Putting this out there now. Taj Gibson will win sixth man of the year this season.
Expect many articles over the next couple days(especially Monday) about "experts" picks for SMOY. Now that there's no obvious choice, it'll be interesting to see who the new favorite is.
My pick is Jeff Green -
This is such a dumb move by OKC. You have a shot at a title, thats a very rare thing and you don't screw with that. If Harden is too pricey for you then wait to do something next summer, you have to keep together a team that was in the Finals last year. This trade helps the Thunder for the future but they are should be in win now mode…
Also that Ibaka signing looks pretty stupid now...
-
I think this is a good move by the Thunder. They could potentially have a very good team for quite a while, but won't get there by burning their resources for one year from Harden. I mean, it'd be one thing if they gave him away, but they very much didn't. Kevin Martin is just as dangerous of a scorer as a shooting guard, and then simply add Lamb, and 2 first round picks to that? They got a great return for someone they weren't going to be able to keep anyway. I thought they might be able to keep him, but all their attempts at getting him a new contract failed, and they were down to like 4 days or something. The question is if they can rebuild their chemestry fast enough to seriously contend this year, but this move insures that they'll be able to contend for many years beyond this one.
-
@Nex:
Harden has been traded to the Rockets. In return the Thunder get Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, and a second round pick. Good move by Oklahoma, they don't need him choking in another big game. Actually, what happened goes beyond choking. You have to be trying to suck that hard.
When Miami found out that the easiest way to win oklahoma was to stop harden as that meant that all of the other players would play worse. Easy. He made that team tick as westbrook is the most selfish player ever on the field. The only way that Durant got clutch was when harden had ball duty. But putting James on harden was just miamis victory.
-
There's this funny(and arguably true) joke going around that OKC got more for Harden than the Magic got for Howard
-
I thought the result to the Mavs/Lakers game would be a given since Dirk is out so I haven't been watching it, but that's not the case. At least the Celtics' cross-country rivals are also starting 0-1 :)
-
No Dirk, no problem!
As a Mavs fan from L.A. who loves seeing his FB feed explode with pitchfork-in-hand Lakers fans, I'll be honest–that game looked to be more about coaching. I couldn't watch all of it because of the time difference, but Mike Brown should really pack a clown suit in his briefcase for games like these.
Lakers will need some more time to gel, though.
-
As a Mavs fan also living in California, but who lived a good portion of his life in Dallas, it's fun watching my Facebook feed explode with the shocked reactions of both my CA friends and my TX fans who both expected Dallas to lose.
-
The worst part about the Thunder trading Harden for Martin basically as far as the current roster goes, is that I can't play with Martin in 2k13 worth a damn. Dude's shot is just way too awkward. Thank God for fantasy drafts. Take notes, Madden.
The Thunder are still my prayer to answer the free agency superpowers of the NBA.
I honestly don't expect a lot from the Lakers this year. They're just so… old. Even Dwight Howard made them older, which isn't totally fair because I don't actually consider him to be old like the others. Gasol is borderline.
-
Lakers lost to Mavs… without Nowitzki?
That's it game over fuck you all blah
-
If Mike Brown does not change his approach in using Steve Nash, he'll be fired soon. Just use him as he is in Phx and they'll be ok.
-
Miami and Boston's defenses both got caught flatfooted on several occasions. Barbosa, Allen, and Rondo were taking names when they got the ball.
I know it's a small sample size, but the Heat are not acknowledging Bosh enough. He didn't get many touches until the end of the game. The Celtics made the same mistake with KG; they barely ran plays for him.
That was still a good game to watch as compared to last year. Looks like a full training camp pays off.The ceiling of these two teams are through the roof. When they get their defenses in check, the rest of the league will get trampled.
-
Brb guys gonna go find shitty excuses to cover for possibly the worst team in the NBA right now's shitty fucking defense or lack thereof, shitty bench/depth, and shitty pace as well as shitting turnovers all over the place.
And then kill Mike Brown because he's another excuse for how bad they are right now. (A sorry excuse of a coach too)
-
^ I don't know what's going on with LA either but they need to get their shit together (again).
-
Howard will probably quit on this team too.. I can feel it. I'm so pessimistic for this team.
I'm seriously fucking infuriated right now. -
Who wouldve thought Boston, Denver, and LA would combine for a 1-8 record after 5 days
I know its just the start of the season but yikes…
-
Kobe is terrified, apparently.
This is just a bunch of dog shit.

It's only a few games into the season. Not sure why everyone is flipping out, Rome wasn't built in one day. It'll take time for them develop some chemistry together.
-
Reports out that Mike Brown was fired. Will crack up if Sloan is his replacement.
-
Hopefully this means there will be no more excuses from Lakerland.
My god they are so impatient
-
Wow, five games into the season and he's being fired.
And it wasn't even like he did a bad job last season.
So dumb.
-
Well god forbid if the losing continues then'll no one else to absorb the criticism sans the team itself.
-
This wasn't dumb. Mike Brown is completely clueless. That's all there is to it.
Also they probably didn't want him winning easy home games so they fired him before the few home games in a row.

Bullshit. He's not even close to completely clueless. If he was clueless they would have done this bad last year. Instead they went 41 and 25.

This post is deleted!

Wow Lakers picked D'Antoni over Jackson, pretty bold move I say.
-
Especially considering the fact that they were practically on their knees to get him. I doubt Jackson really wanted the job, he was probably just testing how desperate and pitiful Lakers management had become.
Let's see how many games D'Antoni gets…
! I heard the Lakers will pursue Gregg Popovich, Doc Rivers and maybe even Tom Thibodeau or George Karl if things don't work out
-

Anybody who uses the Princeton offence in the NBA is clueless. Send that garbage back to college where it belongs (I'm talking about the offence not Brown himself lol)
Also they won that many games because of their talent not the coaching. Was it a little quick to fire Mike, yes. But this is LA man, they expect excellence.

