Wander over yonder

soon

I swear I've seen the character design before
Has McCracken… DONE anything with it before? Wander looks so damn familiar.

he's posted sketches and images of that character on his deviantART before, a few years back. but he's since taken them down (probably because of the show coming up soon). from what i can remember, he's always wanted to make a show with that character in mind~
-
The design and animation looks great, but I have to admit I'm not crazy about that theme song. The tune is fine, but I'm not so much a fan of "Hey, let's repeat the name of the show over and over!" That just seems so lazy (not to mention irritating) to me.
-
I saw the clip from the GF panel video. The part of it that included Wander felt kind of tedious. Can he just rework the show so that it centers around that necromancer?
By the way, props at least for the necromancer. I strongly believe that all stories could benefit from the addition of a necromancer. The fact that he's called LORD HATER is enough to make me swoon. The overall character designs are pretty cool and imaginative, too, which is the sort of thing McCracken has always delivered on. I'm keeping an eye out on this, but the main character seems to be almost everything I don't like in a protagonist. My sympathies to the master Hater.
-
That has got to be one of the most annoying theme songs I have ever heard.

There was a recurring background character on Foster's that looked a lot like Wander.
The artwork still makes me think more of Jay Ward than anything else.
-
reminds me a lot of a Bone and Fosters love child
dont like the opening very much. it's gonna take some real magic to sell this to me
-
when I first saw those old pic years ago in McCracken deviant art I thought it was a younger version of a background character in fosters, the Rocking chair bearded one, and yes im really cant wait to see the first ep of this!!!!!!

Every time I see anything that connects Bone and animation, I think of Nickelodeon and their damn magic gloves and Britney Spears.

The more I watch it, the more I think it's alright as a promo, but not as an opening.
-
Ah. I was wondering where these images came from. I thought it was "Spliced" for some reason.
-
Yeah, I definitely don't like the theme song that much, but McCracken's shows always have that certain "charm" to them. So although I'll be skipping the OP every episode, I'm sure the series itself will be a treat.
-
Yeah, I keep watching that opening to see if it'll grow on me and it just isn't. I think it needs something more like the Powerpuff Girls intro with the narration and then music.
-
PPG and Foster's got along just fine without lyrics in their intros.
-

well probably that sense of familiarity
you have the two main guys, and two bad guys that look like regulars and a single phrase repeated on loop at sugar induced speeds. Where PPG and Fosters both had an huge slew of reoccurring characters in the opening, and you also had two home settings. Given that there isnt supposedly a home base in WOY, and the character count is limited to 4, the show is going to heavily rely on exotic locations to travel to as opposed to a large cast of characters interacting. So according to the intro, it seems to be another version of Samurai Jack, but with no real story/motivation to actually travel places, with a travelling woody woodpecker style lead and a probably snarky more down to earth sidekick, and the love child of Emperor Zurg and Skelletor for a bad guy who's only real apparent beef with the main character is that he's an annoyance and the character harshes his bad vibe (as much as the bad guy probably harshes the good guy's good vibe).
basically there's no meat to the story, and at the moment you're forced to rely solely on the knowledge that the creator knows what he's doing. otherwise it looks like .. idk another uninspired kids show aimed at 6-10 year old boys.
-
(as much as the bad guy probably harshes the good guy's good vibe).
Lord Hater would never do that!

Now that you mention it, yeah. I hadn't thought about it before, but that's exactly what this reminds me of.
Samurai was basically "Come for the Genndy, stay for the Aku" and I'm really getting the feeling that this show is going to live or die based on Lord Hater rather than Wander. If nothing else, that bit of him being absolutely baffled by Wander in their sequence together displays a lot more character than everything we've seen out of Wander himself to date combined. We might be pleasantly surprised but Wander does seem like Jack; a relatively bland character that people don't watch the show for, but don't avoid it because of either. Just substitute boyish cheerfulness for quiet stoicism and there you are.

Obligatory 21 minute version
:swanson:
-
is that kenneth or someone trying really hard to sound like kenneth
-
Yeah, that's Jack McBrayer as Wander.
-
Yeah, that's the clip they showed at the GF panel. It says something that the main character isn't only annoying to the villain, but to the viewer.
Is it too much to ask for a show where Lord Hater crushes skulls for 22 minutes, uninterrupted? Well, I guess he is part skull, but that's on his father's side and religion is passed down through the mother.
-
Anybody else watch The Picnic last night after PnF:Mission Marvel?
If that episode is typical, then it's largely what I expected from the series; Lord Hater is the best character and they're going to have to be careful with Wander. He's the kind of character that can easily turn into an annoying jackass if the writers don't watch themselves.
-
i saw it.
i thought it was pretty good.

I thought that I was watching space mojo jojo for a moment there.
-
Finally saw it and my suspicions were confirmed. It was good except for every moment Wander was on screen. There was even one moment where Wander looked at the screen and paused for a fucking laugh while some jocular ditty underlined an implied "THAT'S OUR WANDER" like his joke was so funny that it deserved a celebration. All I felt was distracted from the main event.
Everything else around Wander is nice. The animation is really fluid and Hater/Awesome confrontation is over the top and filed with a lot of fun designs and scenes, but Wander is a noticeable orange stain on the experience.
-
Oh yeah, I saw the preview episode when it aired and it was definitely fantastic. Really hope the show can maintain the quality.
-
the true premiere is on now.
-
Man, this episode is so fast paced that it's getting on my nerves.
-
i thought the episode was good
-
I don´t like to post on very inactive topics but would be even worse to make a new one for this show.
I marathoned all the first season and read S2 is coming out this year. Did anyone else watch and like the show so far? To me the best episodes are the Lord Hater ones, and The Brainstorm is most likely my favorite
-
here's the trailer for season two!
Warning: Major twist for the next main villain at the end of the vid. your…..minds....will...pop!
-
Man, I´m super hyped for Dom and Dr. Screwball
I got his song seriously stuck on my head
-
Ok season two starts in 8 hours IIRC. Who´s hyped?
-
the battle royale episode just came and went and let me tell you. it…was ...priceless! i'd say what happened but....you're gonna have to watch it to find out!
-
It was…. AMAZING!!! Also, I´m really digging the episodes that are completely focused on Hater´s side (whether it´s about him or Peepers or a random watchdog). The Eye on the Skullship was adorable.
-
Well, the show is over, and managed to finish beautifully despite of the sudden cancellation notice.
To quote Wander
“We gave it a go, put on a heck of a show, and did a lot of fun stuff we’ll get to laugh about after”
