Films that you like and others do not!!

We all have these movies that we like and are hated by a lot of people.
Yesterday i was doing a bit of research on some of my favorite films and was surprised by the amount of hate that they have.
Mainly Bad Boys 2, which is one of my favorite films of all time.
It has god-aweful reviews and nobody seems to like it.

So my questions to you are…

1. Do you care about what film critics have to say about films before you watch them?
2. Are there any movies that you love that are hated by critics and bloggers and such?

#1) I rarely read anything by individual critics nowadays and usually go by stuff like Rotten Tomatoes and the meta-ratings, honestly I have even the slightest interest I'll be seeing the movie regardless and then draw my own conclusions and talk about those conclusions for those who are interested.

#2) The most recent one I can think of that fits the bill is Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides.

Oh yeah, and Cars 2.

I loved Speed Racer, though I admit the movie had it's flaws. They also should've changed the names of the characters so the movie wouldn't have felt so retarded.

Also... I could've done without the sprittle interludes too.

I rarely pay attention to critics until after I see a movie, and can decide for myself.

I do take into account what critics and reviews say but if a movie looks amazing I'll still watch it even if it has mediocre or bad reviews.

Like said above, I also liked PotC On Stranger Tides. 2001 A Space Odyssey is my favorite scifi movie, and I know that it has good critic reviews, but there are so many people that say it's so boring and stupid still. This is actually more difficult than I thought it would be.

1. I used to really take Ebert's opinions into account before seeing a movie, but lately I've been finding that I value his opinions less and less. At any rate, if it's a movie I'm not totally sure if I want to see, I'll wait to see what the general consensus is. Most recently, I had some interest in seeing Snow White and the Huntsman and Rock of Ages, but after both of them received fairly bad reviews I figured it'd be best not to waste my money and just wait for the DVD.

Oh yes, Star Wars Episode III has a special place in my heart.

Despite being so badly written, it was a joy watching Anakin go completely crazy and then have the most embarrasing defeat of all time.

Boat That Rocked (renamed Pirate Radio in America) was generally poorly received. But it's easily one of my fave films ever. I enjoyed Johnny English and Reborn enough too.

I like the Hellboy movies more than they are good. They are decent movies anyway but I love them. Objectively they are like a 6.5-7 but to me they feel more like an 8-8.5

And Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is one of my favorite movies and sparked my love of Douglas Adams but the film was never well received.

If we're talking the difference between average reaction and my reaction, probably Fantasia 2000. It's not that people hated it–most are indifferent--but I love it much, much more than the original.

Well, since several of my suitemates and friends this last school year were Star Wars fans of the ''George Lucas has been raping my childhood every day since the 90s and twice on Sundays'' persuasion, I'm going to admit that I didn't really mind the prequel trilogy that much. Yes, the writing and dialogue was often wooden as all get out and the execution usually ranged from weak to outright bad, but I felt the overall plot arc was a solid one and I enjoyed the flashy action sequences and fantastical set pieces.

And without the prequel trilogy, we wouldn't have Ian McDiarmid hamming it up nonstop once Palpatine became the Emperor.

As for me, I quite enjoyed Cars 2. Definitely a lot more than the first.

I was also quite fond of Scream 4, and liked it more than 2 and 3. Mainly because Kirby was Randy reborn, and 2, while good, just dragged. A lot.

Lets see, what else. I enjoyed Transformers 1. Though not 2 and 3, so there's that.

I also am quite fond of Independence Day

Perhaps the biggest: Lady in the Water. It is by no means a good film, and it's not one I would buy, but I mildly enjoyed it.

And finally, Spiderman 3. Yeah I went there. The film was a mess, and it horribly misused Venom. But honestly, I didn't feel like it was any worse than the first 1.
And I thoroughly enjoy that dance sequence, thank you very much. Well, let me clarify: I enjoy how bad it is. It never fails to make me laugh.

And as a bonus: Cloverfield. I don't know that many people who like it, but I freaking love it. A lot.

