Bunch of doped egoes
The MC heroes
They are all they are all they are…
Woah, someone needs to screencap Luffy's face before that attack, if you've seen it you'll know what I mean. Very weird art style.
Sweet, looks like Kuroyanagi, Ishizuka, and Shuichi Ito are doing key animation.
holly fuck creepy fillers
holly fuck creepy fillers
Can't blame them. All they had left was a bunch of double spreads and 5 pages.
hope they end this good
For every two-page spread Oda does, Toei sacrifices another minute or two to the filler gods.
They made Luffy have problems against Hody.LAME.
very good episode. elephant gatling very well made imo.
I really enjoyed this episode, especially Chopper's "you asshole" dance, the creepy voice made it even more awesome.
They made Hell's Memories way too fast
Great episode and all but I feel like down played some finishers such as the "Impact Wolf" and Sanji's "Hell Memories". Still, a great episode overall.
That was good. Luffy parts were probably the best, the other finishers felt kind of underwhelming, but it was still a pretty good episode I think. Also, did Luffy end up calling Shirahoshi by her name in the manga?
I remember him still calling her weakhoshi by the end of the arc for some reason.
The final attacks were…mostly meh, to be honest. I liked the buildup to some of them, but the were largely executed too quickly to be able to soak them in. I only really liked Franky's and Brook's overall. Elephant Gatling was really good, though.
I'm half-and-half on how they extended Luffy vs Hody. On one, hand, I'm glad they did, and there were some very well animated scenes this episode, but I couldn't help but groan when they tried to imply that Hody's attack may have taken Luffy out. Yeah...sorry, not buying it for a millisecond.
Decent episode overall, in my book. Kinda underwhelming, but they got a few things right, I suppose.
Decent episode. The material that they had wasn't very content filled, so they did ok with the filler.
They covered around 25 pages, which is good.
Next week I expect the remainder of 645 (it's like 3 pages), and the whole of 647.
seems like the only finishers they put work in was brooks everyone else's seem pretty tame than they were in the manga especially usopps.
The episode was way better than last week's, but cramming all the finishers into one episode made the animation suffer quite badly. Was great in some places but very noticeably bad in others. I did still like the episode regardless & next week's animation seems to be more promising
Wow, the Strawhats finishers sucked, IMO. They were executed badly. The only good thing about the ep is the Elephant Gun and the Jet gattling.
The directing by Miyamoto was terrible overall, but I liked some of the filler fighting.

