That is right ladies and gentlemen, over the course of 50 days, starting on Monday, June 25th, we are going to be rewatching on of the most divisive television shows of all time: Lost.

This little adventure stemmed from a few of us discussing the idea in the recently revived Lost Season 6 thread, and everyone is invited to participate!

Despite this being a “rewatch” new viewers are more than welcome, and are heavily encouraged to participate. We veterans of the series are here to help you out, answer any questions you have (without spoiling the series of course!), and to make sure you don’t get lost (teehee.) If a discussion does come up about how the episode that is being viewed plays into the overall series, we will clearly mark it as spoilers.

Now that you’ve taken a look at it, let me break it down for you.
I decided to got with an alternating schedule of 3 episodes one day and then 2 the next (with every season finale block (except for the last) being 4 episodes, but those are all the result of a double episode.) I figured that this would be the perfect balance, as I know not everyone is capable of watching five or more episodes a day, and I do know that people can get busy, so the shorter days can be used as catch-up (in addition to the actual catch up days which act as the season breaks.)

To my surprise this schedule ended up working perfectly and ended up taking a nicely even 50 days.

So buckle up everyone, as this is going to be a fun, if often bumpy, ride!

Seems like a fun idea all in all, but even for summer, three episodes a day of an hour long show may be harsh on most people's schedules. (Okay, 44 minute. But that's still two and a half hours.) And then needing time to reflect and participate and actually talk about it?

I don't know that I'll be participating, so its really up to whoever else joins in. But that might be too fast a pace… though obviously its easy to get addicted.

That's the biggest dilemma I had in planning the schedule, honestly. And you're last bit is mainly why I went with an alternating schedule. I know there are gong to be points when everyone just wants to get to the next episode.

But yeah, 2 and a half hours of view time, plus discussion is a bit much.

Doing 2 episodes a day flat outis easier, and if that's the consensus I can easily make that change the schedule to reflect that. Though there will still have to be a 3 episode day for the first season finale since it's 3 hours long.

It'll also bump the length up to 60 days, which was my main worry to begin with, as I fear it my interfere with some people's school schedules. That's also why I made it so it started Monday, even though that's a short turn around time from when this information gets out.

But yeah, if the majority of people would rather do 2 episodes a day, I'll make the change to the schedule.

I'll probably be better off with your schedule, tbh. The later it goes into August the less time I will have. Plus, people who already saw the series can always just comment on the scheduled episode based on what they remember if they don't have time to watch it all.

But yea, I'm looking forward to this. I started the show after it ended on TV and really didn't get to talk about it too much.

Yes, join us! I will say that it's probably a lot easier to get into (and through–in some parts) this series when you're watching it with others. Watching it alone can at time be somewhat discouraging.

Yeah, I honestly figured a lot of vets who know the series well enough would take this route.
I know there are a few episodes here and there that I'm going to skip, but I still know well enough to talk about!

That's a great idea! I'll look into setting a stream up for some of the major episodes. (Season premieres, finales, and various others as voted upon by this group I think should work.)

I watched the first episode of Lost the night of the series premier, and I pride myself on not having missed ONE weekly episode. I miss those nights…crying, laughing, gritting my teeth.

I just don't want this to be a chore...but I'll participate for as long as I can. I may start the even a little late since I need to get myself hard copies of the series ( Really low internet monthly cap) but I'll be popping in anyways to share some insights.

This reminds me of the monthly manga catch up the forums did with One Piece during the time-skip break. (I survived the 4 week break!!!)

Just got done with Tabula Rasa.

Holy smokes do I love these three episodes.
I remember catching the Pilot back when it first aired. I was 12 years old and I was getting home from a band rehearsal and my parents were watching it. I got in at the scene at the very end of the first episode right before the Pilot got grabbed. I just stood there, bag dangling off my arm, eyes glued to the screen. I was hooked. I never missed an episode after that.

All three of these episodes are just great, as is most of season 1 (it's my favorite over all season, though I do think the shows best episodes happen in later seasons.) They do such a fantastic job of establishing the characters.

And as much as I love the pilot (and I love it a lot) Tabula Rasa is my personal favorite out of today's group. We got our first real flashback of the show, and some great insight into Kate and Sawyer's characters. The look on Sawyer's face after he realizes the marshal is still alive is just fantastic. Great acting by Holloway.

And that ending scene, with the music playing is just fantastic. As is the cheesily dramatic music cue on Locke's face right before the fade to black.

I'm not going to lie, it was really hard for me to stop watching. I immediately wanted to start in on Walkabout, and I really wanted to watch White Rabbit.

Anyway those are my thoughts at the moment.

