! As expected, old man mcgucket wasn't the author. It would have been too obvious. So, I guess is likely that Stan's brother/ Mabel & Dipper's grandfather was the author? He's the only candidate at this point.
I feel that this episode gave depth to mcgucket's character. If it weren't for the mind wiping machine, he wouldn't have been that crazy. Kinda remind me of Simon from Adventure Time.
I wonder if mcgucket would be a more important character from now on.
It is pretty weird that Dipper didn't get his memory wipe. That guy has been exposed to supernatural stuff since the beginning of summer. Also Mabel, Soos, Wendy, Stan and Gideon.
I love all the throwbacks to previous episode. Mermando and Robby in Fight fighter.

My guess is that there was a third scientist with Stan and McGucket. He went through the portal, leaving only the books behind.

! I'm more stuck on everyone forgetting the Gobblewonker episode. Like that McGucket built and operated giant death robots for a hobby. Or that he had a son who might know a little of his past. Somehow I don't think the society gunned the Mystery Gang for that.

When I first heard Toot-Toot, I thought for a minute it was Patrick Stewart playing him. Turns out it's Pete Serafinowicz.
Great episode, though now I have even more questions.
! Im honestly a bit glad that the McGucket=Author theory was proven false, even if I 100% stood for it before. Since it turns out he had something to do with everything it evens things out. And even better, the mystery of who is the real author is getting more intense, since there is no longer a prime suspect (except perhaps Stan's possible twin).
! As for why the society never wiped the mystery shack kid's memories… well, part of me thinks its just a form of plothole, though there may be some other reasons. I don't think they left them intentionally for other purposes, they didn't seem like they had any knowledge of the big picture. They had absolutely nothing to gain from it.
But from what we know, Dipper, Mabel, Wendy, Stan, Soos and most likely Gideon have their memories intact. Dipper and Mabel could be explained with them not coming from Gravity Falls, and thusly the society simply don't know them well enough to follow their every move. For example, note that when Robbie mentioned Dipper in his memory, he didn't call him by name.
! But my best bet is that this is all or partly thanks to Grunkle Stan.

Wow. Would not have guessed it from the previews, but to me Blendin's Game is on the level of Into the Bunker and Sock Opera. Another great episode.
The moment with Dipper and Wendy was genius. A beautiful nail in the coffin.
Agreed, I laughed my ass off at that scene.
Also, Robbie referring to himself as Laser Robbie was amusing but I did not particularly enjoy it, but it set up the Young Robbie scene, which was probably my biggest laugh of the night.
There's something about the Laser Robbie thing that I loved, though, in how they just placed him in that scene purely to be the jerk.
Episode was great. I came in expecting an average episode but I got an awesome episode showcasing Soos and the twins relationship. Soos decision wasn't that much of a surprise. Glad he realise who are most important to him.
What if Mabel was really related to that guy after all? Lol
I actually didn't know Blendin has the same voice actor as Lemongrab. It was really weird.
Wendy and Dipper moment was pretty cute.

Far as the scheduling goes, who knows? Disney is all over the place with their animated shows; Phineas and Ferb has been airing its fourth season since 2012 and will be doing so well into next year. Wander Over Yander has had several breaks that were months long each.

That's been happening a lot lately to Disney shows in general. Pretty much every episode of Rebels has been out for over a week befote it aired.
! Not gonna lie, I was really hoping for Robbie and Tambry to get together. Sure, Robbie's a jerk, but he's a person with feelings too, and I'm glad they portrayed him in a more human light (much like Pacifica)
! Though, yeah, not forcing the anti-love potion on the people they had already forced together in the first place…kind of a mixed message.
I dont get the sentiment. This episode was infinitely hilarious. Rjat Stan and Soos subplot was incredible.

