Well Luffy is the one that kept giving them the right time for Blackbeard to do it from the warlord title to being the reason the person that saved them got out and it makes sense for the main characters actions to effect the world instead of other manga like Bleach where the main character just fights random people coming along and then waits for the next till the end.
We can only guess on stuff like this though so no one is really wrong because we cannot really prove it and reading other people's guesses on what would happen is still interesting to read like if Blackbeard never got the fruit would Ace have had Blackbeard as his second in command when Whitebeard died making him the replacement that whitebeard wanted him to be but it seems that Blackbeard would have still stayed under the radar hoping to get the fruit until he died lol.

BB is a bit complex. I want to say that he can't do cautious, but then I remember he sailed with WB crew for over 10 years, bidding his time searching for that DF.
BUT now that he's got it?
BB has let arrogance throw caution to the wind. But get me wrong, that doesn't mean he can't make good plans. He does but now that he has the darkness fruit he's not so cautious. He's allowed arrogance to overrule caution.
That's the whole point of his character. And part of why he's so annoying. You think Oda didn't know how people will react when it turns out he was saved by some antidote after seeing what Luffy had to go through to survive?

But with Blackbeard, problems seem to have a way of working themselves out. He would have died if it weren't for Shillew's antidote. He would have kept circling the Tarai current if Sengoku sent someone to check on the control room after Luffy's ship passed through the Gate. He could have died if Whitebeard was angrier. He could have died if Redhair Pirates didn't stop the battle.

He sets plans but they're not triple-stacked redundancy plans like Crocodile or Doflamingo's where you force an opponent into making the moves you want him to.
He plans big picture and leaves the details to what opportunities arise, though he'd call it fate.
He has undoubtedly been extremely lucky but arguably no more than Luffy. He seriously miscalculated against Magellan, but he'd found an ally with access to antidotes and really had only one shot from Magellan. His entrance to Marineford was easier due to the open gates but I don't know if he had a plan to get through otherwise. Shiriew would have told him anything he knew. He then held back till he had a chance of finishing Whitebeard and took the gamble he could steal the Guro Guro. It worked. Next step, 2 years solidifying position as new Yonkou.

He then allied fortuitously with Hancock who through an improbable chain of events not only let him know Ace was in danger (vanishing vivre card) but was key to getting him onto Impel Down. He then ran around causing shit until he was beaten by Magellan so badly no antidote could save him. Luckily he impressed a guy who not only could save him but was friends with his dad. His running around also scored him enough allies to get him off Impel Down. Eventually he saved Ace through a combination of sheer single-mindedness and even more allies impressed by it. Then Ace made his own choice and died. A catatonic Luffy was then saved by his allies and a fortuitously (or maybe planned) appearance by Law.
So in comparison, yes, Blackbeard is a far more thorough planner but has a real weakness for relying on fate to get him through the blank spots. One that with his new power and a belief in fate is likely to become true arrogance.

the comparison was for their respective lucky breaks. I don't really think anyone can blame Blackbeard for getting a few breaks compared with Luffy's unending string of them. If you discard the 'narrative armour' approach Luffy has had a lot.
And BB did set a plan and follow it, being flexible minded enough to adapt the opportunities in front of him to be part of it. He's not a bad planner; but a reliance on fate or opportunity is an obviously glaring weakness.
He had a plan that got him this far but we haven't seen a next step to it revealed. By inference steal as many powerful DF as he can, then become PK through overwhelming force?
That's more an objective than a plan and his new power is likely to turn that weakness into the kind of arrogance that seriously trips a character up.

It isn't nearly as bad as the current anime, but the beginning of the arc (which was also a little slow in the manga) was adapted at 1 chapter an episode. That pace continued until the fights began on the day of the Survival Challenge.

In my experience, Skypiea is usually ranked pretty low in most people's rankings of arcs. couple that with kind of shit pacing in the anime, you get the rampant hate you see.
The closest Toei has ever been to catching up to the manga was at the end of Skypiea, even closer than they are now. With that in mind, they did a pretty good job considering the quality nowadays.
Contrary to the majority opinion, I actually enjoyed Skypiea in the anime. Of course, I had the luxury of binge watching the arc (which most others should've had as well).
I watched it with my brother not too long ago. It's pretty fun and the pacing isn't nearly as bad as nowadays.

I wouldn't say Ohm was necessarily much, much stronger than Gedatsu tbh.
It was hard to gauge Gedatsu's real strength due to his highly comical antics.
Gedatsu's only real weakness was his stupidity. When he actually was able to get a hold of Chopper, he pretty much dominated him until Chopper used strategy to send him down to the Blue Sea.
He showed nothing like Ohm, no special weapons that make it extremly hard to deal with… And the ordeals showed who it was hardest to deal with...

I see the strength of the Priests as Ohm, Shura then Satori, then Gedastu.
Yama was just below Gedastu, not too far off, but not as strong. He's also strong enough that Enel had him commanding those grunts (literally as they were the 'goat men' LOL)

If Gedatsu hadn't been portrayed in such a comic fashion, then his ordeal of swamp could have been pretty damn deadly.
I'm not disputing that Ohm was stronger than Gedatsu (the stats showed that) but I don't think the gap was necessarily that big, nor is it really a fair comparison for the reasons I stated before.
Would the weather weather fruit be a logia if ever introduced since its inclined to nature? Also did teach try to steal Dragon's power by trying to kidnap luffy before he defeated ace? Would that mean that Dragon's presumed devil fruit is as strong as Whitebeards?
