The episode was pretty decent to me but hell's memory was so badly done but everything else was ok. I think it's the soundtrack that made it feel meh. As much as I think this episode made the scenes less epic than in the manga, I thought to myself. Hey, it could be worse

Ok, here are my opinions about the finishers of the SH crew:
Brook's Blizzard cut: It was actually pretty nice, though i think it lacked "impact", or "power" just a bit.
Chopper's Carving hoof: It seemed a bit slow, but otherwise i can't complain.
Usopp's Impact wolf: I really didn't like this one. It was slow and moved awkvardly, and Daruma just collided with it and fell. It didn't live up to it's name.
Franky's Radical beam: I actually think that they handeled this quite well. I got no complaints about this one.
Jinbei's Vagabond drill: Eh, i'm pretty neutral about this one. There wasn't anything bad about it, but i didn't get that "strongest attack" feeling about it. otherwise it was pretty good.
Sanji's hell memories: Oh god, what are you doing Toei!? Sanji combusted nicely, but after that everything just went wrong. Instead of Wadatsumi also combusting and burning and everything, some small and awkvard flames just appeared. Since Sanji is my favourite character in all of One Piece, that really grinded my gears.
Zoro's Rengoku onigiri: A still frame?! Man, he got screwed over even worse than Sanji. But one thing that bothered me, even in the manga: He didn't even turn around when he attacked, so how the could Hyozou even get hurt?
Luffy's Elephant gun and Elephant gattling: WOW, just WOW. Those attacks made my day. Nice animation. 10/10.
Aaaand thats the end of my rant. I do actually really look forward to the PH arc.

lol the filler was stupid and didnt make any sense, a Red Hawk in the water and Hordy was almost dead, then a Red Hawk in the air that did nothing?? WTF was that?? Fishman are supposed to be a lot stronger in the water (especially vs a devil fruit user) but here it looks like the battle was closer in the air.
They missed the whole point of the battle, Hordy was only a fly for Luffy, nothing else. Those stupid fillers hurt the anime so much… otherwise its ok. -

Watched the episode.
No wonder OP has such small fanbase in my country. The manga is awesome, but Poland is all about watching anime. So with animation like this in a episode that ends an arc (don't lie to yourselves, we all know that the finishing attacks are every arcs eye-candy) it's REALLY weak.So TL;DR the episode wasn't even close to what I was expecting.

Rewatched it. Still bothered by the fact that Luffy called Shirahoshi by her name in the filler. I also re-read the manga parts of that and Luffy indeed keeps calling her weakhoshi. For some reason I feel like this little tidbit might be part of foreshadowing for future events and Shirahoshi's character development. She's a pretty important character as we learn later this arc. The finishers in general really were lackluster. They had a lot more weight in the manga. Especially Impact Wolf. What the hell was that? Geez. On the flipside everything with Luffy was really well animated. Still a good episode, I think.

….....completely underwhelmed, i was thinking that they couldn't screw up the SH's new finishers and i was completely wrong, I've been hearing allot of people saying that their disappointed with OP lately for various reasons but i kept my comments to myself, i stayed faithful thinking that it will get better but im just not seeing any improvement what so ever. (the fact they didn't even bother showing Whitebeards flashback angers me greatly)
I hate this, i miss thriller bark and CP9, im thinking of droping OP for a while maybe rewatch some sagas again and come up to date with a marathon.

agreed it's only worse when fans defend it to the death lol like every time there's a couple bad episodes all you'll hear is " the good animators are working on a movie" or " it'll be better in the next arc" when it never is

It's been said many times, but they just do not care at all. They don't care that they're turning this fucking fable into some B-movie (well it's still better than that even when it's crappy in the anime). They know outright that they can animate this however they want and the kiddies will still watch.
If I was a Japanese citizen I would be furious, I'm actually surprised that there's not petitions against this (only people like Aohige would know about that).
But on the bright side… Fishman Island is almost done!

I was mainly talking about the adults (although I certainly didn't specify, so my bad).
Though, I have to wonder, is it generally considered "otaku" behavior in Japan to watch cartoons/anime?
I know reading manga there is much more acceptable, and it's frequently the heavy anime consumers that I see being portrayed as sedentary in Japanese media.
If it IS otaku behavior, then I can see why the adults may not watch the cartoon nearly as much as they read the manga (which had mainly adults reading it as opposed to kids and teenagers, surprisingly enough, and satisfyingly enough!)I also didn't read the source material on my Saturday cartoons; didn't even know of its existence.

That makes sense. It's interesting that even during prime time the viewership is still mainly younger. And yeah, 'course there're parents watching. Still… picturing me watching this show with my 8 year old little kid, or maybe even 13... I just can't do it, haha. I know they surely do, but it's just so weird for me to picture a parent, sitting their child down on their cozy couch, handing their kid some wholesome breakfast and then tuning into their cartoon about racism and steroids, touching the milk to their young'in's lips as blood spews out of Hody. I imagine looking at Hody's bloody face would make my milk taste sour.

I'd probably be OK with that (anime version, I would not be OK with showing them the manga version as it is much more gruesome, in my opinion) as long as they understood the moral: sometimes things just don't work out the way you planned them to, no matter how hard you try. Certainly do try, but don't expect rosy results every single time.
I don't think I've said my full thoughts on the episode, but that's mainly because they were covered so beautifully by Thousand Lion-Chan. So… I suppose I'll just say what I DID like. I liked Radical Beam, thought they matched the manga pretty well with Franky's semi-hyper-detailed face, and then the beam shooting off. I thought Sanji's Hell Memories was pretty good, too. Chopper's was just mangled beyond all recognition, unlike his enemy.
This is a complaint with the source material, but personally I'd have liked Luffy to save Red Hawk for later on (we wouldn't have had the fire in water problem--only Sanji would remain in that department) to completely obliterate an enemy, and for Elephant Gatling Gun to be all he needed. I felt that, even though he was gorging on steroids like hotcakes, Hody still got up too much from time-skip Luffy, almost frustratingly so.

Blah. Only some parts seemed to be animated well. It's kinda weird but I like this arc much less after watching the anime. I didn't hate FI arc, but now I find it terribly boring.

I actually enjoyed the filler fight as I thought something was missing in the manga. Without it, in my opinion Luffy would have had no opponent. In the manga Hordy did jack squat against him and I was really disappointed. I know Hordy was suppose to be more of a nuisance than an actual opponent for Luffy, and that's what dragged down the arc for me. There were definite problems with it though such as Hordy being faster than Luffy on land. As for the reason why the Red Hawk was weaker, Hordy took a nice bite on his left shoulder. Other than that, I liked it.
Brooke's finisher was well done, as was Franky's and Zoro's. Chopper, Usopp, and Sanji's definitely needed more kick. Choppers seemed like he just brushed aside him, Usopp's attack didn't look strong at all, and Sanji's was too abrupt.
Not sure about this one, but was Luffy's Gear Third arms smaller than usual? I keep coming back to the impression of when he first used it against Rob Lucci, and his arm was massive. In this episode they seemed a lot smaller as they were only a bit larger than Hordy.
Favorite part was definitely elated monster Chopper. That voice
