get the same result…unless people are suggesting Sai should have gotten eyes in the back of his head/rooted himself to the ground/bent the laws of physics to keep him in the ring, etc.
If Sanji was preoccupied exchanging blows with an equal level opponent, and Luffy comes outta nowhere and kicks him on the side, hard, the result would have been exactly the same as Sai.
After re-reading that I realized that myself. But still, think about how strong Chinjao must have been in his prime and how strong Sai is now. He might not be in his prime yet, but it's legit to think about how the Navy "evolved".
-
Yeah fuck story progression, lets see some more looney toon-slapstick action between random filler characters and an old bearded guy rant about garp for a month.
It really is true. Not even the biggest shows are spared when it comes to bad fans. Yeah random filler characters that are among the strongest in the world.
@Monkey:
a bloo bloo I'm some kind of idiot who made it through 71 volumes and began to bitch when I caught up and couldn't handle normal shonen schedule a bloo bloo

Bart and Cavendish don`t seem to be surprised at the COC display which speaks well too high about them. We´ve seen what bart can do already, however we haven´t had that much exposition from Cavendish. Sure he was in a Stalemate with Chinjao (Only one Exchange though). Maybe Cavendish is like that guy from DBZ who was all "handsome".. ehmm alien handsome that is from Frieza crew but has a nasty surprise down the road. I want to see more of Cavendish swordsplay, cuz there has to be a reason for his bounty. I hardly believe that an enemy would melt away from his looks (We already have boa for that and a male carbon copy would be a tad much at least for me). Btw who is he affiliated with, almost everyone (of the big names) so far has had a link with more players. The Kano gang, the power punch King gang, Bart and his crew, Bellami and dofly, Rebeca and Ricky, Maynard and Issho, so whats his game? where's his crew. Or is he like mihawk that goes solo all along

For me it's Mr 5 :p the explosive man, he use his fruit potential to make snot explosive and air bullets, now imagine garp eating that fruit and punching someone or something :p
that fruit always made perfect sense to be Ussop's fruit to me. Don't know why but i think that that Fruit and Ussop's, well, Ussopness it would kick major ass. (especially since he is the most cunning fighter in the ST crew)
That fruit with ussop can spawn a whole arc of people being defeated with ease by stepping in Ussop's traps that explode wherever and however Ussop wants and i would watch and read that arc countless times. (and don't forget that 8000 explosive snots barrage :D )At least no one came after you with pitchforks and torches for hating "We go" openly.
Wait so i'm not the only one? (though for me it is more of got me annoyed over time with ridiculous run time of maaaaaaaany episodes. i liked it at first up to middle of FI)

I don't know about the context but it's safe to assume that this is panda's fault.

I actually did think at first that there were at least 13 commanders of the same rank within the Happo Navy.
Even in Mangarule's translation which clarified that Chinjao was retired, I thought that just meant there was a new 12th commander.

that just means they are the 12th generation and 13th generation of commanders chinjao is already retired

I hope we will see ancient China, it would clearly be a waste not to, especially since Oda has already shown that it would look good

After reading tournaments of any kind in shonen manga for more than 20 years, from serious to comical, I now find the whole idea of "tournament" pretty boring, in general. Of course, some authors manage them better, some others manage them worse, but on the whole I read tournaments with the same spirit I have, when I must go to the dentist: it's something I have to do, so I'll keep quiet and do it, but please don't ask me to enjoy it.
Bottom line, I'll bear with this tournament without complaining, I surely won't reread it in the future, but I also hope it will be over quickly: this arc is full of interesting plots and I'd like to follow them, as soon as possible, instead of being stuck with a mere sequence of fights, with the risk of having other plots brutally shortened (something that already happened at Fishman Island). -

U misunderstood, it just means don chinjao was #12, and when he got old or whatever, sai took his spot, as #13, and when hes done #14 will take his place as leader.

Nice chapter love it

I know. I'm quoting the guy who said that, I'm not saying it myself.
-
Ok, this was a great chapter. 8.5/10.
- I loved the fight. The action was quick and fierce. This is what I was waiting for after 2 weeks ago and my hopes were answered.
- The Funk Brother's ability is as awesome as it looked at the end of last chapter. They were a really interesting pair.
- The information on the Level 6 guys was interesting. Good to hear it.
- Luffy vs Jean. Gotta love that Luffy, just sidestepping him like a boss. 'I wonder how Iva-san is?' lol. I also love him just taking the helmet back and getting out of Chinjao's way. I like that in particular because it showed awareness/sarcasm not just him being a ditz.
- Chinjao smashed Jean. He's in rage mode. He treated those weapons like feathers. And Jean's hair is a cactus. Aw, the hilarious badassery…
- Sai and Ideo. Again nice action and it validates Luffy and Chinjao as being on an even higher level than any old New World fighter.
- Diamante just sitting there like a boss. He doesn't even care. I hope he get's a big fight.
- A collision of CoC. I can't wait for Luffy vs Chinjao. It's gonna be epic.