Should've brought back the Zen Master though. But its Jim Buss we're talking about here...he wants to make his own decisions and move away from his daddy's.

The T-Wolves are looking pretty great so far this season. I can't wait to see what they will look like in a few weeks once Love and Rubio are back from their injuries.

How is Brandon Roy doing so far? The guy used to be a beast before his knee injuries.

Pretty terrible.
Andrei Kirilenko, believe it or not, is my favorite player, so I've been enjoying the team. Bit of a renaissance for him, though he's lost a step.

I haven't watched him so far unfortunately, but he's fitting in nicely apparently. Stupid lockout took him away from the NBA…
In other news, Rondo and James get their beastiest statlines of the young season and their teams come through in the 4th!!

Extended version of T-Wolves comments:
Brandon Roy looks like a shell of himself. Still a smart player with good court vision, but no lift on offense and no lateral movement on defense. Has passed better than anticipated. I really want him to play well, I'm just not sure it's going to happen.
Kirilenko is consistently filling up the boxscore (16/11/2/2/2 tonight) and playing some of his typical excellent defense. Even better, he's still a little insane–he tried to football hike a pass to a player during an out-of-control drive tonight--but if you let him do that every few trips down, he'll reward you with some inspired play. Sloan never figured that out and would hook him for any bad play while letting the likes of Matt Harpring stumble around the court.
Shved and Pekovic are both going to be good to very good basketball players. Pekovic is actually one of the better offensive centers in the league in terms of around-the-basket game.
Derrick Williams is terrible. Black hole on offense, confused on defense. Just doesn't seem like he's going to put it together. Adelman barely played him tonight.
Luke Ridnour is also terrible and should never be used as more than a backup PG. Until tonight, he was averaging barely over two assists a game as a starting point guard playing 30+ minutes per game.
The rest I'm not sure about yet. Dante Cunningham looks to be a steal, and Stiemsma and Budinger (injured) are both decent.
-
Not to mention J.J Barea, is he still injured? If their main guys come back and stay healthy (Love, Rubio) they got a decent squad.
-
Forgot about Barea. He's better than Ridnour, but probably not good enough to take minutes from the development of Shved.
-
I'm sure they'll be really solid when they're healthy again.
Unlike the Knicks, I think their better players coming back will help them haha.
-
Despite the old-and-improved Rasheed Wallace, the Knicks are now human again!
Now it's up to the rest of the league to stop that crazy pack of Grizzlies. Perkins sure couldn't do it, haha
-
Love is playing tonight is great news for us, Wolves fans.
-
Roy may be done for good this time
-
No excuses from Lakerland this time. Just pure fucking bsery on the players besides Kobe, again. How can anyone blame this dude? He had 40 points and a triple double to boot. He outscored the team combined. The team missed 20 free throws. 20 fucking free throws. Marc Gasol >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pau Gasol it's not even fucking funny anymore.
Fuck this team seriously. Weak ass bench and no fucking defense. too many turnovers. same old song and fucking dance. Objectively, Joey Crawford was making some bs-ass calls, but really, what's new there? And either way, Lakers still would have lost. They didn't deserve to win, no matter how hard Kobe tried.
I'm happy if Memphis wins the chip. Hoping they do because there's no way Lakers will.
-
I'm a little happy that I don't have TWC to see all of the ways the Lakers just suck when they need to win.
At least we got rid of Bynum
-
lmfao lakers are trash
-
When Nash comes back and they are still like these, I am just going to laugh hard.
-
Hackadwight time?
What a disgrace. Team's cursed. No way to fix em. First round exit, here we come! Oh wait, how bout NOT EVEN MAKING IT TO THE PLAYOFFS
inb4OH MY GOD LAKER FANS ARE SO IMPATIENT WAAAH No fuck that bullshit it's been too long and this team is still a fucking disaster. Nothing's going to fix them, not Phil Jackson, not trading Gasol, not teaching Dwight to shoot FTs
And I laugh @ idiots pinning their losses on Kobe still. He's the only reason they're not getting completely dominated at the end of the 4th quarter. The team had a fucking 17 point lead over a Rockets team with a shit Harden and shit Lin and gave it up. Fucking ridiculous.
-
Oh Lakers fans…LET ME TASTE YOUR TEARS OF UNFATHOMABLE SADNESS!!!
-
Get bent you pile of shit.
-
I's the organization man. Jim Buss wants to head in a completely different direction then his father and wants to create his own legacy thus making stupid decisions. The D'Antoni offence doesn't suit this roster! It's pick n roll all day long with spot up shooters as the wings. It won't work, first right now they don't have a pg capable of running it until Nash comes back, second the big man needs a lot of space in the paint for the pick n roll's thus meaning Dwight needs space thus meaning Pau needs to get out of the paint thus meaning he needs to be a spot up shooter lol which he is not. What he is, is a supremely talented finesse big man and they are stupid not to play to his strengths. Thirdly when Nash comes back he will dictate the offence and have a lot of the ball….this won't sit well with Kobe...he doesn't play second fiddle..ever. Lastly D'Antoni is clueless defensively...
It's destined for failure...but I maintain that trading Gasol would be a stupid stupid move, and this organization will regret immediately.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Not to mention Dwight shooting bricks worse than Shaq and Wilt at the line lmaoooo
-
So, uh, stilll think 5 games into the season was plenty enough time to fire Brown?
-
Implying Mike Brown would have made any difference for the better in the long run.