it's Elephant Gun and Elephant Gatling

this had to be the creepiest thing in todays episode
!
Where art thou subs?
Eh, most of the finishers felt like they were less epic than they should have been. Come on, its supposed to be the moment where we are in awe at how much they've advanced, and not a single one looked like it hit harder than any of the other moves the SH used so far. Impact wolf in particular looked like it just knocked him off balance. The Tunnel bomb looked like it did more than that.
Also, RIP Hody, one of the worst villains in OP. Though its more due to narrative necessity than anything else, since having Luffy actually struggle against a nobody without major disadvantages would completely ruin the point of the timeskip.
A very bittersweet episode.
While I liked the finishers and Elephant Gun & Gatling, the Hody vs Luffy padding and mini-filler during the first half was terrible. I knew it was coming, but I wish it was handled better. Really disappointing.
If I were to rank the SH finishers (excluding Luffy) from least to greatest in terms of animation, it would be:
Purgatory Oni-Giri, Impact Wolf, Carving Hoof Palm, Pastoral Song: Blizzard Cut, Hell's Memories, Franky Radical Beam.
EDIT: Almost forgot. The Monster Point Chopper dance was perfect. That is all.
Where the hell is Miss Saturday?
Man, the key animation was all over the place this week. Elephant Gun and Gatling were amazing, and then there were little touches that I thought were animated all right like Zeo's spinning chains, the lead-ins to Rengoku Oni Giri and Radical Beam, and parts of Luffy's fight at the beginning of the episode, but then there's…well, most of the finishers. I mean, Chopper's wasn't any different from the hand swipes he always does in that form, and I think Usopp's plants are dumb so I don't care if they get good animation or not, but they were just underwhelming. They had at least three special animators on this episode, one pulled his weight admirably, but I don't understand why the other two couldn't have been given parts that would've shown off their skills more.
This is the third time they've played that new track. I wonder if they're dipping into the Z vault early?
The episode was decent. The fights felt a little rushed and underwhelming, but they were still enjoyable.
If there was ever a time to use the We Go instrumental as a bgm track though, it would've been this episode, imo. The music they used wasn't bad, not at all, but in my head I always pictured We Go playing in the background as the Straw Hats did their awesome finishers.
I enjoyed the episode. It was definitely one of the better ones in the entire arc for me – but why? Well, a good 90% of the reason would be that it's all finally over. But as far as the animation, art style, and pacing is concerned, the episode was fairly nice.
Two points: One, Toei was astronomically lazy with their filler during the first half. If you need a little fighting filler to stretch out the episode, why would you make the two characters throw their old attacks at each other again? How many times is Hody gonna lose his dentures? What's the calcium count on those pills, cause god damn. And a second Red Hawk one episode AFTER its debut only cheapens it.
And two: Sanji's Hell Memories was drawn very pretty, but executed very badly. He wasn't shown even hitting Wadatsumi. He just spontaneously combusted and so did Wadatsumi. 'kay.
Looking forward to next week's very much.
Where the hell is Miss Saturday?
Being exploited at my new job; nothin' much. Making me miss a new One Piece episode is cause for quitting on the spot and spitting in the manager's eye, if you ask me
Fucking pathetic episode. Lol at the filler of Luffy struggling against Hody, lol at Shirahoshi crying like a bitch every 1 min (she said Luffy like 3 times in almost the same scene), and lol at the finishing moves of the Straw Hat crew… Hell Memories you said Toei? Luffy's first punch to Alvida had more impact to it... I was trying for the last 20 episodes to find something amusing about the anime, but these guys are just so good at making everything look sooooo bad. Definitely dropping the anime for some months, hoping that the next ark is going to be watchable.
And where was the part of the fishmen remembering about Whitebeard?
I liked the earlier filler fights with Hodi, that seemed to help the anime pacing here. However, the end of this fight is odd. Now, in the manga Hodi was practically dead with Red Hawk and Luffy instantly ended it with Elephant Gun, and it seems unclear where Hodi lands after being hit. Now the anime seems to assume that, after Elephant Gun, Hodi was left in range of freaking Elephant Gatling, and actually tanked several hits from that attack cause in this version he's unbreakable. It just feels so weird seeing things done this way. It gives the finale a little more tension, and a little more action at the expense of Luffy looking a little weaker. Then again, ever with all the filler Luffy was still superior by far. I can see the benefit in taking this direction, but I'm just surprised change. For the longest time I always assumed that Hodi just lied KOed in Noah somewhere until Luffy finished this attacked on Noah.
Impact Wolf is my new favorite one piece character.
For the longest time I always assumed that Hodi just lied KOed in Noah somewhere until Luffy finished this attacked on Noah.
Well, remember what happens to the Noah afterwards, and where it is taken. And what becomes of Hody/Decken and where they are taken to. It wouldn't make sense for him to stay in the Noah. That being said, I can't blame Toei for going their own route. Oda was really cloudy with the details throughout this entire arc and very sloppy with the exposition of characters, places and events (if it wasn't for the anime I still would not know where the hell that bubble-making place is and what it does).
did anyone notice the scene in which Luffy actually says Shirahoshi's name which he has never done in the manga?
And where was the part of the fishmen remembering about Whitebeard?
They'll probably show it next week in the middle of the episode that is supposed to cover 647. Don't blame them for not including it this episode.. it would have felt so out of place.
Haven't watched it yet but did Luffy really call Shirahoshi by her name? Way to go, TOEI, adding filler that spits on the story of the manga.
one of the worst fillers in a canon storyline(personally i think its the worst). i cant express clearly how bad the filler was. ok,hordy is faster than luffy's gear second,WHAT?and shirahoshi keeps saying "luffy-sama" every damn second(no exaggeration). they even showed luffy couldn't dodge his shark arrows(observation?). instead of the crappy filler, they could have spent some more time on the strawhat's final attacks.i can't understand how these morons think.other than the filler,it was a good episode.brooks and choppers attacks were good.others were too short, but overall animation was good.
Since I'm an anime-only watcher, I had to check the manga chapters of this episode just to see exactly what was filler in today's Luffy vs. Hody.
That being said, if they're gonna add these minifillers, I dont mind Toei putting them into fights. BUT, even though Luffy had some MINOR problems againt Hody, that fighting filler made it seem like Luffy was in somewhat major problems, and in my opinion it changes the whole mood for the fight.
Still, elephant gun and gatling were animated beautifully, they showed just how overpowered post-timeskip Luffy should be, and somewhat saved the episode for me.
As for the rest of the episode, I enjoyed it quite much. No other complaints.
i fucking hate this episode…when did luffy get owned by Hordy!
unreal filler why Oda allows this shit.
i will stop to watch the anime from now on
Kinda weak ep, but Robin with the sunglasses during the Radical Beam was cool.
They seriously fucked up Hells Memories hard… god that was awful
so anyone like the 2nd red hawk?

