"Ring ring ring. Hello fellow Toei employees! I got an excellent idea with what to do with episode 564. You know all those flashbacks of Otohime we've already played 10 times previously? Let's play them again and use them to stretch an episode into 25ish minutes! But this time.. we'll have Fukaboshi crying and going over the entire plot again OVER the flashbacks! Brilliant. We'll just toss in something mildly exciting that people will care about towards the last two minutes.
Now let's go back to huffing cold dog vomit and industrial horse glue out of this shopping bag."
Not only were they in the manga as mentioned, but you people need to remember this is a show airing on TV. All episodes have to appeal to anyone not familiar with what is happening or who may be behind or missed some episodes. I'm not saying the flashbacks don't get bad at some episodes, but they were done just fine in this episode. There is such a thing as symbolism and the flashbacks both in the manga and the anime were timed just right with present events so the message Oda wanted to deliver is sent clear. I had no issues with it at all and I quite enjoyed how it was done.
Yes, I thought this episode was great. Honestly, I guess I was just ready to get to the end of the arc at this point in the manga, but upon my second viewing of the story at the end here, I quite enjoy Hody and his crew for the simple fact they represent what is so true in our world. Blind racism happens every single day. You'll see it everywhere in any town or city, in any race or ethnicity. It's just a part of life that will never be truly eliminated. I had forgotten most of the flashback was in the manga until I started to recognize the scenes. I really enjoyed what they did with Arlong here to really drive the point home. There are some things, as Oda said once, that only animation can convey and they hit the nail on the head with this.
The end of the episode has me pumped for the finishers next week. The end of all these battles was where I really got my interest back up again in this arc and I especially can't wait to see Franky, Brook, and Luffy's finishing moves.
Zoro: "You can't even kill my boredom!"
I forgot about this line! Oh god, that had me on the floor rolling practically! And he says it with such a straight face!
