Episode of Nami: Kōkaishi no Namida to Nakama no Kizuna to have all-new animation

Toei Animation announced on Monday that an all-new television anime special, One Piece Episode of Nami: Kōkaishi no Namida to Nakama no Kizuna (One Piece Episode of Nami: Tears of a Navigator and the Bonds of Friends), will air on Saturday, August 25 at 9:00 p.m. (The One Piece television anime series normally airs on Sunday mornings.)

The story segment about Nami's home village, which figures heavily in the One Piece television anime's ongoing Fishman Island arc, is recreated with all-new animation. Nami steals the Merry Go (Going Merry) pirate ship from Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of her shipmates and seemingly abandons them. Luffy and the others give chase and eventually track Nami to Cocoyasi Village (Coco Village).

Hirohiko Uesaka, the head writer of the television anime, is credited with the special's script, while the television anime's animation director Yukiko Nakatani designed the characters on the special.

This looks like it could be good. The Arlong arc didn't have many pacing issues, but the redone animation looks great.

I do hope we get one of these for Marineford within the next few years, because it definitely needs this treatment.

This is definitely a continuation of the other remake movies. Even the title retains the "Episode of" part. I'm guessing it'll be more like movie 8, as in the story stays the same, but current knowledge will add things like flashbacks and other tidbits to it to it, but hopefully better.

Toei should spend their money in the One Piece Special Edition. That's what deserve better art, better animation, better pace, and more faithfulness.
Damn, they should even do their reanimated version by season of 12 or 24 episodes according to the arc with breaks of 3 or 6 months between.
I imagine a season of 24 episode for the recruitement part in East Blue, and a 12 episode season for Arlong arc.

Damn, they should better put their money in the current 'garbage' anime.

So basically reanimated Arlong Park arc condensed into 2 hours. That's pretty awesome and it shouldn't end up like the Alabasta movie because AP is a lot shorter arc, like Drum.

So this is why Nakatani hasn't been on the regular show for several months. Her art looks really good as always, and the Arlong arc can easily fit into two hours without any major pacing hiccups. This seems like a good way to introduce newer viewers to thirteen year old material while giving older fans a treat as well. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I don't know about this. I honestly thought that the TV version of this arc was done perfectly. And the episode of Alabasta movie just screamed "cram-as-many-important-details-in-2-hours-and-hope-the-audience-likes-it."

If this is the route that Toei is going for, then it's a matter of time before we start seeing further remakes including Skypiea, Baratie and Syrup Island.

yea, but alabasta is almost 2.5 times longer AND there is more content in each chapter during alabsta. I think they could do one special for baratie arc, one for Kuro arc, one for alvida+morgan+buggy, and one for luffy flashback + lougue town. I would love that so much, whole east blue reanimated.

This should be great! Hopefully there is some sweet scenes but I hope no-one complains as the original arc didn't exactly have such good quality animation.

I missed out on a lot of episodes during the original arc, I'm really looking forward to this! It's a great time to air as the anime slowly catching up with the Manga taking weeks off occasionally. Also it coincides well with the characters in the Fishman arc, even though the arc is really boring me out!

I was half-expecting this to actually be part of the TV series episode schedule much like that "Summer Resort Island" 2-parter that included the Foxy pirates. Glad to see they are putting their efforts into, and so far no sign of Franky, Brook, Chopper, or Robin showing up for no reason.

Yes! The Arlong arc is, and still is, one of my favorite arcs from One Piece. Good, emotional scenes, nice fights-

Anyway I am very excited for this. Very interested in their choices of music. Will it be oldschool or will they mix in Strong World, etc.? I'd be fine either way. I'd prefer remixes of the old like some have said.

I'm not worrying too much by comparing this to Movie 8 because that tried to tackle a larger, more intricate arc, as well as being confined to 90 minutes. The pacing shouldn't be an issue on this one.

it's easy to do. for example, Drum's Arc of the same lenght in the anime and got a 2 hour movie adaption