Hmmm. Don't think I like anything that nobody likes. Just going by online/past critical reception and internet opinions I've come across. Just going off the top of my head here:

-Star Wars: Episode I (gorgeous on-location shooting was enough for me to forgive the many flaws. A big fan of the originals, but not enough to totally dismiss the entire 2nd trilogy)
-Last Action Hero (didn't deserve to tank in the B.O like it did)
-Titan A.E. (decent: Not a complete turkey)
-Hello Dolly! (Barbara Streisand was miscast, but then there's…...Walter Matthau!)
-Two for a Seesaw (Mitchum & MacLaine don't give the film the spark it needs for some reason, despite being offscreen lovers, but it's still a good screen adaptation of a doomed relationship)
-The Barbarian and the Geisha (unfairly maligned due to a uncharacteristic John Wayne role, being a flop, and having John Huston disown it at one time–much better than its reputation suggests)
-The Pirate (strangely maligned for being a flop, having a pretentious air to some, and not being a "real" pirate story, it is still very good entertainment)
-Satan Met a Lady (considered a flop, an insult to the novel "The Maltese Falcon," and disowned by leading actress Bette Davis as "the worst movie ever made". But Warren William stars as "Ted Shane." And he's hilarious--seemingly the only one treating the film as the spoof it it's suppose to be.
-MGM Buster Keatons (Completely disowned by Keaton, derided for the new "Elmer" persona, and blamed for the actors complete decline in both his professional and personal life. I found most to still be very funny comedies, though to a lesser degree to his earlier films. But Free and Easy? That never happened.

I think he's referring more to 12 Angry Men, The Matrix, and Forrest Gump.

As those are the 3 I always get hell for.

I just find 12 Angry Men to be boring.
The Matrix was okay, but it's way overrated. I really don't see any rewatch value in it.
Forrest Gump, though good I have grown to dislike for a number of reasons. 1) I have been forced to sit through this movie more times than any other. Every history teacher I ever had loved the hell out of this, and we'd always watch it at the end of the year. 2) I'm bitter that it won Best Picture even though it was only the 3rd best film nominated that year. Both Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction were far superior films. 3) I'm tired of the impressions. 4) This movie was pure Oscar Bait for Hanks. And I'm not a fan of Oscar Bait, as it makes the performance feel forced.

I expect some flack over others on both lists, bit those are the big 3.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas 2000 - It is a bad movie, but there are so many lines I quote and love that I hold nothing but love for this movie.

All of the Resident Evil movies except Extinction - Avid Resident Evil fan, but I find these to be guilty pleasures. Extinction was extremely boring save for Linden Ashby being awesome.

Silent Hill - I've never understood why every Silent Hill fan loathes this film.

Final Destination series - Stupid, but fun series. You go in understanding that this issue is never going to be solved, but instead, anticipate bizarre games of Mouse Trap to kill people.

Scary Movie series - …...I find these movies to funny. I'm so sorry everyone.

Hate ie because - the live action parts. Sorry, Bill Murray, but if you just watch the live action parts its basically him being disgusting .___.
ohyeah, really REALLY loved the part where it went to Live action AND animation with Thrax vs Ozzy… and the Matrix reference XD so much love.
Not even spoilering that. Ozzy is the main character. Thrax is the main villain. it's obvious they're gonna fight at some point.

I use to love alot of disaster movies as a kid, since those kind of things weren't very prominent in my old country(at most we get a hurricane once every million years or so). Tornado, Volcano, Dantes Peak, and a whole lot more. I still do like the movies, as long as it isn't overboard with spaceships or crazy hippies like 2012. The recent one I saw was The Day After Tomorrow. Saw it with a friend at the movies. We really enjoyed it.

I also like Independence Day. Well, I don't like the movie at all, but I like all the little things in inspired. Like SNK's Mars People from Metal Slug 2 and X. I mean, if it was not for the movie, I'd probably not enjoy blasting an iconic array of aliens on those games. Starship Troopers had some influence in designs too, but it's entirely minor. So I kind of respect ID for existing.

Was Wild Wild West hated? Because if so, I think that's a lie.

Super Mario Bros.: Seriously to this day, I don't care what the general opinion on it is or what they "didn't do right" (like I tell a lot of people this was in the early 90's. Stories weren't exactly a big thing in games back then. So there was no way this was gonna go live action without being cheesy.) Its a childhood favorite and I actully loved the whole alternate dimension thing. Hell, I'm a Daisy fan anyway. Dennis Hopper did a great job with the Bowser role as did Bob Hopkins for Mario and the FX were pretty good for for early CGI. If theres was one thing I frown at was the ending but otherwise, I love this movie, end of story.

Street Fighter: Since were still on video games, this is another gulity pleasure. The pure silliness alone is worth watching it, and hey at least this one managed to have all the SF charactesr play a role in the story (something animated version have trouble doing without regulating characters to cameos). I'll take Raul Julia anyday as M. Bision, thank you ^_^.

Van Helsing: Being a fan of monster movies, this one won me over on the trailer alone. I made sure I had enough to see this in theaters and needless to say I had a good time. Hugh Jackman was great as the monster hunter and especiallly love the guy who play Frankenstein's monster. Not to mention the set pieces and costumes, very nice. Not the best told story but its pure popcorn eatery and doesn't shoot for anything more then that. I can dig it.