The message at the end of it was weird but the overall episode was great. I dont get the dislike at all.
It's because the message was bonkers. Prior to this, most of the stories had a good narrative followed by a positive message at the end for kids. But this…this was just weird in an awkward way. This episode certainly needed a rewrite to get some of the kinks knocked out (the Stan/Soos story was fine but...everything else was really really weird). Also note that the message in itself is NOT that complex but they somehow managed to fuddle it up with this awkwardness.
It's not BAD per say, but...kinda weird.
At least over at the TVTropes forums, the only other message boards which I check out the reactions for shows I follow, seems that the general controversy stems from:
! 1) Mabel's sudden sympathy for Robbie, which he doesn't deserve considering some of the screwed up things he's done and their attitudes towards each other before this episode.
! 2) Not using the anti-love potion. It's wise but… not yet wise? Like it's an artificially developed relationship but you can't . Though as valiantt said it was probably how they executed the concept that irked people more than the decision which leads to...
! 3) Thompson. Even if we take his (surprisingly masochistic) words that he'd be willing to suffer for the sake of his friends and him getting hit by the guards was kinda funny... yeah it can come off as uncomfortable not just what physically happens to him but also the implications behind the whole group dynamic.
! Well, I personally liked it, but I can definitely see where all the gripes have come from, especially since previous episodes like Blendin's Game managed to handle conflict quite well with the characters' traits while still being fun and/or unconventional.
! At least for Gripe #2 above, I think a better solution that has been pointed out would be to tell Robbie and Tambry about the love potion and see if they want to go through with being de-loved.
! If they'd just inserted a few lines, like, maybe the effects of the love potion are temporary, and yet, Robbie and Tambry are still together because they have become genuinely attracted to each other (the love potion was just a catalyst). Then Dipper and Mabel can still be tempted to use the anti-love potion for the sake of getting the group back together, but ultimately decide not to.
! If they had done something like that, there'd probably be a lot fewer complaints.
! Yeah if the story was ironed out a LITTLE bit more, then there would be a whole lot less problems with the Robby/Tambry thing. Just a FEW little lines or tweaks and it could have worked with the only other unsettling thing being Thompson as Pachylad stated. The problem is that the romance is essentially "forced" upon them and even until they end, both parties have no say about it (in spite of the fact both seem happier for it). So what is the message then? "Romance is great when it's forced upon you?" "It doesn't matter what either party thinks, just do what YOU think would make them happy?" Any way you try to interpret the ending, it just feels really…bonkers.
! It would be like in Blendin's Game if Dipper and Mabel used the time...thingy and wished for Soos' dad to show up rather than having Soos make the decision for himself. It wouldn't necessarily destroy the episode, but it would certainly contort the strong message they had going for it as well as STRONG character development for Soos. The same could have been done with Robby and given him a stronger development for giving up on Wendy and moving on. BUT...the resolve was forced upon him so there was VERY little development on his part. So technically Robby didn't learn anything from this. I mean he COULD have, but...nope his problems were magically solved without any thought or effort on his part.
! What this episode needed is SHOWING Robby and Tambry getting along and having HIM come to a realization on his own volition. Oh and definitely make the love potion temporary. Yeaaah... that bugs me so much.
! Far as Mabel feeling bad for Robbie goes, her reasoning that she can't be happy if she knows someone isn't kind of rings hollow to me. It didn't help that they showed The Time Traveler's Pig this morning where she was definitely content with sacrificing Dipper's happiness for her own.
Usually I rationalize Mabel's inconsistencies with it being generally her personality in that she makes whatever rules comes along her way. But generally her actions are generally self motivated in such that she does whatever makes "her happy" and thus makes up the rules to suit her own interests (which I find it fascinating that Mabel's self interested behavior WAS brought up a number of times such as with the sock puppet episode). It is one of her flaws (and it's great that the writers are fully aware of this) so it's hard to put any fault in it.
One great thing (OK maybe not really great) I can say with this episode is that it is probably the GF episode which has provoked me to think hard about not just the episode plot but also what implications it may have on the characters and the larger story as a whole.
Probably gonna be the most controversial episode of the entire series.