Just finished them a little bit ago. Jeez what a great series opener. I really can't even imagine what it must have been like to watch that when it first aired. Its easy to see why it became such a phenomenon. Even in the beginning of the show, the massive number of main characters that are introduced at once aren't stereotypes.

Tabula Rasa was nice too, probably my favorite Kate story.

My favorite part.

Well as I began to watch the first episode I quietly hummed "three hour tour" as we see the air-wreck. I like the camera jumping the line of action to help with the confusion. How prepared Jack was… I kept thinking my fat ass would not survive this. Pretty intense first 20 minutes with the wreckage. I'm glad this is an hour because otherwise we wouldn't get a chance to let everything sink in.

The man with the orange and the color thread line made me laugh. I'm going to assume man of the orange plays bigger part later on, because they highlight him too much here.

Jurrassic Park flashbacks when we get to the plane scene. I'm really enjoying the mystery aspect of this. While Charlies, "Hey I'm Charlie" lines are funny... I don't like the character, does anyone else think he comes off as a druggie? I mean he is in a band.

The Pilot is great. I remember watching it, I think in 2006, and I was so overwhelmed! Two-parters are always awesome in Lost, it feels like youre watching a big, epic movie. Its great to see all the characters so fresh and young. I remember watching this episode with a friend the first time and we just loved the orange scene. Funny, yet kinda creepy at the same time. We were already intrigued by Locke. Sayid wins best character in the pilot though, imho. So levelheaded and calm and likeable. Love the scene where he tells Hurley what side he fought on in the Gulf War. The Pilot has tons of great scenes, the first 10 to 20 minutes for example, or the trek to the front part of the plane (that scene feels like straight out of a horror movie, doesn`t it?). But the one that hooked me is the one at the end. Hearing the french transmission, everybody screaming at each other, having shocked looks on their faces, Sayid calmly trying to calculate how many years it has been playing in his head, Shannon translating the creepy message and then, Charlies question at the end: "Guys, where are we?" Perfect scene, always gives me goosebumps.

Tabula Rasa is a very cool episode, too. Very good introduction to the weekly flashback format. I wouldnt say it is Kates best, but it just feels so fresh and new at this point. Kate and Locke are probably the biggest question marks at this point in the main cast, so it makes sense to give her the first flashback. The island story is cool. The first few episodes all deal with the general problems that arise when you dont have any access to basic necessities, in this case medicine. It must be horrible for Jack to not be able to do anything to save the marshal and at the same time being in a constant risk to use up all the medicine they have, which already brings up interesting ethical questions. Sawyer can be an ass, but he is right when he talks to Jack and he does have the best intentions when he shoots the marshal. Still, try aiming at his head the next time, dude! Great scene, the marshal not dying from the gunshot and Jack then being forced to mercy kill him is a good end to the story line.

Oh yes, Walkabout is really freaking fantastic. Both heartbreaking and happy at the same time, and it ups the mystery quite a bit.

The concept of this being a supernatural island would be more gradually build up if we didn't get Locke's episode before.. There's been weird stuff happening since the first episode, but still had the possibly to be explained. Our earth has many large creatures.

But Jack's episode was still questioning the supernatural elements; is that a ghost? Or a hallucination. But before it, it was already confirmed. Iunno, it also strengthens the possibilities of both. Iunno. Dammit.

I still feel Jack's episode was more of a step down from Locke's.

Long as you pay attention, the show treats you well. All reasonable questions are answered, and all characters have their stories resolved.

If you only sort of watch it, or just tune in for the last episode, then yeah the ending is a bust.

But the ending is great. So don't let that worry you along the way.

See, if I remember my thoughts correctly, I didn't immediately jump to magical island for Locke being able to walk again. I though mabye it was something that happened during the crash, a scientific miracle as opposed to a magical one. Then again I was 12 when this show started and my knowledge was of things was lacking.

Still laugh with the reveal that Locke works in a cubicle when he's set up to look this major military figure. Great episode like everyone's said. I like White Rabbit too because Jack sort of comes to terms with his role of leader.

Ah, good to hear. That'd explain my friend's reaction when he first saw the finale years ago. He never really talked about the show much, but told me the ending sucked, so ya, he was in the category of semi-casual watcher.

So, what did you think of the first episode?

Didn't get around to it =/ I started up the netflix and went to put something in my room, and when I came back, my roomie was using the netflix to watch a different show. I was annoyed, but didn't bother objecting because I knew they would pull the "I worked hard all day and blaaah" crap as usual. Bleh.

Friday is about as soon as I can get around to it.

House of the Rising Sun

I wasn't expecting Sun or Jin to be put in the spot light so early. Seriously, I was expecting them to be last, or even after Hurley… who apparently is far from getting a spotlight episode. But I'm kinda glad it was early. During the first few episodes I thought Jin and Sue were father and daughter, til they vocally stated otherwise. His dominant attitude towards her reminded me more of a overprotective father, but from what it looks like Jin might've turn into her father. The flower was a great touch, and brings a much needed human element with Jin.

