Yet in that case they pretty much continued where the manga left off, 4Kids funding or not. I heard there was a crappy ending to the Japanese series and when 4Kids gave the funding, they just went ahead with the manga all the way to the end of the Choujin Olympics. Probably one of the few good things that company did for anime.

Because the series isn't that popular here. Most of the jokes don't translate well. In fact, Sawaii himself was baffled about it being serialized in America.
I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

The page was an old one put up around the time of the anime's start (in '03) and really hasn't been updated for a while (at least since '05). Not much to say there.
As for the manga…well they are prodding their way through Cyber City one chapter at a time. Not really sure why Sawai avoided releasing anything prior to Hallelujah Land (some of his funniest stuff is before that arc...even though there's some classic stuff after that), but it could be like Araki avoiding his pre-Stand stuff due to not having his "formula" right yet.

Yeah, didn't realize about the characters but I did know they did get to the Mantaro/Kevin match and changed it so there wouldn't be anything further afterwards. (since I guess they knew they weren't going to be renewed again and get to the Ashuraman arc) But its still better than nothing, 4Kids or no 4Kids.

I dont know why they just dont translate the series normally, Japanese puns and all. In reality, on the fans and people who understand the jokes will buy the manga.

At this point regarding an American release, personally I wish maybe they could just skip after Cyber City to the Reverse Maruhage arc (well starting from the tournament stuff)…yeah it will cause even more confusion, but it could at least get us on the path to getting the rest of the story out that the Americans wouldn't get otherwise.

Well, the whole point of serializing in another country is to gain a larger fanbase. If the joke is native to Japan, most of the people who are casual manga readers will fail to grasp it. Therefore, it's necessary to alter some jokes to fit that particular culture (in this case, Americanizing it). The diehard fans of the original may not like this, but that's not the target audience.

Well, visual gags are one thing. If you have people playing shogi or people with paper fans doing a dance, you can't exactly change the joke. Having an explanation for that is fine; it's easy to explain in an afterword. But most of the jokes in manga like Bobobo are based on verbal puns; as such, they can be changed without really changing the story or the artwork.
I've read different mangas that have done both. Saiyuki, for example has a lot of jokes or Chinese/Japanese cultural references, and there's a whole glossary explaining it. There's only one pun I can remember in the translation, and that's when Goku mispronounces Sanzo's name as "Zo", or Elephant. When it's one joke here and there, that's fine. But in a series like Bo X 7, it becomes tedious having to do that every page.

Speaking of BoBoBo DVDs, I've seen places online stating that Volume 3,4 are TBA 2012. What the hell is this? Why is this falling apart?
Also, in case anyone was paying attention, the BoBoBo manga on the VIZ website now says "Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo SJ Advanced Edition". Wonder if that means we'll see further graphic novels under the regular line…

Illumitoon's first DVD was of fairly low quality, though to their credit they did make a trade-in (though on the other hand, that was discontinued and rather than ship the superior versions in all later orders they went back to the subpar original). My favorite part is that the DVD FORCES you at the start (before the menu screen) to watch a one and a half minute commercial…for the DVD you just bought. I don't mind lots of commercials prior to the menu, but they should at least make it possible to skip to the menu.
The second one was better though. Still, definitely I wouldn't mind if another company brought out the DVDs instead. I'd personally really like it if they'd provide the Spanish language tracks along with the English/Japanese...

Well, that sucks that the DVDs have been discontinued. I really doubt anyone else wants to dabble in BoBoBo after this. The TOEI DVD curse lives on.
So VIZ is finally releasing more BoBoBo graphic novels, eh? That's nice, except at the rate they're going, it'll be about 2 volumes every year.

Couple more things:
-The final volume of Shinsetsu (and thus, the final volume of Bo-bobo ever) will be coming out at the start of January.
-I got the Bo-bohon a couple weeks back…and sometimes you need to wonder how they decided to list nearly everything in that series. (yet it only goes up to the end of the Former Maruhage arc) Plus somehow seeing Don Patch and Tennosuke as Light and L is just funny.
-Sawai's new one-shot last week, Kuru Fukurou, was strange. Old people kicking butt against gang members and Hatenko clones. Kind of doubt this will be his new series since...well OK, it might work but who knows.

I think its assistants drawing them. I remember one of the early Bo-bobo volumes where Sawai's assistants at the time drew the leads. (including Matsui doing a creepy version of Beauty…but of course with Neuro, everyone knows what he draws like)

I never got to see all of the anime. I kinda wish I had not neglected to watch it if I had known the DVD's were being discontinued… Is the manga any good? I'm sure it is but I wouldn't mind hearing some opinions.
Yeah, it is pretty good (even though I've only read about the first 20 chapters of it, not to mention the Hellokulani arc…I'm up to the one w/ the Garlic head (I think his name was J), since of course I'm reading it in SJ

There is a volume coming out in about July…but its the stuff they published in the American Jump. (AKA: Cyber City) I still don't get why Sawai and Viz would have to ruin the run of this series when France gets to show the whole manga from the beginning. As many classic moments the series gets later, you can't leave out the early stuff either. (particularly the Gunkan and OVER arcs)
Well that sucks. I want to read it from the start. And for collecting purpose I don't want to own half the series. I wish Viz wouldn't fuck around so much with it.

I started out reading chapter 1 of the manga, but about 20 pages in I stopped and instead watched the first two dub episodes on veoh. The anime went faster, but seemed to lack what I read of those 20 pages. I also hear the anime and the English dub is toned down in the anime.
I'm mainly into manga, so I think I'm gonna go for the manga… but I'm worried about the intensive Japanese pop culture and puns in the series and how scanlations are gonna treat that.
EDIT: I got a problem, I dunno where to get the manga. Onemanga only has the first 20 chapters, and Lurk's IRC only has the first 3 volumes.

The first few Bo-bobo episodes sort of play around with the manga material a bit and do cut out a few gags compared to many of the later episodes. The first episode in particular fuses together one of the pilot chapters (the part about Bo-bobo "hearing hair" was in a pilot, the only flashback in the real first chapter was his dad pretty much throwing him to the Hair Hunters) as well as sneaking in the first appearance of Don Patch, which actually happened after a couple other things. The anime and the manga don't really match up until after you get past many of the introductory things…but even still, a couple gags have been changed even in the anime. (see "the BBQ dragon" instead of Osiris)
I've never been able to find a place that had all the chapters.
every scanlation team out there is AFRAID of this series.