Well it could be interesting in many ways. It's not just about the fight. This is currently the most interesting part of the story as the stakes here are higher than anywhere else. Also every time these 3 characters talk, we learn some very interesting news, especially when it comes from Doflamingo. An interesting back story on why he can control so many things or simply a flashback between Law and Doflamingo could be up in the air as well. Not to mention fighting wise, we could learn more about either Fujitora's ability or Doflamingo's. We still don't have a confirmation on either character's ability. I personally found the Vergo vs Law fight awesome, but too each his own. I don't see a situation where Law ends up ok if those two team up, so I am curious to see how it will end. He is either going to run away or get beaten and then captured.
That is pretty well what I summarised: the epicness and the conclusion, unless there's backstory. Okay, fine, we get some interesting nods towards those characters' abilities, maybe some flavour about the world and the last two years and stuff, but we're getting some of that NOW as well. Maybe the suspense panning out over so many weeks makes you feel like what flavour we get here (like the designs you don't care about, like CoC clashing … ) not feel like it's worth it to you. But read the whole arc in one go, and these will just be a handful of chapters in between those bits you're anticipating the most.
And, I'm sure even if you find most of the tournament not to your taste, there are going to be parts (like maybe Luffy vs Chinjao ... ? Maybe anything actually properly involving Burgess?) which you actually DO want to see. And however dull you may be finding the new characters and the blocks playing out, I'm pretty sure that if most of the tournament was basically skipped and we just got the climactic moments, it would feel pretty hollow and half-baked.
Not to mention that the blocks we've been shown have both shown us somethign worth seeing. Bellamy-Luffy interaction? Showcasing Bartolomeo? Introducing Ricky/Kyros? The clash of Conqueror Haki? On the other hand, A block was literally just Burgess vs fodder and it got skipped.
Maybe you'd suggest that in C block, it should have just been kept to Chinjao. But, at the very least, this chapter we've just had clearly served to, hmm, hype that fight? Or maybe I should say hype Chinjao?
I'm rambling, but basically, as I see it, this tournament is pretty crucial to this arc, not just because it's Doflamingo's trap and Luffy's in it and maybe it'll get interrupted and go crazy, but also because it's setting things up, showing us things and introducing people ready for the rest of the arc. And some of these thigns it would just be ridiculous to pull out of nowhere.
-
The episode was fun but Oda shouldnt switch off for entire chapters all the other events.
I know this may rise angry answers since it was discussed at lenght before but One Piece is having pacing and structure issues since the time skip. Oda is trying to tell too many things at once on each arc and his grip may be losing strenght.
-
lol forum getting boring with all people keep whining chapter is boring and suck… the chapter is good nothing wrong with it.
I agree I skipped 10 pages and its STILL whining city :getlost:
I never got the impression that Gaburu was a part of The Revolutionary Army led by Dragon. It just seemed like he was the leader of the workers enslaved in Kaidou's weapons factory. An island specific revolt. Kind of like how the revolution in Alabasta has nothing to do with Dragon and his army. I could be wrong though.
I agree, I got the impression that Gaburu was a leadera local revolution, like Kozah in Alabastra did, not a general working under Dragon as the leader in a global revolution.
-
What if Diamante is Jango in an undercover mission by the Marines/WG? :ninja:
I seriously hope you are joking because Oh boy… It doesn't get any more retarded than this

Chinjao is going in. I been waiting to see this guy start fighting but does anybody actually think he can win this Block or are we all assuming Luffy will take it. Also for those interested, this guy on youtube, who was just introduced to manga, is starting One Piece and is reviewing every single chapter. He is currently on chapter 36. I can't wait to see One Piece work its magic on him, here's the channel http://www.youtube.com/user/JimsNerdNation?feature=watch

Having 2.5 panels of each 'event' per chapter might feel more exciting reading weekly, but it sucks when you read the whole arc in one go.

Lol, I really wonder what manga some people used to read sometimes. As I see it, One Piece has always had this type of flavor to it. The only difference really being the expediency it has seemed to gain since the time-skip. Which I love. All these people complaining about lack of plot progression as such… it's kind of an odd viewpoint. For one, One Piece is an action manga, therefore every piece of action is to some extent plot progression. If things like the tournament are considered "filler" than so is Luffy's first meeting with Bellamy, and the subsequent chapters following it which weren't really progressing any of the overall plot anyway. Even worse though, this is actual plot progression.... Luffy trying to win the Mera Mera because Doflamingo set it up as a trap is the current plot-line for the MAIN character of this manga. The action substitutes this, because it is an action manga. What type of Shonen author would skip these? What type of Shonen reader wouldn't want to see these? I bet most of you complainers hate action movies.... Since, you know, all the fodder enemies that the protagonists takes out irrelevant to the plot.
Anyway, with that being said, I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet but... There were still people fighting when Sai and Ideo were knocked out, right? I'm pretty sure Luffy and Chinjao both activated COC when they attacked each other. Thus, the commentary of haki's clashing, and why they were the last two standing after the dust settled. Not to mention, in the picture of Sai and Ideo, I think the fish is intended to be knocked out as well. COC just doesn't have a visible marker besides the mouth foaming, so without closeups we didn't notice. Similar to how Shanks had his haki activated while entering WB's ship, and their clash result in a similar, if more grandiose, event. You can probably assume they both had COA activated too, just without the hardening effect, as it was in their weapons and not a common designator back then.
