Another year, another DBZ game. Except this time they're focusing on online functionality. Up to 4-player co-op and up to 8-player multiplayer.
Dragonball Z: Battle of Z

Supposedly, the reason we only got Budokai HD Collection and DBZ for Kinect the past year or so was so they could fulfill the actual "one game per year" obligation cheaply and easily while putting more time and resources into this bigger and better title behind the scenes.
So here's hoping this one really shines. The small bits of pre-release material looks good so far.
-
Well.it does look good and the online co-op is promising but it's always the same with the DBZ games.
-
I remember way back in the days of Tips & Tricks Magazine, people were actually lamenting the fact that the likelihood of future DBZ games was up in the air. If they only knew… j/k
-
More things change the more things stay the same. I mean they won't finish up the Origins series but they'll pump out a new DBZ "Fighting" series .
-
Huuuuh I wonder if it can beat the last big game of the franchise- DBZ: QTE.
-
YES they are finally putting great ape Gohan in a game!

Great ape Gohan was already in Budokai Tenkaichi 3

nope they had great ape for nappa, vegeta, baby vegeta, bardock, kid goku, king vegeta, raditz, and turles but not for kid gohan.
Believe me I wouldn't forget this it is something I have been picky about for years is the fact they never put in Great ape gohan in the games not even as a boss battle.

Holy crap you're right. That's weird seeing as they made great ape transformations for every other saiyan no matter how small their role, but didn't make one for one of the few who transformed in canon.

There was a Great Ape character back in Tenkaichi 1. Its in-game info didn't say it was a specific Saiyan, but it was used to represent Gohan at the Saiyan Saga.
-
Hmm, so is this like the one that's been in Japanese arcades for a while, or something different?
-
It KINDA looks like it…maybe?
(Video for reference)

sigh Looks okay I guess. Nothing special compared to past DBZ from the last few years IMO but that multiplayer does look nice at least.

Does it tell anything worth while?
Thank you Red

I've only ever played Budokai 1-3 and BT3. Budokai 3 was fantastic, hated BT3. This could shape up to be the first DBZ game I'm interested in picking up since Budokai 3, but that's simply because I'm a sucker for co-op. I'll wait to see how it pans out.
-
Hey, guys, remember the days back when the DBZ games actually had less characters, but more combos and were more like traditional 2d fighting games? Like Budokai 3? Yeah, good times, good times…
-
Hmm, but I didn't like the budokai games as much really, at least not compared to Tenkaichi. It just felt more like DBZ to me. I mean how often did those fights have combo's or distinguishable fighting styles really?
-
They should do an abridged version I would play nappa for ever.:ninja:
(don't mind this post i'm just daydreaming). -

Early on at least, some of the characters actually could be pretty distinct. Aside from the Saiyan transformations requiring a different strategy (because the power they provided was overridden by slot usage and time limit)…
Other characters like Yamcha could take moves like Wolf Fang Fist and double stack it for power... So that even though it was a really weak move, it had a lot of hits in the combo, so that he'd hit the enemy multiple times, and recharge his special bar WHILE doing the attack, and then be able to launch again into a new super attack immediately afterwards. There were lots of little nuances like that in some of the characters. By later games WFF was reduced to a basically a regular attack with the same result as any other character's punch attack combo.
By Tenkaichi 3, with the roster sooo huge, all the characters are basically identical, (to the point that if you liked two different specific moves, there was almost guaranteed to be a character that had those two moves in combination)... aside from the giant characters, and the couple of characters that have no fireballs at all like Mr. Satan, Videl, Arale, and the early Dragonball characters.... who were all pretty much handicapped.

Hmm…thats certainly true, and believe me i like some diversity between characters (Even though i'm a big Dynasty Warriors fan -w- ) But that's not entirely what I meant with liking Tenkaichi more. Yeah, the way it was DEFINITELY made Budokai and what not a better DBZ fighter. But Tenkaichi (and pretty much every DBZ game since) is what reminds me more of DBZ itself. The flying around, smashing people through environments, throwing giant beams around, smashing a guy far off and following it up by flying after the enemy or the teleporting at all. It's not an ideal fighter by any means, but it captured DBZ, particularly later DBZ, pretty well. And I could own all my brothers with Videl or Yajirobe ^^
-
but Yajirobe was broken because of the senzu beans, he wasnt that bad
-
Didn't really use those myself, cept for the couple of times I tried 5 on 1, those beans ARE pretty broken. Course I guess that IS what they're supposed to do.
-
Thanks for your hard work as always, redon.

ah domo arigato gozaimasu Redon-san

I'm not going to post news but if you're interested in this game itself, just check out YT for the latest gameplay vids.Anyway, since this game is probably going to suck ass, I figured I might as well ask you guys what DB game for the PS3 is the best one. I've heard stories about Budokai Tenkaichi 3 being the unrivaled #1, but, alas, it's for the PS2. So, which one's better- Burst Limit or maybe Raging Blast 2? Or is it a completely different one?
-
Burst Limit only gets up to Cell, So in my opinion Raging blast 2 is much better.
But i must say i havent really liked this Gen dbz games in comparison of the ps2 ones.
-
Ultimate Tenchaichi, Tenchaichi 3, or Raging Blast 2 would be my choice
-
For me the only really good DBZ game was Budokai 3, period.
-
Budokai 3 for the gameplay, Tenkaichi 3 for feeling like a DBZ battle.
The SNES/Saturn era 2-D games were pretty cool.
-
Dragonball: Advanced Adventure on the GBA was a solid side-scroller too.
-
Ultimate Tenchaichi
Shame on you.
SHAAAME.
Edit: Dragonball Advance Adventure is the best Dragonball (I include Z when I say that) game ever made. Period.
-
In other words Budokai 3 HD remaster is the best DB game for the PS3? Good thing I own it, then.
Thanks for the answers, guys.

DragonBall Origins 2 wasn't too shabby either.
-
Dbz supersonic warriors put everything on a console to shame. Even supersonic warriors 2 wasn't as good. And I did like tenkaichi 2 though.

Yup, it's pretty much the best. I need to get the HD version, I loved the PS2 version. I still think one of my biggest gaming accomplishments was beating Perfect Cell with full health with Krillin with one or two health bars on the highest level.
Damn, okay, just writing this brings back so many memories I'm going out tomorrow and buying it! -
Don't know why they can't add offline co-op.
-
^ Not industry standard anymore.
-
That freaking sucks though. Fighting games have always have the option of two players.
It sucks how this industry is. All the kids are playing on their tablets, and all the older people who play dedicated console or handheld games are usually single.
Where's the games for the middle man who's young but has a sibling
-
I meant it's not standard.anymore to have local/offline co-op or competitive play.

It's to make more money. To play multiplayer your friend has to buy a copy now.
-
It just sucks how it's not the standard, so most games outside sports titles won't even do it. Like, what, my brother and I have to have two TV's and and two consoles? really? IN THE SAME HOUSE?
-
^ It's not as impractical as it sounds especially for those occasions where one of you might wanna play something different but the other doesn't etc.
