I always thought that Hannibal was a great black comedy, so color me surprised when most call it one of the bad films of the series.
Its so damn silly, but it plays it with such a dead serious face you can't help but laugh.
Films that you like and others do not!!

The Day After Tomorrow was a movie I liked but most everyone else I knew didn't

Suckerpunch.
I just do.
I can love sucker punch, if we'd all agree it's just a collection of hyperstylised unconnected short movies, that have no point other then to show of slick moves of schoolgirls vs. samurais. I refuse to accept the reality that there is in fact a groan inducing framestory gluing everything together.
-God Bless America, recent movie. Its entire premise is about shooting stupid people. The main character is self-righteous and absolutely terrible, but his cohort more than makes up for it. It does shove a lot of stuff down your throat ("If you don't like ThiIiIiIiIs, then you need to be shot!") and ends up being a bit (lot) dictatorial in its views, but did you not hear me why are you still reading this, it is a movie about shooting stupid people. Shooting babies, people who take up two parking spots, prima donnas who get a TV show about yelling at her mom for getting the wrong car…
I just watched the movie recently and I am serious: Get this film out of here! What's NOT to love about it? This tapped into the domain of humour so black, you have to choke on your laughs. And I can dig it.
Also gotta jump on the Space Jam bandwagon here. Some of my personal guilty pleasures must be Starship Troopers and Demolition Man.
-
The Pest.
Pretty much everyone I know hates it. From beginning to end, it's so stupid and I can see exactly why this is seen as an awful movie but for some reason I never get sick of watching it. -
Cats Don't Dance was an all time favorite for me. Saw it once back on Cartoon Network. Loved it to death.
You are my best friend. It's my favorite animated movie.

When the vampire starst farting. Mother of god.
This is beyond "The Room" tier. -
Yeah The Pest is so bad; still dunno why I like it.

-
Masters of the Universe. Could watch that endlessly due to Langella's magnificently hammy role as skeletor. He just nails it.
I guess The Shadow and The Phantom as well, fun radio/comic book films that people look at me funny when I say I enjoy them.
-

People hated Starship Troopers?
But it has everything!
Aliens, space missions, physic powers, cheesy dialogue, and good ole human patriotism that makes no sense even as satire.
It was like Mars Attacks for its time.Wait.
People hated Mars Attacks too?
D: -

Demolition Man? Never met anyone who didn't love that film. Especiallly…the Three Seashells.

Anything with Stallone in it is unhateable

I like pretty much all of the One Piece movies. that's right. Save eight, eight sucked.
-
Starship Troopers is the movie my dad ended up desensitizing me with.
I'll never let him live it down.
-
@Nex:
Even "Party at Kitty and Stud's?"
I thought it was called the italian stallion.
But while i haven't seen it i'm sure he brings a certain authenticity to the role

That's what they re-released it as after Rocky became a huge hit.
And, as I have never seen it myself, I can neither confirm nor deny that.
-
We can all probably agree that if we had to watch a male celebrities porno it'd be Stallone's.
Or maybe Jackie Chan's. That one might be even more surreal
-
I fucking loved Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. I can't believe I haven't mentioned that. I really need to rewatch that on Netflix.
-
Kung Fu Hustle! Only me, and very few of my friends, enjoy it. Some of my other friends, and…my parents, think I'm awkward because I like it.
-
Oh what the hell, sign me up for some Space Jam support as well; and last action hero as usual.
Though everyone claims 2 was the last good one, I have a warm place in my heart for all the Lethal Weapon movies, especially 4. I don't care what people say, the final fight against Li alone sells it for me.
Also, they're not exactly disliked, but whereas the first two Harry Potter movies are everyone elses least favourite, I prefer them immensely over the later entries. Well, 3-6 at least.
-
@The:
[Harrpy Potter 1 and 2 > 3-6]
I thought that was the general consensus… :O

Kung Fu Hustle is a freaking masterpiece of entertainment. The comedy is funny, the actors are great, the fights are incredible, the effects are a bit dated but still cool and the production is top notch.
As incredible as Shaolin Soccer was (and it was REALLY incredible), for me Kung Fu Hustle is an improvement in almost all areas.
A shame Stephen Chow has, like, vanished from the spotlight. He had the charisma, talent, comedic timing and taste to be one of the best ever.
And I too liked Lethal Weapon 4. Maybe it's because I was a huge Jet Li fan, but the movie itself is funny even without him (although he definitely steals the show in every appearance he makes).
-
Even lethal weapon 3, which was by far the worst one of the all, wasn't really that bad.
-
1. Do you care about what film critics have to say about films before you watch them?
Yes, but only when i dont know what to see.
2. Are there any movies that you love that are hated by critics and bloggers and such?I dont think that are hated, but i think thar are underrated, for example: "in the pursuit of happines", i think that movie its great and i dont care if a critic says its bad.

I could watch this movie everyday and it will always make me laugh my ass off.

The only Harry Potter films I had issue with were The Half-Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows pt. 1. Other than that, I pretty much liked them all.
-
Uhhh I'm actually not finding The Pest that bad lol. The opening sequence is pretty bitchin', to be honest. I mean yeah he's annoying but I like his expressions and at the end of the day I'm going to remember that. I would have never thought to film a shower scene like that from that angle. It's unintentionally hilarious in some ways, you can definitely tell some of the actors are forcing stuff or aren't trying (for example, the scene where he meets up with his, uh, girlfriend?). And I'm not paying attention to the plot at all I'm just waiting to see what Leguizamo is going to do next.
And sorry Tigerlilly, trust me I agree with you, and now that I'm looking back on the movie some of the stuff I saw as potential flaws really aren't that bad. It's got some really freakin' memorable scenes and locations, too. I was deciding to watch The Grey or that with my dad and we ended watching GBA, and our laughs were piercing the Heavens. It's just across all other forums I've been to you'll have like 3 people hating it for every 1 calling it a masterpiece, so I'd say it fits the criteria of this thread. But yeah I don't let the Internet's opinions or especially da criticz shape my opinion.