Space Jam: Like many, I dug this just on premise alone. Jordan's not the best actor mind you but c'mon, a basketball and a cartoon legend playing b-ball against aliens. Kids ate it up like candy back then and it still a watchable film today too.

Looney Tunes Back In Action: How the hell did this bomb? This is pure grade Loony Tunes with a combination of Brenden Fraiser and yet next to no one saw it in theaters, c'mon. Well okay Martin Short was a bad choice for the villain but the movie should've did better then it should

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 92: Yeah laugh all you want, but it was this movie that got me to watch the TV show when it first premired cause thats where I remebered it from. Really this isn't as bad as some "hardcore fans" decry it as. Goofier then the later incarnation, sure, but still loads fun to watch just for the simple premise alone.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: I still don't get the hate over this film. I mean its vintage Indiana Jones but, oop, "Shia Laboef in it and there are aliens at the end, it sucks". Did no one even just enjoy it for the story over those trival details. So it no Raiders of the Lost Ark, big deal. Guess its true what they say, you can't go home again.

Wild Wild West: This is another fun movie that got shafted just becase "its not true to the original". I've seen some of the original and really its a period piece and slightly siller James Bond. This film is..well exactly that, just with a race lift for the hero. The only complaint I can give it is the way it jumps back and forth in the story (the opening for instance didn't have much structure) otherwise Will Smith and Kelvin Kline had some great chemistry and I loved the steampunk devices. It really an overall fun little trip.

I seem to like lots of these.

"Hitchhiker's" and "A Series of Unfortunate Events" both got me reading the original novels, yet neither got the sequel they deserved…

"Don't Mess with the Zohan" had me folded double in laughter and I couldn't believe it when I saw how much hatred it got.

"Saw V" is the most hated piece within the "Saw" series. Far from it for me.

Josie and the Pussycats. Alot of people seemed to missed the irony of the movie being about characters not wanting to sell out, but the movie is drenched in product placement.

Moulin Rouge. People don't like this!? People must hate fun.

Matrix 2 & 3. Were just fine to me. People say "it's stupid" but never really properly say why. Hive-mind hate.

Transformers trilogy. Micheal Bay blah blah yakety shmakkety blah.

You know, considering Jordan's not a professional actor, he was really quite tolerable and harmless in that movie (not like friggin' Shaquille O'Neil). I think that's because the writers/director made the very wise decision to present him as a normal guy and make him the straight man to the Looney Tunes' antics.

Umm, that was Steve Martin.

Well, I actually was one of the few who did see this in theaters and I really liked it when I first saw it. Then I saw a bit of it again on TV a few months ago, and….I dunno, I don't think it held up very well for me. Maybe I'll give it one more chance and watch it from beginning to end at some point.

Because it effs up the story line of the first game so badly. And Nathan Fillion's character was pointless.

And because Pyramid Head should not have been in the movie. The creators fo the film threw him in as I candy I guess, but based on the Silent Hill universe created by Team Silent, Pyramid Head only ever existed during the events of Silent Hill 2, and there's a reason for that, as those who have played the game will know.

It would have been better had they just made it their own thing instead of them "Adapting" the first game into a movie.

It was good on one watch, but after that all it becomes, for me, is a lesson on how to write dialogue. I've had to watch this film so many time for classes, that it's lost any sort of redeeming qualities as a film.

I am also not too fond of Citizen Kane, and I hardly find it to be the movie ever.
It's definitely a solid and good film, and I do slightly enjoy it, but it's another one of those "Welcome to film school, watch this movie a thousand times. It created modern film. It's the best thing ever made. Love it. Love it or die" type films.

If this one is disliked, then add it to my list as well. I came in expecting a boring super hero action movie and was completely overwhelmed by the very thought-worthy plot and deep characters. Now that I've read the comic as well, of course I can see why fans of the original think of it as a slight step-down in amount of included material, but I personally liked the ending of the movie better (Bomb vs. weird squid?). O.O

I think Donnie Darko was really well received. I love that movie as well. Actually, this list is for me too, I liked Watchmen and the original Clash of the Titans. CotT was part of my childhood and I still watch it every now and then.

Little Nicky is the only Adam Sandler movie I enjoy.

Matrix 2 was still entertaining and had some great action sequences. However, the pseudo philosophy was so bs. Revolution was boring as hell, its just machines vs humans for an hour. Neo vs Smith was too over the top with terrible philosophy.

I actually enjoy Batman forever, I like Kilmer's batman more than Bale (god the voice).
I love Batman and Robin because its so bad that it becomes good for the lols. I certainly enjoy to lol at smugish clooney.