I know its on purpose, but I really hate how Jin cannot be understood. He makes him less of a character and more of a plot device at times. Doesn't help that he does the same "I don't like anyone, don't talk to anyone; its just you and me" song.

The Moth
Locke continues to be mysterious and interesting, I love em, but I'm glad he was missing from the next episode. I can only take cryptic rain-man-ness for so much. Though I do love that out of everyone he is the most in tune with the island.

One thing I did like about this episode is Charlie's brother saying, "No one know's who the basses is!" not only does it play off Locke knowing Charlie as the bass, but also plays off parts in the pilot. You know, Charlie hoping people recognize him. "Yea.. I'm Charlie.. hello?"

So is ever revealed who was behind hitting Sayid? My money is either Locke (who knew way to much about the situation, and doesn't want to leave the island) or an islander (which I shouldn't know about the Others, but I accidently came across the term. I know its other people on the island, and that's it.)

Confidence Man

This one is probably my favorite of this set. Mostly because of Sawyer. While the back-story for Sun is very compelling, Sawyer is a much more interesting character for personality alone, plus all the layers behind his guilt just makes him fun to watch. He does stupid shit, and of course at the end of episode we learn why. Its just so rich with character.

I really liked the Charlie and Clair peanut butter side plot.

Side Thoughts:

I really enjoy Hurley, and it might be that he only pops in to give a small commentary. I feel like he's the audience. He's unprepared for something like this, and he doesn't really know what to do. Very much like if we as viewers happen in the same situation. Plus, I'm fat. Go fats!

The last flashback scene in Walkabout is so, so good. Not just because of the reveal, its so emotional and you feel so sorry for Locke….and then we see him stand up for the first time on the Island and....damn! Terry O´Quinn is such a great actor. I mean, all of them are....maybe I should give out gold stars for great acting each episode if its warranted. It is definately in this one. White Rabbit is good, too. The scenes with Jacks dad are so creepy. I especially like the one where we just hear some ice shaking in his glass in the background. Both the scene between Jack and Locke and Jacks speech later on are big cornerstones of the show imho.

Yep, it is.

Commenting on Confidence Man, it`s also a great episode because it feels a little like a small climax of the first few episodes, where alot of tension against Sawyer was build up and he kinda had the role of the villain so far.The torture scene is great, showing us darker sides of both Sayid and Jack.

The Moth and House of the Rising Sun are the first two episodes that I have a few small problems with. The flashback in House of the Rising Sun is good, but the conflict over moving to the caves feels a bit forced to create some tension between the characters (that never quite comes to anything, I might add) and the ending montage is a little too cheesy imho. In the Moth, I really like the flashback. The last scene with his brother is great, when Charlie say "You never took care of me!" you feel like "Yeah, finally he told him off" but at the same time you pity Charlie because this was his big chance to get help and to avoid the Island. On the island part, I love Sayids master plan on triangulating the signal and the whole Charlie/Locke dynamic. But the cave in, again, forced drama. "Oh no, Jack might die in this random cave in, making his flashback episode where he becomes the leader two episodes ago cpmpletely pointless! Only Charlie can save him now!" This just feels too much like plot a stereotypical "Crashed on an island" show would have used, so I think it`s just a bit too unoriginal for Lost.

Jack was originally supposed to die in the pilot, with Kate then taking over as surprise lead, for whatever that's worht..

And even though he has "main character immunity" at the start, the show does take steps to remove that safety net later.

This is my favorite of the bunch, simply because Charlie is my favorite character on the show hands down, so any episode with him in the spotlight is always great.

Also, Dominic Monaghan is a fantastic actor and I love the emotion he brings to Charlie.

The "Sawyer" reveal is really great, as the original just plays into the audience's expectations of him so well, yet when we learn the truth it's all "oh! That makes perfect sense!" Another really good episode.

I really liked the Charlie and Clair peanut butter side plot.

Honestly, my favorite part of the episode is Charlie and the imaginary peanut butter. It always puts a big ol' grin on my face.

! Wow…I just realized that. You're entirely right. I can't believe I didn't make the connection between that scene and...well everything. But it's really kind of obvious now that you pointed it out.

Other fun casting what-ifs.

Sun originally auditioned for the role of Kate. Then they found out she was bilingual and already an established big star… and basically created the role for her... and then had to go cast her a husband.

Sawyer wasn't really himself until he was cast, and originally the actor tried to hide his accent... until they told him on set"No, that was was the old character, before we hired you. Let the accent flow!"

Hurley auditioned to be Sawyer.

...Yeah. Stew on THAT possibility for a bit.