Those are still my favourites. Along with 4, but 1 and 2 is still better in my book.

Really? Every time I see a discussion/text on the matter, it's always along the lines of "the first two were decent, but held back by being childrens movies scoff scoff, they only got really good when it became darker in three yup yup"
Good to see others who agree.Oh, Return of Jafar. I just can't hate it.

Good to see others who agree.I absolutely loved the first two Harry Potter movies… back when I was nine. They haven't really held up that well though. I suppose one could give them credit for being by far the most comprehensible ones of the lot, but... well duh, they were based off the shortest books, and if memory serves me right they were also the longest movies unless one counts both halves of Deathly Hallows as one film. Now, don't get me wrong, I do not think that the first two films are bad (or any of the others, for that matter… Except Order of the Phoenix. That was just a rushed mess), but they're kind of, how to put it... dry? Like, they got the plot okay save for a few minor leaps of logic ("Oh look the magically changing stairs just brought us to the forbidden corridor. HEY, WHY DON'T WE ENTER IT?! OH EM GEE IT'S FILCH'S CAT WE ARE DOOM'D!!!!" Also "Hey look, Hagrid has a dragon! Oh, now he doesn't anymore. Well, that dragon sure contributed a lot to the story didn't it?"), but the later movies did a far better job at conveying the atmosphere of this magical world, even if there were also a lot more plot-holes in those, and said plot-holes were a lot more glaring.
Anyway, back on topic…
Well, I guess X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine could count? Granted, I've only watched them once, but I seem to recall liking them okay. -

Prisoner of Azkaban felt odd because it was less colorful, but it made me realize how childish the others were, and as I'm 20 now, hasnt held up as good. Still awesome though, but you know. Could you ever imagine the colorful Dumbledore from the two first films fighting Voldemert in Part 5?
Cant say I loved that Yates completely removed the sun from his versipn, but the last one looked darn goos and felt realistic, but also didnt take it too far.

Thats pretty much why I like them the best. The story is simple, and even with the shortcuts you mention that the movie takes, it covers everything pretty well. Everything post II, despite being shorter movies based on longer movies, up-prioritized action at the cost of plot. My non-HP savvy parents had absolutely no fucking idea what was going on with the Marauders, the Stag, their relation to Snape etc in the third movie, and time that could've been spent explaining it was spent on extending the whomping willow scene, friggin jamaican shrunken heads, and the like. The 4th movie needed to squeeze in more time for Harry to fight the Dragon and stuff like that, so it didn't have time to make Krum/fleur/cedric actual characters, etc.
And for the record, Serious! mirthless Dumbledore of movies 3 onwards is a far cry from the Dumbledore I know. He's supposed to be jovial and eccentric, but this Dumbledore grabs Harry by the collar and slams him into the wall as he accuses him of fraud. I'll take the dead guy thank you
-
Snakes on a Plane, it might be kind of a cult film now but I loved it before it was cool

yeah Kung Fu Hustle was fantastic, what kind of awful people wouldn't like that.

Men in Black II
Yeah, it's an inferior retread and shits on a lot of good stuff from the first, but I thought it had some pretty good laughs and works well as a sci-fi action movie.
-
Movie that I just watched and I love. The Happening. I don't care what people say. That movie was genius. I never laughed so hard. What a brilliant comedy.

Super Mario Bros. :ninja:

The Amazing Spider-Man :ninja: lol no I guess most should actually like it. I think it's genius.

So much of them… Actually, I'd said that at least 1/4 to 1/3 of my HUGE movie collection (by huge, I mean that the last time I counted them, there was around 300 and I've bought a good amount since then...) have less than 60% on "rotten tomatoes" and I still like every one of them. Amongst the worse ones are
-Mario Bros the movie
-the 2 Schumacher's Batman (I dunno why people don't like them... While it's true that they don't fit with Burton's more serious approach also used in TAS, they fit very well with the more campy interpretations like the old show with Adam West and the newest "Batman The Brave and the Bold" animated serie...)
-the 2 Mortal Kombat
-Ferngully
-Most of Disney's sequels (like Lion King 2 and 1 1/2, Return of Jafar, Mulan 2, Cinderella 2 and 3, ect)
-Grease 2
-Mystery Men
-Any X-Men movie that people don't like
-Twillight saga (Actually... I like them because it makes me laugh... and because the Volturis are "One-scene wonders" to me...)
-League of extraordinary gentlemen
-Scream 4 (Actually, it's my fav of the serie, I have no idea why...)I could write many others as well, but I think that's enough...
-

Oh man I saw this in theaters when it came out. I was dying. Even thinking about some of the shit that happened in that movie is causing uncontrollable laughter right now.
One of my favorite scenes, and it didn't even involve dying.
-
-Scream 4 (Actually, it's my fav of the serie, I have no idea why…)
I love it– it's my second favorite after the first.
The reason reviews weren't that positive was because it was essentially the same thing that the series had already done twice (3 wasn't a Scream film.) While I really did like it, it really didn't do anything new. But it did it all better than 2 (which was rather dull in too many parts) and 3. -
Anyone who says 'A Serbian film' needs to get punched in the sack a thousand times untill they die.