There's way too much filler shit, I'm done with this anime.
Ugh, that filler fighting with Hody really pissed me off.
The whole point of Luffy vs Hody was that Hody was a nothing character that couldn't even begin to stand up against Luffy. It was only his twisted, misguided hatred and a ton of drugs that even let him give Luffy as much trouble as he did. I have no idea what Toei was thinking giving a Lucci-esque fight against an opponent who wasn't meant to be capable of giving Luffy a truly hard time let alone fight toe to toe with him (well I do but I want to sound dramatic).
Just about everything they did was handled wrong. I'll make a comparison with how the anime handled it compared to the manga.
1. Hody took Red Hawk. Got back on his feet and took more steroids. Wrong.
Hody was supposed to take the drugs immediately near the point of impact with the ship. Otherwise Red Hawk would have finished him off there and then and it was only with the energy steroids that he could even survive the hit. It shows just how much of a monster power house Luffy has become and how Hody was way out of his league.
2. A big deal was made when Hody got back up especially by Luffy. Wrong
Luffy barely registered Hody getting up just making a small comment on how tough he is, he was more interested in beginning his attack on the ship. This completely changes the tone of the battle. From a dangerous opponent to be feared to a minor annoyance that didn't know when to quit. Which is how it was supposed to be.
3. Hody took a second Red Hawk and shook it off. WRONG!!!
I can't begin to describe how much this pisses me off. A second Red Hawk makes the attack lose its impact and charm. MUCH more so when Hody shakes it off too. It makes the attack look weak, it makes Luffy look weak.
4. Luffy's filler fight against Hody on dry land. Wrong!!!
Again, Hody was nothing to Luffy, that was the whole point. So Luffy having trouble against a battered and almost destroyed Hody makes no sense.
5. Luffy's Gatling Gun vs Hody's Shark Attack. Wrong!!!
Making Hody seem like he put up a valiant last attack that Luffy ahd to push through is wrong. Luffy was supposed to simply dodge the attack and just being wailing on Hody and the Noah. Sure the former is more cinematic but the latter makes more sense (and more refreshingly original). The point of the scene was that Hody was so weak compared to Luffy that he couldn't even go the whole way against Luffy in a battle. He was obliterated in a pathetic manner while Luffy still had more than enough vitality left in him to destroy a fucking giant ark! His defeat was treated as an afterthought which is important to show how small he was compared to the big picture which is the ark. It fits how weak the character is both physically and emotionally where even his divine rage is just treateted as the joke it is.
And that's the whole crux of the character. He was never supposed to be a real threat to Luffy. Not only is it important in terms of the internal logic of the series regarding Luffy's strength but also in making a point on how, with all his blind rage and vile motives and divine strength, he could barely do anything. It makes him come off as a pathetic joke which, again, was the whole point of what extremist racism is.
And Toei missed that message spectacularly in their misguided attempts to make the fight more "epic" for the kiddies. I think the fight would have been more meaningful and exciting if it were handled like the manga with the theme of the fight still intact rather than this cliche schlock.
Fucking lame.

16 chars of That.
This episode… let's just say it's a very forgettable one.
The filler was just downright awful. AWFUL.
The finishers were supposed to look cool as shit, but damned Toei downplayed all of them with lazy animation, wonky art, and horrible pacing.
God, why.

^That.
Also the finishers… Really, Toei? Usopp, Sanji and Chopper's didn't even look like finishing-moves as much as them just knocking the NFPs back slightly, and Zoro's was just a still frame… Seriously, not cool.
So yeah. Really underwhelming episode.
