The first Taken was a solid, thrilling, edge of your seat kinda movie. It had some good characterization, a tightly written story and an edgy tone which I could appreciate. It never tried to make some sort of political message. It was just a loving father trying to get back his daughter. Simple and to the point. But that only works once.
Once you get into sequels, your suspension of disbelief will be stretched extraneously. Once you can go "Well shit happens". Twice is "oh fuck if this could happen again."
Also you need to do something new or it would just be a carbon copy of the first movie.
With that said, given the plot summary it seems they are doing something new and the new bad guy is someone who only came after Liam Neeson's family as a consequence of his actions in the first movie. Okay, fair enough. We might have another solid movie here. But I hope they don't try to ramp up the action as sequels tend to do. The first one worked really well because everything done looked realistic or at least doable for a super trained secret agent. If they try to do mission impossible type of action, they'll shatter that realistic tone and the movie will already be inferior to the first one.
tl;dr I'm cautiously optomistic.
